    God bless you, Randy, for building affordable houses for the working poor, disabled, seniors, young adults, homeless, foster care
    Adults aged out at 18 years of age and so many more. Hopefully, more people will follow your lead. And make more quality affordable homes for EVERYONE, not just the upper middle class and the rich.

      ITH has a wide price range of models. It sounds like the Incred-i-Box models meet a different need than yours. Their "stick-built" models look just like full-sized homes only scaled down. Sincerely, I hope you find what you are looking for, and that when you find it, you can afford it! That really is the hard part.

      @MGA @Swan @SmartBlackConservative I'm thinking Swan appreciates the support of your response. Two things about me: 1. I'm not big on organized religion, so I'm not sure where that response is coming from, only that it has nothing to do with me or anything I said. 2. It also rules out Randy or Amanda as my pastor and following what someone says in blind faith as in "believing [their] every word" or "unyieldingly in agreement." Also, NO ONE has a moral imperative to call someone's current or future home a "trash-a-box." That's an insult which is not a substitution for a logical argument and is not related to "literally sharing information." It's an insult that demeans the product and, by association, the buyer. Public forums do not condone the use of insults, even in consumer reviews.
      The original panels, which are held together by an unimaginable number of screws, are a bit of a patchwork quilt before being finished. That's what was in the video. The iBoxes are promoted as decorate-it-yourself projects. ITH builds the structure, puts some necessities inside, and the rest is up to the buyer. That includes the outside finish, which can be painted or stuccoed, so the patchwork nature of refridgerator door panels doesn't even show. Some people can't afford the extra cost of having ITH finish the home for them or have their own ideas of how they want it done. There's also the option of version 2.0 panels, which don't need screws to hold them together and don't have the patchwork effect. However, some folks can't afford the exra cost of those panels.
      But if, as you say, you were ready to buy, you know all this. So, all I hear in these two responses are people whose expectations did not match what ITH has to offer and who feel wronged by that or how they feel they've been treated. It happens. How people respond to disappointment says a lot about them, and insulting the company's product says more about the person than it does about the product.
      Not that it matters, but I am genuinely happy that other people have other choices that better suit them. No solution is or ever should be a one-size-fits-all

    Property tax? The county is wanting to charge tiny home owners property tax on their homes when they don't own the land??! Putting a tiny home on a foundation shouldn't make it subject to property tax unless the home owner owns the land. Renters don't pay property tax anywhere in the US that know of. This would be a first if Tennessee does that. Does Randy have all the permits & permissions from the state & county for his communities? If the county passes a property tax on tiny homes & wants them on foundations, are his communities exempt because they were already approved or will he have to put every home on a foundation? I would not buy a tiny home in a community and pay rent & property tax. That's crazy

    • @JayScott-yn7ch
      @JayScott-yn7ch Год назад +6

      Randy's ITH communities are zoned as mobile home parks, so the homes can't be put on foundations... they have to stay on wheels. According to Newport City Development Director Gary Carver, tiny homes are classified as a single-wide mobile home. He explained that tiny homes are classified as a single wide because of the number of axles.
      ITH Properties now pays the property taxes (and maintenance expenses) from our lot rent we pay ITH.

      @Jay Scott Randy said in the video that he can out some sort of skirting around the homes, and connect the trailer to it and this is the same as a foundation if this law passed. Sometimes I think Randy's my little brother.
    When I got married, the man was the "breadwinner" and as such he managed the money. Except mine didn't have a clue. I took it over and initially instituted the envelope system as something he could understand. I found it unworkable, so quickly changed it to two checking accounts. Every January I averaged everything from the preceding year (we charged everything, and I paid the bill in full every month, that amount was averaged along with utilities, mortgage, insurances, etc), divided it by the number of pay periods, and that amount went into the new account. He could spend what was in the original account, but the money was always there for everything. Simple, straightforward. It worked the entire time we were married. Money's just a tool, you have to learn how to use and control it. Pay yourself first. Live beneath your income. Know where your money's going. Think in terms of cost averaging.
    While I'm at it, MOST people live on a "fixed income", that's true for anyone who receives a paycheck.
    Everyone should live in "affordable housing", which means different things for different people at different times in their lives. From an investment point of view, the idea has traditionally been to buy the least expensive house in the most expensive neighborhood. Unless one wants to feel superior to everyone around them, the most expensive house might not be a good idea. Some of us want to be in a relatively homogeneous environment,
    I absolutely could live comfortably in a pair of boxes with a real kitchen in one with a living area and "powder room", and a real bedroom and a real bathroom in the other. Simple things, like really being able to change the bed so one isn't tempted to skip weeks and the ability to store things beneath it conveniently (I'm sorry, a bed up against the wall on three sides isn't practical), enough counter space to make bread or bake a pie, enough kitchen storage for a month's worth of emergency supplies. A full-size stacking washer & dryer. (I lived with those small ones for a while and ruined bedding in it.)

    You answered your own question, you're backed up to the Smokies...,. And I want to stop and start right here, I've been all over these wonderful United States Canada to Mexico Coast to Coast there is nothing in this world are on this little piece of dirt like East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. But you answered your own question. You're doing something that is common sense, and you're doing so many facets of it. Keep on keeping on You're a target now. Didn't want to bring this here, but these are good people and they're doing something worthwhile. Time to stand up, enjoy your life and this is a unique opportunity.

    I think Randy and Amanda should round up some of the merchants like the hardware store owner or manager, the gas station and grocery store managers, along with some of the happy residents there to all go show up and speak up at that meeting tomorrow night. I'll bet, with the number of pets living there that the pet stores have even noticed an uptick in sales. Praying that no naysayers in city government try to cause problems, but if they try, make sure that everyone joins together and gets the media to cover it. Preferably a big station from out of Knoxville if that's the biggest one serving that area. The residents that are really setting up their places nicely would be something great to show the cameras. Randy started something from what was once a barren piece of land that nobody wanted, and now it's a growing concern that's adding to the local economy. That should count for something.

    I like the ideas you came up with for a full house. The washer/dryer in the kitchen area half bath around the area. Full stove and dining room. In other part of room. Go through into a living room. Walk into the living room from the other home, the bed room in front of it. Maybe bathroom in between. If you put it in the back people would be walking through your bed room to go to the bathroom. Randy you are right about the envelope. What's left over, you bank. Also you are making rules to keep properties looking beautiful so it's not a low class development.
