It’s just more heartbreaking than this. Though what I heard on this one is he and his new adopted parents died in A car accident. I didn’t actually think their reunion was not what everyone thought it would be.
The fucked up thing is in the manga, she knew about his death. She hid it though and pretended he was still alive out of regret she never confessed to him.
This is one of the first anime’s that made me cry as a child, now I’m an adult watching this back and my feelings from then still haven’t changed. I still can’t help but cry 😭

It’s a real heartbreaking moment to see your loved ones go even before their very eyes. Needless to say it was a real awful blow to poor Mitsuki. 😢 some broken hearts can never be prepared but at least one was able to fix it.
This anime is a true master piece and also the manga. I especially liked the anime better then the manga even though I know the manga is going to be completely different then the anime.
Been an anime fan for decades. yet this scene is one of the saddest, most heartbreaking ones I've ever seen. The manga has a better ending, but this particular scene is so much harder in the anime...
To this day I feel like Arina Tanemura-sensei owes an Eichi rebirth story... So I sometimes imagine one of her other characters as Eichi's next life... Otherwise it's hard to move on, which makes me even sadder for Mitsuki.
When she lies there on his grave, waiting for him to come get her... That is heartstrings-pulling ability of the artists at its best (and evilest).

I watched the anime first and could not stop crying- so naturally I thought the manga would be sadder- as I heard people say that it was a lot sadder. I brought the entire manga set and got to the end and I got to apologize but I enjoyed the anime a lot more than the manga. I felt the manga was pushing away from the point- the focus was taken a lot off of the relationship between her and Eichi and the impact of her being told oh Eichi's dead is like 'yea I know', I've always known. Here IT destroys her- imagine fighting for one thing and then finding out it was practically all for nothing. The end for the anime series is more than rewarding but is devastating as well- for this reason it's my favorite anime ever. The manga was sad for Eichi's part but it really felt like Mitsuki could move on, but here Mitsuki has to pull away from Eichi with her entire heart- I think she still loves him at the end but Takuto was the real Angel at the end

Meroko turned into an angel, and Takuto got a second chance as a human... I still feel so sad that Meroko left though... I cried so hard inside... When I first saw this scene in the anime, it hit me like a meteor from space...

I remember watching this years ago and people were hating on eichi. Just because they liked takuto and mitsuki together and bc of mitsuki's attachment to eichi.
And I just thought it was so sad. All these sad young ppl dying, glad all of them found happiness. I heard some comments eichi was content in the end and made it snow on their wedding.

aye revisiting my angst roots that threw me deep into the angst hole without me even knowing :DDD
somehow scenes from anime often change a lot in my head and when I rewatch them I realise how differently I remembered it to be and yet, looking at this scene after an entire like 7 years it's still almost the completely same as how I remembered it to be. Something about this scene was just so visceral and raw, somehow sticking to me for so long despite the fact that I hadn't even realised the impact it had when I watched it.
It's the special something buried within the young cringe of being a child and watching cringey shows
edit: may i also add that the way the sound effect for Eichi's disappearance was such a bubbly and happy noise, something about that instils so much more fear into the way this was portrayed, like a half awakened child's dream
I didn't particularly like Eichi but my soul flew away at that moment. I cried all the tears in my body and 8 years later I still cry.
