- This year on August 16-19th I had the opportunity to attend the Big Valley Free-mo meet hosted by Calgary Free-mo. This year was a big year as you can probably tell. Back when the initial invite went out to Free-mo participants it came with a challenge to build a free-mo layout with over 1000 feet of mainline. You may ask, did we accomplish this challenge? We sure did! and surpassed the initial challenge by over 100 feet and over 1800 feet of trackwork on the layout overall.
All this being said, I hope you enjoy the video as much as I did attending this event.
Great video Nick. That looks like a fantastic meet and so much fun. Kudos to the person or team who coordinated all the modules!
Hi Nick. I am cuban modeler and I feel happy to see at 7:07 a GMD-1 with the painting scheme of Cuba. I imagine it is manufactured by Rapido Trains. Thanks to the owner for that detail!!
Well that was awesome. Super huge layout. Thanks for sharing Nick!
Thanks For Coming Out We hope to see you again.!!!
Great video Nick....your curve at 17:00 looks great! Nice angle shot of it...and the sounds from the 3 CP engines at 3:55 sound gorgeous!!!
Great video Nick, was a fun weekend of running trains on the layout. Great camera work.
Great job Nick; your overview of the entire layout really shows how huge it was - fantastic.
Hello Harry,
I thought I saw your "curve" at 1:00 or so. How are you doing? And Nic, nice video. How is the camera car?
Tom Clark.
Tom Clark Hi Tom, thanks for the note. Both Nick and I put up videos of the get together in Big Valley this year. Mine concentrates more on train movements while Nick gives a great overview of the the entire layout and the modules. Have a look - just search my name - Harry Southern. Our efforts pale in comparison to what you and Josh have done and continue to do with your layout. Many thanks for sharing your journey to building a first class layout.
Hello Tom, the camera car is working good; although, during the mad dash to get on the road I forgot the camera car on my layout. Which was very unfortunate because I had my GoPro with me, with the intention to run the camera car at this meet.
wow that place is huge, thanks for taking us around.
Great job on the video, it takes a lot of skill to do as good a job as you did.
Nice work Nick. Allot of nice modules there this year.
Great video, love d the vintage cares.
Looks a great event they held there
Wish I could have come with you darn work got in the way, the grain elevator at 20:10 please tell me you took photos of it so I can do something similar!!
Was the camera on a rc or were you walking around with a gimble
What an awesome layout! Is this your club?
I been lookimg into free moand i have a question? For double main line is 26ins the max or can you go wider? Thanks man.
26" is the standard for the end plates of a double-track module (ends that connects to someone else's module). What happens between those 'public' ends is up to you. The module in the video at ruclips.net/video/ne5JMdQltw4/видео.htmlm20s containing the roundhouse, engine servicing area and eight-plus yard track is certainly far wider than 26", but at each end, it'll be 26".
