- This past weekend I went to a great estate sale and found lots of items that I can use in my collage art and for art journaling. I found some blank notebooks that I can use as gluebooks for tiny collages, and some awesome books for collage material. The best find was an old cookbook that I want to turn into a special journal. I don't have the heart to tear it up!
We'll be working on collage and assembling an art journal this summer in the Vintage & Collage Club. We work on monthly projects and there is an opportunity to exchange something every single month. The goal of the membership is to find motivation (reasons to collage) in order to:
--enjoy working with vintage papers
--strengthen your collage skills
--have fun making art

My adopted father was a Horologist he repaired and built clocks for over 50 years. He was the last of 7 of them in the world. Anything clock repair or catalog is absolutely priceless in many ways.

The bible illustration book is the BEST!! I would make photocopies of the pictures and use in a collage. The rotary dial what a great display item!

An fyi, in case you'te not aware- the cutter is self-sharpening. Every time you cut, the blade is sharpening against the body's metal piece. I love mine and use it so often.

You will love that guillotine paper cutter. I got one from Goodwill several years ago and use it every day. The blade never goes dull.

Omg….that paper cutter is sublime. I have 2 “modern” paper cutters that (insert raspberry sound here) 😂 They just don’t make them like they use to….
Yep. This one is definitely old school. I have to be careful since there's no guard on it, though.

I just had another look through it yesterday and am still trying to figure out what to do with it.

You had me at “I went to a great estate sale”! Bahaha, kindred souls. We are an odd lot. The recipe book could be generational or others wrote down their favorite recipes to share. I have an old cupcake pan for keeping embellishments nearby. Actually, I have a set of twins, they stack nicely. Thanks for sharing!

Wow! You are so talented! You are going to make some wonderful things with your new acquisitions! I am very curious about the journal bath you are planning. Who is going to bathe the journals once they are ready to be dunked? How many pages do you need to make for the journal? I am thinking about it although, I like making of a kind collages. To me, they are absolutley priceless treasures and deserve the love and care that I know you will give them. As for the other treasures, what a find, the beautiful old cook books, I really am drooling sitting here watching you. 😛😛 Thank you for sharing in this wonderful adventure with us, it has been almost like being there with you. (Wish I could get there to you, but being here in Cape Town, I am a bit worried that my canoe will not reach you) 😂😂 Anyhoooooo, I could go on forever in telling you about how happy your haul has made ME!!!!🤗 I can only imagine your excitement. What a great haul!!
Someone gathered recipes from various people, etc. and tried to save them. Lots of sentimental value. The elderly woman might have known if she's in good health.
Yes. I think so too. A lot of recipes for sentimental reasons. 💜
You found a great sale with good prices. I went to one today too. It was a 1937 house that was just stopped in time like a time capsule. Original kitchen, original bathroom, all the cool built-ins but in rough shape. I took some pictures of some of the wallpaper to use as digitals, I didn’t buy anything. I didn’t find anything good, no ephemera. There were books, but nothing that I needed, lots and lots and lots of doilies though, but I held myself back, the prices were good too. I can always go back tomorrow. I looked up the house to see if it was for sale just for entertainment purposes and it’s not listed but Zillow value is $1,069,800, it needs at least $200,000 in work possibly more if there’s issues with the foundation because some of the floors were kind of slanted and mushy but anyway, I love the Yosemite book that you got. I love Yosemite, I love all the stuff you got.
I love old houses. Yes they are a lot of work and need lots of repairs. They can be hard to keep up.
I’m watching this on the tv but needed to comment. You had an 5:16 unbelievable find at the estate sale. I’ve had some myself but am impressed with yours. The Bible symbol book was amazing. I think that image you couldn’t determine is probably king or leader or something like that. I loved seeing your goodies!

Omgeez!! That cookbook recipe keeper. I love it! That Bible story is actually an illustrated version of a Bible verse. Proverbs 30:27-28 27 locusts have no king, yet they advance together in ranks; 28 a spider can be caught with the hand, yet it is found in kings’ palaces. These verses belong to a group of four verse in Proverbs 30:25-28 about the four things on earth that are small yet extremely wise. Proverbs 30 is the sayings of Agur son of Jakeh, a very interesting Chapter in the Bible. This book would be GREAT to use for Bible study.

My father in law was a Horologist. I have his working desk now as one of my crafting desks. Margarete you scored on that estate sale, the telephone dial and all those recipes just wonderful. Back from London in a week time flying to Finland for two weeks. Have a creative weekend my friend!
