@Thomas Corley I mean i know this is subjective but to me the colors used and the background(which idk what is but i assume melted metal?) feel warm and that's how the album sounds like. Like the guitars on 15 Step, Reckoner or Jigsaw are some of the warmest instruments I've heard.

@maz. My Bloody Valentine MBV (2013) This LP has become my fav. Most of the songs remind me of how Bach would have motifs, and how the music would unfold in unpredictable chordal directions (Is This And Yes). From a Production standpoint, the LP unfolds in unpredictable directions as well. The last song 'Wonder 2' is the encapsulation of the blue cover. It will be better understood by AI a hundred years from now.

As a very long time listener of this album, I can say that it becomes more and more enjoyable past the hundredth listen. And that's me saying quite a lot for an album I have constantly played front to end in my car. After a couple hundred listens, it's still extremely euphoric. Even though it's called Loveless, all I feel for the album is unconditional happiness, and never-ending warmth. There is so much positivity, I can't help but brim in joy every time I listen to this. I’m pretty late to this album and this review having only discovered them recently. But I read an interview with Kevin Shields (guitarist for the band and one of the vocalists for the band) and he actually said, when making music around the time that they were beginning to craft Loveless (during their eps prior) that they started really playing around with that sort of drone noise layering such and he actually said when rehearsing material he and the band realised that at the end of this ridiculous noise drones they had made they were all laughing hysterically (in the exact same manner as you were) and they put it down to the music actually giving them that unhinged basically auditory high (as you said, druggy etc) so it’s incredible that your reaction was exactly the same, and that that inspiration you said you felt was adjacent to the one Kevin felt himself. Love your stuff man, only found out today you reviewed this album!

When they play "you made me realize" at the ends of their sets they spend a really long time making white noise and feedback come from the amps making it super loud and super long because of that "high" they get. It's kind of a test of endurance for the audience but it gets supposedly euphoric after a while. It's really fascinating.

Usually, when I listen to an album for the first time, I try to focus solely on the music, but sometimes I'll get distracted and browse social media for a few minutes with the album still playing in the background. However, the first time I listened to Loveless, it felt like the music itself was forcing me to pay attention by completely surrounding me in the soundscapes of the album. I was in a complete trance throughout the entirety of the album's runtime, and during a few points, I even started crying because I felt almost overwhelmed emotionally. I never thought that noisiness could be crafted in such a way as to sound so beautiful and heavenly. It was one of the few times that I immediately knew an album was a 10/10 just from the first listen.

All of these sounds are guitar and all of them done on crude hack pedal setups. Also relisten to it at MASSIVE volume. It becomes even more. lf you are just diving into the Shoegaze classics, check out some of the others like Ride, Chapterhouse, Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, Catherine Wheel - Ferment. etc etc

When I heard a pre-release bootleg cassette in my friend's car in summer 1991, I said this was the most psychedelic album I had ever heard. Glad to see it holds up, thirty years later!!

I brought this the day of release back in Nov 91 & i'm still blown away every time i listen to it just like i was all those years ago. It is one of those albumsthat just stands apart from anything else that your likely to hear. It's a sheer work of sonic experimentation that not just pushes the boundaries of rock music to its absolute limit, but surpasses it in to something else completely different & original. Only one other record has had a simillar affect on me & that was Electric ladyland. Genius album!!

Dude!!! I love your review, you convey the feeling that many of us feel, which is this joy and rapture mixed with almost disbelief that something so perfect exists. Also glad you did a follow-up because with so many layers, it took time to absorb it all!!! Thanks and please review 2013 MBV!!!

BEST reaction I've ever seen of a first listen of this album. My favorite album since I bought it on a whim in 1991.

This album literally encapsulates my experimentation with drugs at a young age. Psychadelics peeked it's head into my life briefly and this album is remembrance of that. I stood at the barrier at Coachella 2009 and walked out on the headliner The Cure for 6 plus hours. Godamn.

"I Only Said" is a very special song to me. It's my favorite song and it lyrically is a song about growing up, which matches well with the rebellious mood of the track.
I have yet to find a song that made me feel as much as "I Only Said". Drop Nineteen's "Damon" comes close, though. Might want to review Drop Nineteen's Mayfield demo from 1991 as well as the 1991 album that'll be a remaster of it.

Same here. There's something about "I Only Saids" rhythm that makes it more addictive than any other song on this track. Especially the last 2 minutes of just repeatative noise that is just so imersive. I find myself always finishing the song no matter what because of it.

I actually listened to a loop of the ending to I Only Said as I slept. Generally I slept to shoegazing when I was 17-18.
I Only Said is probably my favorite off Loveless aside from Only Shallow.

One of my first listens to this album was when I was tripping at 16 out on my porch smoking a cigarette and it's always going to be a life experience to remember. This album means alot to me, it was at that time in life I came to alot of new perspectives about myself and reality while this played form beginning to end.

Watching you go through this was beautiful...this was probably the most important album in my life. I saw them at city gardens,Trenton nj...opening for dinosaur Jr ..I went in blind...was in audience with my first love,I was 16, I remembered hearing the loudest thing I ever heard, was almost too much, then it swayed and lurched into the most beautiful song ever, j Mascis and co became impossibly an afterthought. Spent rest of my night feeling changed and amazed, out of body, back into body...no-one is the same after.I sure wasnt.

React to "Velocity : Design : Comfort" by Sweet Trip. It's this sort of shoegaze stuff mixed with IDM, like Aphex Twin-type shit. Absolutely insane album.

I remember the first time I listened to this album (it wasn’t that long ago). I was almost asleep at a bus and decided to put on some music, I’ve had some albums downloaded at my phone, Souvlaki, The Wall, The Moon Shaped Pool, etc. So I decided to choose loveless, why not? Only Shallow started to play and I thought: Holy shit, I need some sleep, I will listen to Souvlaki (first time too). Later, I’ve listened to it properly and it is one of my favorite albums from all time. And it sounded exactly like the first time, I thought I was, somehow, “high” on sleep but no, it actually sounded like this.
    Sorry for bad English

Man, I haven’t listened to this for 25 years, and you nailed it. The darkness and how it messes up your head isn’t something you can get deep into and manage to get up and go to work and vacuum your house, so now I know why I don’t listen to the same music as I did as a teenager.
