- Homemade surfboard with an open propeller longtail motor ,pretty dangerous but totally awesome if you don't fall off! Big thanks to my dad and Shaun for filming. This video took awhile to put out as I upgraded cameras editing software and computer to make better videos hope you enjoy it

EPIC! Editing is on point too bro!
Thanks
Welcome back. Happy bday and merry Christmas.
Thanks , merry Christmas
The special effects were amazing. That looks like heaps of fun. Normally I think drone shots are over used but this was the perfect use
Haha thanks, I think the drone shots worked well because of the great scenery it is really nice there
Good work Dan, really nice editing. Mean surfboard too 😎
Thanks! 👍 you would probably like riding it
Heya bro Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year! Good ta see ya finally got moving on the boat board!! long tail was pretty spot on aye!? heaps of fun! maybe a improvised jet unit on the end instead of the prop of death? hahaha or a rim driven propeller? they look pretty fun!
Thanks! The problem with a jet is they are inefficient it would go a lot slower, I could make some sort of guard to make it a bit safer haha
Looks like so much fun. I wish I lived near some water. I have a lot of land toys but I would love to play on some water some day. I really enjoy watching what you think of. Your a great inventor. 👍
Thanks, I think there is a lot more fun machines to build for the water as there is just so much space to try things out
@@DktheWelder agreed and no coppers or speed limits lol
Awesome drone shots, looks so nice to be out on the water like that. Too bad that twin 2 stroke didn’t work out, I’d love to see it make a comeback someday!
I know it would be great if that thing worked. Need a better motor
@@DktheWelder These two engines should generate about 4 hp (together) use an impeller of 64mm diameter by 64mm pitch. Expect speeds close to 24 km/h depending on total weight.
it looks like a blast and a beautiful view keep it up buddy.
Thanks, lucky to live near such a nice area
Awesome Man!! Merry Christmas.
Happy holidays!
@@DktheWelder thanks man same to you.
Hey ! your video made it to the outskirt west of Montreal
Quebec Canada . Great stuff Mister !
O cool , that’s a long way from here!
And also to Belgium Europe
Looks really fun. Be safe.
Nice work
Merry Christmas Dan,
Glad that wasn't your real leg :)
All the best for the New Year,
Thanks mate , I managed to keep all my limbs haha. I am nearly ready to put out a mini jet boat video soon I have been watching your videos over and over haha. Also do you know how fast your motors spin?
@@DktheWelder Hi Dan, I think they are about 30,000rpm unloaded (free-spinning), but it's about 16k max before cavitation kicks in, that's just a guess though,
Looking forward to the mini boat,
You very mad lad :)
that was excellent, if I owned one I think I would have a strong lanyard with a handle attached to the bows it would give me more feeling of balance and control, especially in a chop, but Bro that looked like fun,
I was thinking of doing that actually, the handle on the motor actually gives good support I got a bit more confidence towards the end and could turn much harder be pulling myself against the board
Hi DK,
Sweet lawnmowerboard there mate.
Do you think a 125cc pit bike engine could work with a jet impeller?
Maybe just if your not too heavy, it would be fast with a prop
@@DktheWelder thx
I weigh 80kg. Thinking of buying a jet impeller (80mm) from MHZ Watercraft in Germany, then coupling it to a 125cc pit bike engine since it's a bit flatter.
Any idea top speed I can achieve?
Thx.
It's so danger, but you can bypass governor and use a propeller 5.5x9.58 or 5.25x 10.08 and the propeller spins 5010 rpm (half propeller out of the water and near limit to float valvues). Sorry for my bad english.
Yes it has a lot more speed in it! The governor is slowing it down a bit, how do you know those propeller measurements? And where do I find them?
@@DktheWelderYou have a 3D printer to print a mold and then cast it in aluminum. Use a cad program to design the propeller. Or try using carbon fiber to reinforce the propeller that was printed. There is a formula [(Power(HP)^.2 *632.7)/rpm^.6]= Bore (in inches). If your propeller works half out of the water (2^.412)=1.3305 or 5010/1.3305= 3765.5 , 3765.5^.6= 139.7956, (8^.2)*632.7=958.99, 958.99/139.7956=6.86 (propeller diameter ) . for every 1/2 inch decreased in diameter equals 1 inch in pitch, 6.86 - 5.25 = 1.61, 1.61 x 2 = 3.22, 3.22 + 6.86 = 10.08 . Of course, other factors influenced the result, but these parameters serve as a basis.
@@DktheWelder Seek at grabcad for propeller for 8 hp stationary engine 133.35x258mm and 133.35x274mm. Congratulations for yours great projects.
There is another prop 139x322mm.
Happy birthday Mr DK 😊
Thanks 👍
A small CAGE ON THE PROP would be so much safer and help keep any weeds out DUHH. I am DH the Welder fabricator.
I have tried that , it makes I way less efficient like about half as fast and the weeds get in the guard instead of getting chopped up
you should be able to get those 2000w brushless motors for gokarts they sell as kits and make it work with the long tail, then for battries maybe buy those 12v lifepo4 ones
Yeah there is a 56112 motor I think would work well they are about 10hp I could make a small short tail setup and maybe put it on a paddle board. I think I would use 18650 cells though just so it goes for longer
@@DktheWelder if you use those 100ah 12v battries they sell, it would be easier to run and way more capacity unless you can get tons of 18650's in bulk, a welder, bms and lots of time to build it
Tactical reload 😂😂
Cool as bro should put a foil fin underneath be choice I’m looking for a kayak to fit weed eater on at moment use 1 of my spare kontiki impellers on it lol
I would like to try build a hydrofoil! A motorised kayak is a cool project!

Can you turn the board by just leaning? I was wondering if you could fix the longtail straight and ride it like a real surfboard using a hand throttle.
Yes it does turn by leaning but the long shaft holds it straight, it could be fixed with a shorter shaft
Or a chain driven drop shaft right behind the board. I love watching your crazy ideas come to life. I wish I had access to machine tools like you do.
look up the TEMO electric long tail outboard thingy.
I just looked that up , super cool ! Wonder how fast it goes
The special effect budget was too high, it looked real.
Great fun for sure.
I know it was almost going to have to be R rated haha
Happy Birthday!
👍
Hello, what are the optimal screw parameters, pitch and diameter? Which is the best of all that you have tried?
The are surface drive props the best one is the 8 1/2 inch for that motor
@@DktheWelder What is the pitch of the screw?
that looks wicked fun....... and they reckon chicks dig scars?
It is super fun, but don’t want any more scars haha
Motor 7hp?
Yes it says 8hp on it but it is a 7hp motor
How many cc is the engine?
212cc
Was that a year ago already? :) Any reason not to build a small safety cage around the end of the prop? I guess it would go slower.
it was last summer I rode it I think at the end of summer . I actually made a guard for one and it made it really slow but I have an idea for one that shouldn’t slow it down much
Maxsimum speed?
38kph
How much .hp?
It says 8hp on the motor but I think 6.5
