Thank you for this video! It felt a lot cleaner edited and nicer to watch than many I've been looking around at. I'll be at Doshisha for a summer study abroad program, I hope it'll be as enjoyable!
Yay!! So glad to hear that! Editing is so much fun - still have a lot to learn though! Enjoy Doshisha! It's such a great university. P.S. your singing is so great! I'm sure you'll have a blast at karaoke in Japan :P (there's a karaoke place right next to doshisha ^^)
Mie is so beautiful! I've visited a couple of times to see Nabana no Sato, Isei Jingu and Nachi falls! Next on my list are the stunning terraced rice fields :)
Going to Doshisha for a year abroad starting this September. I'll be studying at the institute of liberal arts. How have you found your experience there in Doshisha? Social life, Academics, kyoto. etc.? Any word of advice?
Doshisha is rather small, making it great for socialising - always running into people you know and you can meet up easily. In terms of meeting new people, definitely try and join a few circles (clubs), it's the easiest way to meet Japanese locals! Foreign exchange students often join DESA and/or ESA circle. DESA is a club for people interested in foreign cultures and languages, while ESA is an English club. Both hold quite a few events each semester and have a facebook group - search for either and request to join for more information (once you meet someone, they will add you to the LINE group). Also, check out the exchange student office on the Imadegawa Campus - they often have flyers with information for events and much more! My recommendation is that you really put yourself out there and make lots of friends, be social! While focusing on your studies is important, you will get the most out of your exchange if you explore Kyoto (and Kansai!), live and breathe the culture like the locals do and use your Japanese daily. The liberal arts have a different academic program from the Nichibun Centre, but I have heard good things about the Karasuma Campus! It's only a 2-minute walk from the main campus (Imadegawa). Feel free to ask any other questions! :)
Hi! What did yo study in there? I want to go to Japan for my PhD in Computer Science, did they ask you to have some certification in the language? Loved the video!
I only studied Japanese on my exchange, so no certificate required. If you want to attend Doshisha as a full-time student, you will most likely need to pass a language test equivalent to N1 level. From my knowledge, Doshisha doesn't offer computer science.. Maybe try Kyoto University (京都大学) They are more likely to have it and if you're lucky, in English too! Also, check out MEXT scholarship. I think they have great opportunities for research studies in Japan
Hello! Nice video! I want to study abroad for a semester in Japan too, but my home uni doesn’t have an exchange program to the university I want (Waseda University). Is it possible to transfer credits from Japan to my home uni that isn’t a partnered school? Thanks!! :)
Why thank you :) Sorry, can't help you out there...that's something you'll have to ask your home university about. There are definitely plenty of other great universities in Japan, so don't worry if you can't get into Waseda!
Yeah, that's right. We have about 15 different partner unis in Japan, so I got to choose from that :D There's a selection process at my uni, but because Doshisha isn't the most popular I didn't have a problem being selected. Most people want to go to keio, waseda, todai and kyodai from my uni lol You might be able to try and study abroad at Waseda privately, then transfer credit over later...(if you receive permission from your uni) but it's definitely a lengthy application process and rather complicated
Oh I see. Really cool that you got to choose 15 partner unis to choose :D yes I might be trying to just directly apply to Waseda lol because I really wanna try universities in Tokyo! I've already went to Nagoya as a high school exchange student but now, I really want to try Unis in Tokyo but none of the partner unis are in Tokyo :( it's only in Nagasaki, Hiroshima and Osaka lol
Hmm I see Osaka is somewhat similar to Tokyo, so if Waseda doesn't work out I would definitely pick that uni. (One benefit of living in Kansai is being able to easily travel to all the neighbouring prefectures! The people in Osaka are pretty cool too! )
Was it before you made the JLPT 2 ? :) Beautiful video! It is very inspiring!! :D (and made me smile much! Wishing you much fun! ^_^ )
They do have a bell! It rings after every class finishes, before lunch & after lunch LOL it was so bizarre.. (PS - The bell I used in this video is slightly different because I wasn't able to film the audio of Doshisha's bell)

I hope your scholarship is successful too! Let me know if you do get it :)
Thank you! I will keep you updated!
I'm currently a one year MEXT scholarship exchange student in Mie Prefecture, but definitely Kyoto is my favourite place in Japan ^^
Mie is so beautiful! I've visited a couple of times to see Nabana no Sato, Isei Jingu and Nachi falls! Next on my list are the stunning terraced rice fields :)

Just questions. How long are you gonna study in the university. How did you make friends in the university.
I studied abroad at Doshisha for 1 year. I made lots of Japanese friends by joining a few of societies and just being social on campus :)
seerasan thank you so much:)
Your Japanese is so good
I'm glad to hear!

They do have a bell! It rings after every class finishes, before lunch & after lunch LOL
it was so bizarre..
(PS - The bell I used in this video is slightly different because I wasn't able to film the audio of Doshisha's bell)
4:22 is this some club/circle?
No, it's actually a study area on campus.
Lots of people just go there to sleep though..
