I found a slim PS2 in a thrift store a little over two years ago. I replaced the power cable (the original cable had a huge clump of electrical tape over the middle of it; it doesn't take a genius to guess why that was there), bought HD Retrovision component cables, and used my PS1's Dualshock controllers until I could track down a Dualshock 2. I also used your old cleaning video to clean the PS2's fan.
Finally...the cleaning restoration of this ps2 slim I was waiting for. Yeah I knew it was simple, just wanted to see a pro like u to fulfill my comfort of doing it myself. Thanks for this. Saved in my favorites list.
I have the model 3 since mid 2020 and I bought it at a very good price and the funny part is that the console was never used. I had my first PlayStation 2 back in 2006 and was the Slim model 2.
And now the PS2 Cleaning trilogy is COMPLETE! Always great to see this 6th gen workhorse get some love. Now where's my Adam K. Console Cleaning BINGO Card™?
I also got a slim at VV for the exact same price. No 50% off though. It didn't have anything with it so I tucked it in a closet. Then every time I went to VV I would look for ps2 stuff. Eventually I found a controller and a force feedback flight stick for pennies. Then the other day I finally found the AV cable. I neglected to look at the power supply thinking it was the fig 8 but was disappointed. So I ordered one on Amazon. Here's hoping it starts up. Even if it doesn't I won't be out to much cash. Thanks for the video.
So weird you posted a ps2 slim video , I picked up off Craigslist yesterday a silver PS2 slim with the power wire (77001 ) and matching dual shock silver controller for $60. The user didn’t have the video wire but put a game disk in the console and let me hear it spin. I brought it home and looked at the laser and overall shape of the console because it looks practically brand new and asked the owner how often was it used. He said his daughter just started college now but it was hers from years ago to play guitar hero and lizzy McGuire maybe 2 dozen times at most and then put away. I put in street fighter alpha anthology and like the end of the video that instantaneous boot into the game. I feel like I scored basically a brand new ps2 slim
I was biking home from work and saw a box with av cords and a ps2 controller wire hanging out, opened box had a ps2 slim w/ all hook ups . Cleaned it up ,but ribbon would scratch game/DVD. Easy fix with some tape
Another awesome video as per usual, Adam! 😁👍👍 As always, I appreciate you for taking the time to take the time to create these guides. 🙂👌 Having recently picked up a satin silver coloured version of this console I’ll definitely be returning to it as a point of reference when it comes time to perform some maintenance. 😄🔧🎮 Cheers to you, my man! 🥃🥃
Hell yeah, love a good restoration vid. I do have a poor slim who's disc drive is unfortunately just cooked. It wont read either type of disc at all. Fortunately though thanks to network booting it still lives!
I’ve been wanting to get that slim again. I have an original fat one, and the other slim with the built in power supply, but a silver one. The silver one does a weird thing where you put a disc in and makes a weird noise then acts like you don’t have a disc in, and then after like 20 seconds of this weird grinding or clicking noise, the disc will pop on the screen, and then the game will run fine as if nothing happened and the noise will stop.
I have one of those ps2 slims, it overheats in an hour, however I found that by putting a fan directly behind making sure the air hits the rear vents the ps2 will last longer without overheating
Why did I read the title as Cleaving and restoring a PS2 Slim? The era where the number of ridges told you how old and epic your console was. In any case, I got the slim white boy.
Great video Adam! Always enjoy watching your videos! I love the PS2! I own both models (fat, and slim). I prefer the Slim model, but you can't go wrong with either model. I happen to own the PS2 Slim in: black, silver, and white. The silver, and black ones work perfectly. Sadly the white one doesn't read any game discs. I still kept it tho because of how cool it looks in that color! Hopefully one day I can have someone professionally fix it for me.
I got a silver slim ps2 a few weeks ago, was cheapish but in terrible condition, scratches all over the case, warranty sticker missing. At least it works!
I still own my silver slim ps2 that works still. I have opened it up to do the swap trick to install free mcboot on it and it works great right now though. I really want to get my hands on a fat ps2.
I didn't want to ruin my warranty sticker so I just vacuumed the intakes I did use fine to finish polish on the strip and armor all Matte protectant wipes to rejuvenate the plastic
Unless I’m mistaken I think the reason it booted so quickly into a PS2 game is because there isn’t a memory card in the console. The cubes in the PS2’s boot sequence represents data stored on the memory card so the more saves the longer that screen takes.
@@quickman1047 unless I’m mistaken both the slim and fat do the bricks sequence for the game saves and if it’s slow to boot certain games then the laser is going out either on the cd, dvd or both potentiometers.
I didn't get a glimpse at the model number, but 9if it's a 700XX series model, than it may be a bit special: They're the only Slim PS2's with the PS1 CPU on board, where later Slims used an emulated method.
I always liked the slim for the space savings it provides. But am too paranoid to use one again ever since the laser's ribbon cable adhesive came loose on my old one and scratched up a disc.

I can install mechapwn on this one. Great vid it will come handy.
BTW Adam, there is a way to repair the gloss area. Now you need to make another update to the restoration video HAHA!!! And you have to make sure the ribbon cable does not scratches the discs
