    We seriously need to take a look in the mirror as an industry before just bending over and letting companies kill physical media. There are serious concerns about game ownership, preservation, and corporate consolidation of power that will only lead to more and more control and choice being ripped out of the players' hands. I love that Tim is one of the few exceptions, but in general a lot of games media doesn't seem to care, or even sing the praises of an all-digital future, possibly in part because they have the convenience of new games being sent to them digitally. But until the games industry gets louder about preserving physical media, it's only going to get worse for all of us until it's too late.

What does that mean? Haven't most of the titles under this company been multi-platform already? Now they're all gonna be exclusive to Xbox and PC with some exceptions like the CoD deal with PS and whatever they want to do with Nintendo.
    How is this reaching more players? This kind of consolidation isn't good for the consumer and competition in the long run I feel. Can someone explain this?

    • @jaynordiaz4609
      @jaynordiaz4609 Год назад +6

      Its just a nonsense argument that Microsoft used to push this through. They really mean putting Activision games on more platforms (basically the cloud services that no one uses), but not really the total userbase of those platforms. This deal actually locks out the two largest userbases in gaming (excluding mobile) so its not really making games available to more people.

    I hate to say this, but Tim is wrong. When criticizing activism for how they handled COD. Ultimately numbers don’t lie as a gamer. I might’ve wanted to see a lot of franchises under the Activision Van or but what made them the money? What made them the powerhouse. They are now it was advancing the way they did. It was focusing on the hit titles that did it just draw in gamers, but drew in, a crowd outside of the hard core. Every year COD is the best selling game that year unless you see a GTA or an elder scrolls title any other year COD kills it. Not only that they’re at the top of the list multiple times. Need to remind you gamers that other studios would kill for those numbers. They would kill for half of those numbers for 1/4 of those numbers for 1/8 of those numbers.
    One other note about Microsoft, is it having triple the number of studios S play station it’s not about the number of studios you have because the studio could technically have five people it’s about the number of people you have a radio. How many people do you have making video games for you Look at one of the most prolific studios out there the guy who makes fortnight that’s just one studio but it’s killing it making more money than several studios combined. How is that possible if it’s just one studio simple return on investment. That one studio is able to make a lot of money with the Contant get credit. That’s ultimately what you want a studio that produces a lot of money with the Contant it delivers.

While it's not every game, there's some that you don't need to be connected to the internet to just play the game. Obviously you don't get a day one patch but that should go out to devs, maybe don't settle on hoping a day one patch fixes your bugs that you missed before setting the master disc to be finished?
    Also the statement that digital loads faster is complete BS. There's often no difference and if there is it's incredibly minuscule and isn't even worth bringing up.

      We wont move past this any time soon. It will be back in the spotlight when microsoft inevitably closes studios down (there is no way they can sustain that many studios on xbox's current revenue stream and gamepass isnt growing and their traditional game sale model has taken a huge dip since gamepass). It will also come back up once the Xbox leadership changes and we get a more profit orientated Xbox that will increase gamepass prices and push to stop putting CoD on other platforms (probably including PC as they already stated they would have preferred to not have to do day one on PC if they didnt need to). It will be in the spotlight when xbox announces (if they ever revive any of these legacy IPs) Crash or Spyro as exclusives... we wont see how bad this deal is until a few years down the line

They've also mentioned it's their biggest launch ever, superseding Skyrim. Also I really don't think Game Pass growth is going to stay static, not with an influx of all of these studios whose games will hit the service. They've said they feel like they've reach all they're bound to on console, but that doesn't account for potential PC growth.

      @@readysetpanic that was bethesda, but none of their other games or studios have had that success. Hell, Forza Horizon 5 had a player base of 10 million on launch, but that didnt translate to sales. Bethesda is the exception not the rule.
      Im happy to hear you believe that Gamepass will grow, but it hasnt even with Bethesda dropping Starfield, and I dont think Activision will move the needle. CoD isnt going exclusive and I dont think many gamers will just switch over to xbox or gamepass just for call of duty when they have to subscribe to a service that they wont probably use... spending a one time fee of 70 bucks on a system you already prefer over a recurring 17 bucks a month is still saving them money

    • @readysetpanic
      @readysetpanic Год назад

      @@jaynordiaz4609 Same green team to me, but I agree that at this point Starfield could be considered an outlier, but that doesn't mean it's success can't be converted into sustained momentum if Xbox manage to continue releasing big title games at a more sustained clip, which they've largely been unable to do until very very recently. Dropping a big AAA game every quarter to the subscription like they've been threatening to do is a marked difference to what the service has been until now (which has still been a pretty good deal IMO).
      We'll see how it goes, I just can't imagine there being no traction with such an influx to the service, provided they market the hell out of it.

    • @jaynordiaz4609
      @jaynordiaz4609 Год назад

      @readysetpanic that's a big if... they couldn't do it on a consistent clip since like gears 3... I can't see them doing it with this many studios. At most we will see their impressive smaller, which I love... but they just don't have the infrastructure to bring out a polished AAA experience like sony or nintendo... they can get there, but I dont think 40 studios is the way to do it, especially when you now have the task of trying to clean up activision and try to move studios back from CoD support studios, at a time when many of the studios talent that had original ideas and were not just working on one title have all left.
      This is going to be a painful period for xbox with trying to get cohesion and manage this many studios. I won't be surprised if we see 30 to 40 percent of these studios close at some point in the next 5 years
