as a kid ( teen) we used tuna cans . Cooked the sugar mix to a fudge like consistency then poured into the tuna can , we would put a bread toaster element wire into the mixture while it was soft. It would harden up with two wires coming out the top. The wire was a U shape. We then attach this between a spark plug wire on a friends car without them knowing. ( in those days you could open a hood on the outside) When your pranked friend started the car the toaster element would heat up and ignite the smoke bomb. Dense smoke from under the hood. Worked pretty good. Never tried wiring it into anything else but the possibilities are endless.
Mix them as much as you like and it will take a lot more than a spark to get it burning Maybe heating with a blowtorch until you get the mixture burning, slowly. Impossible to buy KNO3 in the UK now anyway.
Some queries for you then, Mr. UK. Are there still chemical tree stump removers in your stores? If there are, and they're not KNO3 based, what are they based on?

You can also make a few batches, adding different food coloring. Place a batch in the can, compact it and let it solidify. Make another batch with a different color, add in the can, compact and let it solidify, so on and so forth. As each batch burns, it will produce different color smoke.

I believe the steel pan was too thin and created a hot spot despite moving the pan around and constantly moving the composition around to melt. Lesson learned to use an electric griddle to melt the composition for casting. The temperature can be controlled to a greater extent.
Please don't be stupid while grinding the mixture to a fine powder by leaving it on, you need to pulse it so it doesn't heat up as much(or learn by experience like i did making smoke bombs from the early 90s alchemist cookbook) lol
I like the presentation, the label and the handle were nice touches. Cool project over all and you did well. Like others have said chemical handling should be safer. You could make a push button ignition for this pretty easy with a model rocket igniter, wire, and a small battery. If you wanted to get fancy some nichrome wire in place of the ignitier.

So if you do this please make sure there’s no mixture where you’re using the hot glue as it could ignite. Poster obviously did this but make sure not to use high heat around it or you’re gonna have a fire

If U light and burn persplex pieces it has the same effect. It's a typical smoke bomb very smelly and is pretty obnoxious as there are clouds of blinding smoke. We tried this at school once and worked like a "bomb"...😊😅😂

This is rocket fuel. I used to make it all the time. Do it outside, and for the love of dog, don't put it in a blender.

Once the mixture starts burning, it wont stop. Whether laying on the side, upside-down or in any other position.

On melting paraffin: be very careful not to overheat or leave unattended - paraffin fumes are highly flammable, ignite easily, go BIG boom.
