Asics Sky Elite is Team Japan's (men) shoe along with the metarise so I think they put alot of thought into it. I have half the shoes you mentioned in this video and the Sky elites have by far the best heel to toe transition response for jumping. It's really light too.
In Haikyu, some teams have a foot symbol with “ICS” on their jerseys like Karasuno. It’s a play on words on ASICS because foot in Japanese is pronounced “ashi” and if you add “ICS” then it’s ASHI-ICS or ASICS. Other teams like Nekoma have Mizuno on their jerseys, but it’s called Mizunyoro instead.
This is really helpful! Thank you! Also, if that mic is some sort of Blue Yeti like I think it is, you’ll get a better sound out of it if you have the front side facing your mouth instead of the top (or head) facing your mouth. Hope you find this helpful!!

Hello, I hope you are doing well, the Asics Sky Elite are true to the size they say they are? I've had some issues with some other Asics models, being 1 or 1.5 cm bigger than they claim to be :(
You should try out more basketball shoes. There is so much more money put into developing these shoes than into volleyball shoes. Meaning the tech and support features are way better.
@@A7bed Personally I think its mostly a preference thing. I haven't gotten to try the metariae too much but so far the major differences are this: As Coach Donny said the Sky Elite's grip is almost too sticky (which some players might like) mean while the metarise seems to strke a better balance of grip and ease of movement. Also due to the curve at the back of the metarise i wound say the sky elite feels a bit more stable. So how much use yoh get out of the metarise will depend on your jumping form. Both shoes do have a little break-in period. As for an actual recommendation: Either work great. I prefer the metarise just because I think it looks cooler. (Also its pretty funny, you posted this just as I was going to give the metarise a proper test for the first time)
@@Banjo_Was_Taken thanks for sharing your experience, I am more interested in the Metarise as I am more into jumping and I think it is better for that purpose . 😅 Hope you have a great time with your Metarise 😁👍
Hey coach! Do you have a recommendation for people like me that are looking for these things: - good for wide and flat feet - good ankle support and heel cushion - good traction - don't need a lot of bounce (I'm a bit on the chunky side lol) - good mobility since I set Thank you!
Adidas Stabil is a handball shoe, not a volleyball shoe, is great to stick quick moves but not great to jump or land. I also prefer Asics and Mizuno , but I also tried some Olympikus pairs, and the volleyball specific ones are really good, My first pair of Olympikus i got it like 15 years ago, and lasted for 2 years of using it for games and also training, which is insane ,really good footwear
What makes a volleyball shoe particularly good compared to other indoor shoes? what do they actually focus on improving in these shoes? I'd imagine a lot of stability and cushioning for the full on jumps? And do you know if some of these shoes would also be sold for badminton, or is there less emphasis on lateral support, since you don't necessarily change direction as much as on a badminton court. (I play badminton, but I feel like the mechanics of a lot of the movements are very similar)
I wouldn’t worry too much about specifics, usually best to know how to pass and set first as skills and basic footwork and rules. Just keep playing and you’ll pick it up, good luck!
Hey Donny, So that is interesting to hear you prefer the Asics again now! So the Sky Elite FF are good for wide feet? Because my current asics (netburner ballistic FF) are not and made me have to buy a size too big for my feet in order to wear them comfortably. In terms of traction on dusty floors, I never noticed explicit problems with my current shoes, up until this year at least, so I am not sure if the floors got dustier where we play (possible) or my shoes wore a lot in the last 2 years (which is sort of weird, since I'd say they have definitely not gotten as much play time as they would have without COVID, but then again I only started volleyball 2 years ago so have no comparison as to wear). So how fast do you feel like you start slipping with certain shoes? I am considering the nike zoom hyperace because of that, but at the same time both the sky elite FF and momentum are very appealing.
i think that shoe has tokyo on it cuz of the Olympics. Team Japan players are all using that shoe specifically from what i recall (plus the olympics were originally supposed to be in 2020)
Some people actually use basketball shoes for volleyball, kinda makes sense since both sports play in similar courts and a lot of stop and go, multidirectional motions (even tho basketball is more demanding)
as a casual/non-professional player, its absolutely fine. im was on my school's bball and vball team, and i used the same rotation of shoes for both that being said, volleyball shoes are noticeably lighter than basketball shoes, so you might not feel as light or as fast if you use basketball shoes
Hi! I'm so surprised to see you recommend the Asics Sky Elite (the Tokyo color!) for your wide feet. I have normal feet and found them way too tight on the sides in the front. Did you go a size bigger or so? I really want to love these! Maybe it's different for the women's shoes?
That #7 looked uncomfortable... But then, I never liked Adidas overall ether. My oldest son was in Cross Country, and he had the same issues you did with the running shoes... We had the best luck with a Nike brand... Maybe it's a brand thing? Too much attention to style vs function??
I had the same 7s before I watched this video for basketball but I definetely do not recommend them. I think he paints them in too good of a light but I do recommend the hyperace 2s.
i am playing as a spiker in my volleyball team and i realised my shoes are just awful after so many time using them so i didnt give much attention to my shoes because i didnt knew if something would change.Coach donny what do you suggest me to buy i am thinking about the asics sky elite ff mt because i want a shoe that is very good for jumping ,shock absorption[safety],and have a good grip when i do multiple moves in the court.[I actually mostly care about the jumping experience]
Cool to see the classic volleyball shoes (asics and mizuno) doing well again after being kind of overshadowed by nike and adidas in recent years
There’s a new Adidas shoe called the Adidas Novaflight. If you can do a video on how comfortable the shoe is, that would be very helpful.
