  • Join us as we delve into yet another view of Native American Basket Weaving, with Master Basket Weaver Pat Cheadle, of Winston Salem NC.
    In our previous video, Ms. Pat showed us the basics of making a pine needle basket. These baskets and the video are still available online by going to www.randolphar...
    Join us in this intermediate class as we show you how to use other natural materials such as walnut slices and raffia, a plant material made from the segments of the leaves on the Palmyra palm, a tree native to Madagascar.
    This beautiful craft has been around for centuries and makes for a beautiful keepsake for anyone. Follow along with Pat as she takes you through this timely process of starting and finishing one of these beautiful baskets which measure 12"x9".
    Material kits are available for this craft, and can be purchased online: www.randolphar... or www.randolphar...

    I just finished weaving your pattern in a macrame ring. It was a labor of love. It turned air pretty good for my first attempt I think. It got me to thinking of other patterns I could create. Butterflies, flowers, fish...
    I'm using crochet thread for my binder so the diameter is small which does for more detail!
    I got 6 3" runs for less than $5 at hobby lobby. Endless possibilities to put my own design on my projects!
    Thank you Miss Pat

    Hello there, just love watching this wonderful soul make these pine needle baskets...she's fired within me the desire to make baskets as beautiful as hers. I know she said that she bought some of her supplies at Hobby Lobby...can you tell me where she bought the raffia? I noticed hers is beautiful...what I've found has been less than desirable...(also where does she get her walnut slices? Again, what I've found is below par) just wanting to get started...thank you for putting these wonderful videos on here...looking forward to more...

    Beautiful craft. Not sure if I missed it- what size needle is she using? And how can we cut those beautiful walnuts into slices like that? I have noticed the link to both videos says the item is no longer available.

      I use a size 2 crewel needle. This information was given on the "Beginner Tutorial." I hope you have had the pleasure of viewing that video as well! The walnuts are custom made by Mrs. Pat. She is willing to sell them for $.050 each! By the way, there are plenty of kits available for purchase so you can work while you watch!!! :)

      @@britthill3779 how can I get pine needles that long ?

  • @jamescoleman2369
    @jamescoleman2369 3 года назад

    Do you keep your needles moist while weaving

    • @britthill3779
      @britthill3779 3 года назад

      I only moisten the pine needles if I am not using a center piece. I will soak them over night in water mixed with a very few drops of bleach to make sure they are nice and clean. Soaking for too long will cause them to decay.
