      I can vouch for that, also, this is far from the nicest area North Island NZ has to offer. I'm spoilt and have seen most of the east coast by boat. Many adventures await with more safety gear and more robust drive systems.

    Very nice.
    That is impressive speed for a big boat on that electric motor.

      Yes it works well I wish I got a 36v battery made instead because I don’t even need to rev it very high 👍

      @@DktheWelder I’m sure you can modify that battery.
      Just make sure there is always the same number of cells in parallel in each set in series.
      It’s no more dangerous than welding inside a steel machine, everything will arc out and melt stuff.
      Lots and lots of tape, electrical tape, packing tape, masking tape, duct tape.
      Anything works at those voltages.
      Preferably use a rubber or plastic mat on a workbench. Or wooden workbench.

    • @brucebaxter6923
      @brucebaxter6923 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@DktheWelder if you are worried, you can just cut it in half and run it as a 27?v battery with twice the capacity.
      But remember you can’t get the same power out of the motor.
      200amps max. Absolutely max. With excellent cooling max.

    I like the two motors. Gas for long distances and electric for short hops. With the cabin, you can stay for a while, making lots of short hops for free with solar and electric motor.

    • @DktheWelder
      @DktheWelder  7 месяцев назад +2

      You definitely need the gas for the long hauls . In the future I think a motor each side would work well

      @@DktheWelder yeah, I missed out the part where I had to take the anchor out in front to winch off using an underinflated soft bottom inflatable (read bends in middle) and using an outboard with almost no fuel, no oars, and when dad got free he steamed away and I screamed expletives and wait at him as I chased and he paused and as I hit the back of the boat the outboard died, no fuel left. I was pretty pissed off, ha ha. These experiences make you who you are. It's not camping on a boat like thag, easily live aboard standard. :-) necessary if spending months at sea. You'd be keen to go home after less than a week on yours :-)

      I want to do similar with a big diesel and 2x Nissan Leaf motors or similar since the 1000l tank now costs 2000-2300 to fill. Use solar for bay to bay hopping and fire up the cummins to go further or off shore. Our boat is 12.5m long and 4.1m wide, but that's too small for enough solar to continuously propel her at reasonable speeds. So it'd be a drain moving and fill up at anchor deal.

    Love the boat so far. The dual engine setup is awesome for range as pointed out by another comment. maybe add a chain or braided cable to the mercury just incase it tries to remove itself from the boat. Another thought would be to add some deck lights and underwater lights for night fishing should have lots of battery room aboard to power it. Enjoyed the fishing section of the video.... you have different fish in your area so everything you catch is interesting to me.

    • @DktheWelder
      @DktheWelder  7 месяцев назад +2

      Yes I like that idea for the under water lights , fishing at night was really fun but difficult to film. I’m thinking I make an engine mount on each side to switch between motors more easily

    • @FAKE-NAME
      @FAKE-NAME 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@DktheWelder dual mounts would come in handy for sure. I actually have dual on my 16' runabout my main 25hp is in the center raised up 5" to keep the cavitation plate in the right spot (20" leg + 15" transom so had to raise by 5") and my secondary is an electric trolling motor on a height adjustable mount on the Starboard(right) side of the transom. Can raise secondary motor out of the water to reduce drag while running the main or do the opposite and raise the main and use trolling motor in shallow water pulling up to shore or on flats.

      @@DktheWelder Ive found the 12v halogen style LED bulbs (Think they are MR16, or something like that) the easiest to convert for underwater use. A bit of epoxy around the cover glass rim and on the soldered on wires to the pins and your done. mount it on a stick for wading for prawns and crab, or point it down to create a cone of light under the boat for fishing. My dad and I have been using them for ~25 years. Gen 1 was a motorbike battery, rake handle and an actual halogen, I think we're up to gen 7, adjustable aluminium crutch with fore arm brace, LiPo, LED, brightness adjust, very swish.
      for boat use, a 1m USB LED light tape and USB power bank crammed into a Jam Jar with a handful of lead sinkers works pretty good, and takes about 30s, depending on how good you are at tying the knot around the jar ;-). If your staying by the beach, knocking up such a contraption and leaving it tied to a stick in the water can lead to very good results, even if your just observing. the light mainly attracts krill, which attracts baitfish. that brings in things like squid and flathead. that process can take a few hours tho, dont expect instant results. I dont think ive been to bed at our beach shack without checking out the beach with some sort of illuminating contraption for a very long time. Usually between Dinner and Roasting marshmallows, or port and chocolate, depending on your age bracket.

    I've been thinking about this for years since i saw the solar trihull "RA" doing the great loop,(usa) but i want to use like minkotta higher end trolling motor with a couple spares pins and props. Put an enclosure on the entire rear, making it more houseboaty for travel, don't care to fish.. i know,blasphemy 😂.. and if the loop trip goes well... maybe take the Atlantic trip to Great Britain . Roughly the same miles. But id need an auto pilot for that so i could sleep, lol..

Been shown by a pro when i saw a dudes rod snap, he turned his rod down and fought it eith the reel only, and shoaed me how to safely dehook the ray once it came up

      I looked into that and the math etc worked out well if you used the gear reduction and centrifugal clutch (cheap Chinese) and geared it for 25-30kph.
      I was going to run both.
      It needs the clutch to get enough speed up for starting torque.
