I thought we was going to have a story expansion with G being the big bad villain or whatever he is and have Gill and Seth in the story as well but unfortunately that wasn't the case and we still don't know or ever will know what G actual plan is for the world.
Charlie shouldn't have came back he didn't accomplish anything and there was no one on one moment between him and Guile which was insane to me and his death meant absolutely nothing his sacrifice could have at least made Bison a little vulnerable during his fight with Ryu in the end.
That's actually what they were going for. Nash didn't manage to defeat Bison but he weakened his defenses enough that Ryu was able to finish him. But like so many things in that story it was sadly poorly executed.
The Street Fighter 5 story mode was bad but I 100% will defend Laura's writing regarding Sean, they completely understood the assignment ad nailed what they were going after. Also the "friend" of Zangief in India was confirmed to be Darun Mister on the S.R.I website profiles About Zangief and superheroes. In my headcanon Zangief ends up staring in basically his own version of the power rangers that becomes a hit sensation with kids (I even storyboarded my own zangief trailer about this lol) As for Bisons defeat, I wanted Charlie's sacrifice to lead to Bison being in his battle damage outfit and missing an arm and then Ryu fights bison, starts losing as Bison loses control of his power and it keeps increasing then chun-li appears and ends up being the one to destroy bison and then I would have the final scene of the story being chun-li at her fathers grave and she says that she's finally avenged him, but then she starts crying saying lamenting the pains still there, her dads still dead and then Lei-fan holds her hand and they effectively walk into the sunsst together
One of the biggest problems with the story mode for me is the character selection. This is supposed to be the big finale for Shadaloo and M. Bison, but extremely important characters like Rose, Sakura, or Sagat are completely absent while jobbers like Birdie keep popping up. Even Urien, a character who has nothing to do with this storyline, shows up over characters who have a direct link to Bison. I guess it was just a byproduct of SFV’s limited roster, but then maybe it wasn’t a good idea to tell this story with this roster, now was it?
Sooo many people deserved to beat Bison more than Ryu: - Charlie was killed by him (multiple times lol) - Guile was so obsessed with revenge over Charlie, he almost lost his family - Chun-Li's father was killed by him (on a Tuesday) - Juri's family was murdered by him and that turned her into a psycho - Cammy and the rest of the dolls were brainwashed and turned into puppets by him - Rose's master was also killed by him Ryu being the one who delivered the final blow was lazy AF and made me realize not even Capcom cares about the Street Fighter lore.
So, that scene Zangief going to India to see a friend? That friend in question? Darun Mister from Street Fighter EX / Fighting EX Layer. Where is this confirmed? Darun Mister's SF5 Character Bio on the official website. SF5 has a crap ton of Character Bios on the website, including the EX cast. Darun's specifically mentions that he has the piece. (It's in Japanese, but Google Translate says "A friend to whom Zangief entrusted the "piece".") Since the likes of Darun belongs to ARIKA, maybe they couldn't DIRECTLY mention him by name in the story? Sure, we got the ARIKA costumes for the characters, but I don't think they could mention them. But that's just a theory.
This story mode makes you appreciate the story direction of SF6. SF6’s story is simple but at least it didn’t ruin the characters that much and was interesting and lighthearted too
Fun fact about Peter the cop He’s named after and voiced in English by Peter “Combofiend” Rosas, the then Capcom community manager who also gave the infamous “characters are functions” statement during the lead up to Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite’s release
Interested in seeing how Thorgi’s thoughts change over time whenever he gets around to the MK and Tekken retrospectives bc after finishing Khaos Reigns’ story mode I can confidently say it takes the cake for the worst cinematic story mode ever. At least SFV’s story was shockingly bad.
Street Fighter 6 World Tour could do the funniest thing with your Avatar character and have them participate in a Renaissance faire style play of a Shadow Falls basically doing every single fanfic level rewrite of this retrospective and have Rashid show up and say, “that’s not what happened, it was more like…” cut to black where the Avatar’s first line of the game be, “That sucked.” 10 billion bison dollars from Capcom.
House of the Dead 4 did the whole "Only have moments to live and sacrifices themself with them to save the day" plotline better than they did for Nash.
I can say that for certain that despite how bad MK11 storymode its nothing compare to SF5 storymode was, and you can't convince me otherwise. Thorgi if you're reading this I need your honest opinion Which you say has the more worst story mode. A) Street Fighter 5 or B) Mortal Kombat 11?
@@21Handguns No no no no no to you maybe, but this was more atrocious when it comes to artstyle, its fight choerography and to its voice acting. I much rather hear Rhonda's Sonya acting rather than Laura cartoony girly tone towards Sean.
You did mention how it feels like the devs did actually have plans for this story and were just not able to make it work due to time and budget problems and I think you are right on that. They had ideas, they wanted to tell a story and planned out those stories but the biggest issue I see with this story mode is that they tried to tell all the stories they came up with on one go. Essentially there are three strories told here at the same time: Ryu overcoming the satsui no hado, Rashid's story with his programmer friend and Nash's story with the downfall of Shadaloo and all these stories together just creae a completely jumbled mess. You know how this could've been fixed? Make several story modes, make the whole thing happen is several story arcs that then come together in a final sequence. Like each season gets it's own shorter story mode which then form a greater whole at the end.
Necalli's role in this "story" is basically like a griefer in minecraft or whatever that keeps getting killed but just comes back to start crap everytime
You know, I'm aware it's a small thing and this could just be me, but on the whole Marz thing...I always thought they could've retooled it a bit so that Marz WAS Rashid's friend (have her disappear a bunch earlier). Then the "Rashid of the Turbulent Wind" password could be something she put in while trying to resist brainwashing as Rashid's who she thought of and wanted to save her when she was still herself. That would at least be...something?
Watching this made me shout: F.A.N.G. of all people is the only strong consistent link in this story, despite being a comedic buffoon, still manages to fulfill his role/presence to the very end. Even with the cop-out death, he's at least still the only other king doing SOMETHING. Between the base newcomers, Necalli was wasted potential, Laura barely did jack save for awkward dialogue, Even Rashid had a few missteps though at least he had an actual finished arc. When you make the tonal dissonant new Shadaloo king the strongest link and do more than your BOSS, that just screams issues. I genuinely think the only thing I'd do with the poison bird guy in a rewritten version of A Shadow Falls is makes Rashid's kill the true one for at least the story duration. and even sticking to the canon that he's still around I can easily write around that his death was exaggerated cuz knowing him, he's the kind of cartoony character that can just come back when he wants.
It bothers me so much there was no world warriors tournament in this. That should have been the first act, everyone fighting together but the player gets to see how good friends they are while getting some necessary explanation on the McGuffins like marope, black moons, and Project Chains. I still don't know what Bison's plan was here.
The4thsnake made a way better story structure for sfv. Cliff notes -break it into 3 stories -part 1. Chun li Cammy charlie and Guile take the main spot to take down Bison since they need the most revenge -part 2. Ryu and Ken take center stage taking on Akuma Necali and Evil Ryu. On a journey to control the satsui no hado -part 3. Karin being a rich girl that loves fighting holds a tournament for cash prizes with all the characters that has nothing to do with Bison or Akuma It gives all the characters something to do and characters are in places that make sense
I remember looking through the wiki and finding the page for Peter the cop and being surprised that there's a Street Fighter character with the same name as me, only to realise he's just a random cop in the story mode. He needs to be brought back in Street Fighter 6.
⚠️Biggest disappointment with V's story was that Charlie, Guile, Cammy, Juri nor even Chunli...got to finish Bison. It was friggin' Ryu, out of the blew. He had no ties to Bison, unlike the aforementioned characters, with years of History, and was was just given the role of 'hero' only because hes the friggin Poster Boy of the Franchise! What a rip!😢
It’s funny how Thorgi talks about SF5’s story mode being the equivalent of the avengers while Thorgi literally does an avengers crossover with some of coolest RUclipsrs in the fighting game community 😄😄😄😄
The4thSnake made a video explaining how poorly Capcom made this game's story. His concept of how he would have done SF5's is soooo much better than Capcom can come up with. You should definitively check out his channel and his takes on wasted potentials of fighting games' characters, story, etc.
26:21 actually THERE IS a town here in Brazil called Londrina, which literally means "From London". That's because some guy was in this town and said "Hey, this place looks like London, let's call it Londrina" and the name stucked! With that said, that still would not be so possible due the distance between Rio de Janeiro and Londrina, there's no way in hell that Juri was able to do this trip so fast, no matter how cool she is
Aaron, you had to suffer through Street Fighter 5 so none of us would have to. Twice now for that matter! Take a month or so to breathe and go take a nap, I feel like you deserve one by now
This has nothing to do with the video, but I just wanna say that I'm happy that I discovered this channel way back when the first Build The Roster came out. I'm happy to have found a channel that loves fighting games, fighting game stories, Easter eggs, fun facts, and characters just as much if not more than I do! Keep up the good work Thorgi. Also this channel inspired me to make up my own fighting game rosters whenever I'm bored, so thanks for that.😊
I think they had Ryu fight bispn because mu no ken is supposed to be the antithesis to psycho power. Charlie had revenge as a motivator which probably was not the best against the emotion fueled power.
And people called me crazy when I said Rashid, A.K.I., Ed, and Gouki were meant to be base roster because they already had art of them bunched up with the main cast.
I think that this story can be summed up with two words: Missed potential. So much missed potential for A Shadow Falls due to time and lack of storyboard writers. Much stronger character interactions skipped out on. Important character moments left off-screen. A fantastic premise for a story shifted, jumbled around, and a lack of coherent strains. Even with improved graphical fidelity, all of these issues still rear their ugly head. Some say that is comparable with Marvel VS Capcom: Infinite's Story Mode. At least Ryu and Hulk have a broment due to both struggling with a darkness inside of both of them. That alone gives that story a leg up on A Shadow Falls. Not much of a leg up, but a leg up nonetheless. Also, that whole rewrite for Ryu's struggle to master the Power of Nothingness is beat-for-beat Jin's struggle to master the Devil Gene and become Angel Jin in Tekken 8.
I'm right with you on the Ryu thing. As one of the 12 people on earth that's genuinely passionate about Street Fighter lore that resolution just pissed me off lol. I buy damn near every comic, book, read everything online about the lord because I love Street Fighter so damn much and that whole thing was just so off putting. I was expecting some big thing to happen with him and Mu No Ken but no, we got that.
You know the story is bad when even its biggest plot point, the death of M. Bison, doesn't stick. And yes, I know his whole deal is always coming back, but the entire story was building up to how his influence in the world was going to fade, and yet, come next game, there he is as a naked hobo
You know if Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike Urien stated Chun Li's "Powerful legs took down that organization". It's like no one ever mentions this and she only has one fight. Like what the hell!?!?
They should’ve just had multiple shorter story modes Focusing on different characters. It would’ve allowed for each of the stories to get more development time. One of Ryu conquering the Satsui no Hado and defeating Necalli. One of characters like Zangief and Alex dealing with the chaos caused by the Black Moons. And finally, one where Nash, Chun-Li, Guile, Rashid, etc. defeat Bison and Shadaloo
It really feels like Capcom saw what MK and Tekken were doing with stories and said “oh, then we need ours to be like that. To be like some Marvel movie” when the reality is SF as a series hasn’t earned any of that. Tekken has always had its wild through-line stories with the Mishimas, the devil stuff, the dang robots and cyborgs. MK from the get-go was a story about chosen fighters competing in a tournament to prevent an otherworldly invasion. Street Fighter has been about…street fighting? Some characters care about Shadaloo? There’s not a really big world built out from game to game either. So you’ve only really got “Bison is the bad guy” and “satsui no hado” as reoccurring themes… So when A SINGLE GAME tries to invent a world that connects Bison’s life and death to Gill’s ascension, the end of Evil Ryu, and introduce a whole new villain, all the while desperately trying to make every character of the roster fit into this main Marvel-esque plot whether it makes sense or not… You just fail, because you didn’t work for it ahead of time. You didn’t earn it. SF6 gets it right(ish), SF is really just about the excitement or celebration of itself. Of competition. You can build smaller tales in that world, and even do the JP/Ken thing because you’re not cramming every character into that plot. Just let the world feel like it’s full of these interesting characters with their own lives.
I'm sorry, what's painfully uncomfortable about Sean and Laura...? The weird jujutsu moment? It feels like the guys here were hinting at something else as they already mentioned the headlock...
23:15 ngl my assumption was Juri is just sexually attracted to Cammy and was trying to earn brownie points with her. My reasons Juri is established to be a sex crazed bisexual that full of sexual innuendo. She flirts with Cammy in their sfiv fights and in the story she protects Cammy from Vega several times than said she's jealous of how much Cammy cares about Decapre
Birdie ending up as Karin’s security guard is probably a reference to how he was originally a bar bouncer back in SF1. And him obsessing with food… it’s established in Alpha that he keeps trying and failing to climb the crime ladder within Shadaloo. It’s easy to justify his fixation with him being poverty-stricken from his repeated failures. That said, again, he was trying to ascend Shadaloo back in Alpha. And he’s currently hired by the Kanzuki estate, currently the only faction that can equally contend with Shadaloo. Doesn’t that sound like Birdie is in the perfect position to betray his current employer, giving the crime organization the chance to take down one of their biggest oppositions? Just have Bison or F.A.N.G. or whoever win him over by exploiting his hunger, selling out the good guys. It’s still kind of a bad message about overweight people, but it at least makes him more important than the 5-or-so other chumps who’re only here because Karin hired them as bodyguards, and it gives some more tension to the plot, which it is in DIRE need of.
Thorgi ngl your Kevin Conroy impression is great👍 It might not matter but if they made Necalli an amazoness woman archetype and still had the doodoo story.... people would hate the story and not Necalli 😂 and now he's like Capcoms teenage mudvayne/godsmack/limp bizkit phase lol🤣

This is my superbowl, thorgi you and guilewinquote have helped encourage me to get into fighting games and if i ever need a video to put on in the background its one of those long retrospectives. Im hoping i can get myself into fighting games but its a challenge haha. Cant wait for this to happen ive been excited since i watched you tease it in the last video!
Personally, I’m here to see those N64 ninjas.
I thought we was going to have a story expansion with G being the big bad villain or whatever he is and have Gill and Seth in the story as well but unfortunately that wasn't the case and we still don't know or ever will know what G actual plan is for the world.
Bro this, and Sparking Zero dropping for early access? Today is a good day.
I'm genuinely impressed of the restraint it took to not make a joke about the beloved FANG cloud effect......either that or it was forgotten.
Charlie shouldn't have came back he didn't accomplish anything and there was no one on one moment between him and Guile which was insane to me and his death meant absolutely nothing his sacrifice could have at least made Bison a little vulnerable during his fight with Ryu in the end.
@@hitinstance3556 Nash DID weaken Bison according to SF wiki...... But it isn't really SHOWN here
That's actually what they were going for. Nash didn't manage to defeat Bison but he weakened his defenses enough that Ryu was able to finish him.
But like so many things in that story it was sadly poorly executed.
I feel like the "Story Costume" from Bison was supposed to be used after Nash explodes, it is just obvious, but for some reason they didn't used it.
Lack of time if I'm giving the benefit of the doubt in terms of the making of A Shadow Falls.
Oh, this is the one where Ryu conquers the Satsui No Hado off screen… Yeah, that sucks.
The Street Fighter 5 story mode was bad but I 100% will defend Laura's writing regarding Sean, they completely understood the assignment ad nailed what they were going after. Also the "friend" of Zangief in India was confirmed to be Darun Mister on the S.R.I website profiles
About Zangief and superheroes. In my headcanon Zangief ends up staring in basically his own version of the power rangers that becomes a hit sensation with kids (I even storyboarded my own zangief trailer about this lol)
As for Bisons defeat, I wanted Charlie's sacrifice to lead to Bison being in his battle damage outfit and missing an arm and then Ryu fights bison, starts losing as Bison loses control of his power and it keeps increasing then chun-li appears and ends up being the one to destroy bison and then I would have the final scene of the story being chun-li at her fathers grave and she says that she's finally avenged him, but then she starts crying saying lamenting the pains still there, her dads still dead and then Lei-fan holds her hand and they effectively walk into the sunsst together
They nailed what they were going after? They were going after an unlikable character who's Lowkey a pdf file? 😂😂😂😂😂
@@Wavedashnoir wow... just wow
Another great history video from Thorgi!
You may have had more guests on this episode than devs working on the sf5 story 😅. For real though great video, great to see all these collabs
Sooo many people deserved to beat Bison more than Ryu:
- Charlie was killed by him (multiple times lol)
- Guile was so obsessed with revenge over Charlie, he almost lost his family
- Chun-Li's father was killed by him (on a Tuesday)
- Juri's family was murdered by him and that turned her into a psycho
- Cammy and the rest of the dolls were brainwashed and turned into puppets by him
- Rose's master was also killed by him
Ryu being the one who delivered the final blow was lazy AF and made me realize not even Capcom cares about the Street Fighter lore.
Thorgi’s getting 2000’s Capcom flashbacks with how bad vanilla SFV and it’s story mode is 💀💀💀💀
This is more of a hot mess than Chelsea Green
Who is that?
W wrestling reference
This really did feel like an “Everything Wrong With Street Fighter 5” GamingSins video and I really love those, they give me a good laugh haha!
(It's in Japanese, but Google Translate says "A friend to whom Zangief entrusted the "piece".")
Since the likes of Darun belongs to ARIKA, maybe they couldn't DIRECTLY mention him by name in the story? Sure, we got the ARIKA costumes for the characters, but I don't think they could mention them. But that's just a theory.
Yeah though have Dhalsim pick it up in Zangief's place so we can have that rematch Thorgi brought up in his fanfix. LOL
Did Halloween start yet cause it is about to be scary.
What’s scary about SF5, the character models? Necalli’s face when he melts?
@@brandonwilliams6119 ALL OF IT.
This story mode makes you appreciate the story direction of SF6. SF6’s story is simple but at least it didn’t ruin the characters that much and was interesting and lighthearted too
Corgi’s Tharcade always comes correct with these SF retrospectives.
Fun fact about Peter the cop
He’s named after and voiced in English by Peter “Combofiend” Rosas, the then Capcom community manager who also gave the infamous “characters are functions” statement during the lead up to Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite’s release
Street Fighter 6 World Tour could do the funniest thing with your Avatar character and have them participate in a Renaissance faire style play of a Shadow Falls basically doing every single fanfic level rewrite of this retrospective and have Rashid show up and say, “that’s not what happened, it was more like…” cut to black where the Avatar’s first line of the game be, “That sucked.”
10 billion bison dollars from Capcom.
Cammy doesn't have room for her MI6 identification in her combat outfit. Apart from, y'know...
Good ol’ Prison Wallet
Apart from the pouch on her thigh.
That is definitely what you were referring to.
@@emperormegaman3856 i thought of the berret tbh
Seeing Nervous Nick from ScrewAttack was such a pleasant surprise, happy to see him again
House of the Dead 4 did the whole "Only have moments to live and sacrifices themself with them to save the day" plotline better than they did for Nash.
I can say that for certain that despite how bad MK11 storymode its nothing compare to SF5 storymode was, and you can't convince me otherwise.
Thorgi if you're reading this I need your honest opinion
Which you say has the more worst story mode.
A) Street Fighter 5 or B) Mortal Kombat 11?
Both were equally as bad IMO
They're both Shit
@@21Handguns No no no no no to you maybe, but this was more atrocious when it comes to artstyle, its fight choerography and to its voice acting. I much rather hear Rhonda's Sonya acting rather than Laura cartoony girly tone towards Sean.
Not even close. Mk11 story is god awful but atleast it's pretty lol
@@Wavedashnoir MK11 is not as cartoony or has dialouge from early 90's as SFV story mode.
1:09:31 "Alright, I'll let you off this time. Go home, be a family man!" Is peak fiction, wish it actually happened.
12:30 Nervous Nick the former Death Battle Editor. Oh My God
I still don't hate SFV's story mode, nor do I hate MvCI's. Both needed work, but both had moments I really liked.
Ignantrizzy & Nervous Nick . My Beloved
They made the world warrior's.....the avengers.....what the actual f*ck!!?
The Rumble Fish
(the rumble fish)
Necalli's role in this "story" is basically like a griefer in minecraft or whatever that keeps getting killed but just comes back to start crap everytime
NGL, I was kinda hoping you wouldn’t do this. Like it was so bad I don’t want to remember how bad it was.
Zangief's friend was Darun Mista
It bothers me so much there was no world warriors tournament in this. That should have been the first act, everyone fighting together but the player gets to see how good friends they are while getting some necessary explanation on the McGuffins like marope, black moons, and Project Chains. I still don't know what Bison's plan was here.
The4thsnake made a way better story structure for sfv. Cliff notes
-break it into 3 stories
-part 1. Chun li Cammy charlie and Guile take the main spot to take down Bison since they need the most revenge
-part 2. Ryu and Ken take center stage taking on Akuma Necali and Evil Ryu. On a journey to control the satsui no hado
-part 3. Karin being a rich girl that loves fighting holds a tournament for cash prizes with all the characters that has nothing to do with Bison or Akuma
It gives all the characters something to do and characters are in places that make sense
So nostalgic seeing these kind of fellow-channel cameos.
With that said, that still would not be so possible due the distance between Rio de Janeiro and Londrina, there's no way in hell that Juri was able to do this trip so fast, no matter how cool she is
First Capcom wanted to turn Street Fighter in G.I. Joe, then they wanted to turn it into Marvel?
Bro does not sound happy at ALL. 😂 for a very good reason!
Also this channel inspired me to make up my own fighting game rosters whenever I'm bored, so thanks for that.😊
I haven't seen Nick in years. I thank you for that alone
I'm glad that someone finally pointed out how it's weird that Ryu was the one that killed Bison
Alright, time to tune in to the long-awaited SFV story mode video, I'm a little late but hope I didn't miss- is that Nervous Nick
I think they had Ryu fight bispn because mu no ken is supposed to be the antithesis to psycho power. Charlie had revenge as a motivator which probably was not the best against the emotion fueled power.
Very early youtube. People popping in to stop the main youtuber from "making a mistake" I appreciate this
What if
you wanted a thought out story mode
but Capcom said
🅱 eter
Your a trooper man can’t wait for your next part of your street fighter retrospective when you get to talk about SF6
And people called me crazy when I said Rashid, A.K.I., Ed, and Gouki were meant to be base roster because they already had art of them bunched up with the main cast.
I'm glad to see Nick from the old ScrewAttack top 10 videos still doing videos good for you buddy.
Game itself I liked, story mode sucked.
Nervous Nick. The man from Death Battle. Please come back. We miss you
I'm right with you on the Ryu thing.
I remember liking this story back in the day. Thinking back... yeah it was all basically just the Zangief sword breaking scene. Zangief rules.
Just found out The4thSnake pitched a similar idea
I assume this is the de facto halloween episode because going through the story mode is a horrifying experience
So you’ve only really got “Bison is the bad guy” and “satsui no hado” as reoccurring themes…
So when A SINGLE GAME tries to invent a world that connects Bison’s life and death to Gill’s ascension, the end of Evil Ryu, and introduce a whole new villain, all the while desperately trying to make every character of the roster fit into this main Marvel-esque plot whether it makes sense or not…
You just fail, because you didn’t work for it ahead of time.
26:45 i was just about to comment Juri explained the brazil and London travel in sf6 but it was covered lol
The "new challengers" got me cheering😂😂😂
Everyone would agree that Necalli should’ve eaten M.Bison.
I loved seeing all the cameos
I'm sorry, what's painfully uncomfortable about Sean and Laura...?
The weird jujutsu moment?
It feels like the guys here were hinting at something else as they already mentioned the headlock...
Let's Gooooo more Thorgi videos!
13:47 I knew he was getting to SFxT 😂😂😂
Yeah \o/
I have not even finished the last part just to find out that you have split up the video. This gonna be good
Birdie ending up as Karin’s security guard is probably a reference to how he was originally a bar bouncer back in SF1.
Thorgi ngl your Kevin Conroy impression is great👍
It might not matter but if they made Necalli an amazoness woman archetype and still had the doodoo story.... people would hate the story and not Necalli 😂 and now he's like Capcoms teenage mudvayne/godsmack/limp bizkit phase lol🤣
Yaa Baberuthless cameo!
Maybe the reason they brought back bison for part six is because they want to pretend this didn’t happen
Thorgi, I'm kinda mixed with this video. You reviewing the story is great, don't get me wrong. The issue I have is that there're too many collaborations you have done that felt unnecessary and it's fine to have collabs, but I got tired of it after the second one with Nervous Nick. At that point, I just wanted to hear your voice for the rest of the video.
Keep up the great work, but please tone down the amount of collabs in a video haha
