Ma se ghe penso - Margutti & Cappello (arranged & played by Maurizio "Poppy" Parodi)

Io considero "Ma se ghe penso" l'inno ufficiale della mia città, Genova (Zena).
Il carattere autobiografico della canzone prese spunto dall'avventura sud americana dell'autore delle parole, il cantante Mario Cappello. Egli, infatti, negli anni '20, lavorò per lungo tempo in Argentina, anche per la Società Radiofonica del Sud America di Buenos Aires, esibendosi in molti teatri e portando una ventata di buon genovese ai tanti emigrati che laggiù vivevano e che lo applaudirono entusiasti.
La canzone narra di un uomo emigrato da Genova, che vive in sud America e che li ha messo sù famiglia.
Quando il figlio è ormai grande, all'uomo viene una forte nostalgia della sua città e della sua terra, e manifesta il suo desiderio di tornarvi.
"Ma se ci penso, allora io vedo il mare, vedo i mei monti e Piazza dell'Annunziata, rivedo il Righi e mi si stringe il cuore....., vedo la Lanterna..", sono alcuni dei sentimenti che egli palesa al giovane.
Il figlio cerca di dissuaderlo ad affrontare un viaggio del genere, dicendogli che ormai è vecchio, una fatica che "non gli conviene".
Alla fine, però, la nostalgia prevale e l'uomo riparte alla volta di Genova dove "si rifà il nido" come un uccello migratore che torna nella buona stagione, con la prospettiva di poter poi, alla fine dei suoi giorni, riposare accanto ai suoi cari, alla sua amata nonna.

I consider "Ma se ghe penso" (in Genoese dialect, it means '... but if I think about it'), the official anthem of my town, Genoa (Zena in dialect).
The autobiographical nature of the song took inspiration from the South American's adventure of the singer Mario Cappello (also writer of the lyrics). In the 20s of the 20th century he actually worked for a long time in Argentina, including the Radio Society of South America in Buenos Aires, performing in theaters and bringing a breath of good "genovese" language to the many migrants who were living there and that applauded enthusiastic.
The song tells the story of a man emigrated from Genoa, who lives in South America and that has formed a family there.
When his son is older, the man feels a strong nostalgia for his city and his land, and expresses his desire to return.
"But if I think about it, then I see the sea, I see the mountains and Annunziata square, I see the Righi (a hill overlooking Genoa) again and I'm very moved....., I see the Lanterna (a big and ancient lighthouse in the port)", are some of the sentiments that he reveals to the son.
The son tries to dissuade him to tackle a trip like this, saying that he is aging, "which could be a very tiring journey and that 'it is not worth undertaking."
However nostalgia prevails and the man returned to Genoa where "he build his new nest", as a migratory bird back in the spring. He hopes to one day be buried next to people who love, to his beloved grandmother, at the end of his life.
