    Thanks for the support guys. For more information check out this blog post I uploaded.
    www.thebrandonvu.com/?p=157
    When starting out the production of this video, I anticipated it would be more of a comparison, but now it seems it's morphed into a video more like "what to consider when buying a Bimetal." Considering most of you guys already are familiar with Monometals, I thought this video would still add value and hence the name.
    That being said I'm not quite happy of how this video suits the title so somewhere down the line, I'll probably do a more objective comparison with the two where I evaluate their spin times and differences.

    I feel like the reason the majority of world champs use monometals is because they're basically advertising for their signature model or promoting whatever their sponsor wants them to promote. The casual player doesn't want to spend $100-200 for a yoyo just because a world champ uses it. They're going to go to YYF and spend $45 on a Shutter.

    • @hl8216
      @hl8216 3 года назад

      or they're going to magicyoyo or some other unknown chinese stuff and spend 10$ on node or something
      some turn to plastics cause gentry proved that you can win at least national competitions with one of them

    • @jjizzler9592

      I agree. Most beginner yoyo players who have used only 1-3 yoyos think that thier shutter is superior to everything else when all they've tried is 1-3 yoyos. The point I'm trying to make is that people who claim the shutter is the "best yoyo" haven't tried a decent yoyo.

    Just from my own experience, I have had two bimetals. I bought a space cowboy a while back and can't say I was a huge fan. It felt way to heavy. I later got a 2sickyoyos Knight and it is great! Perfect, super smooth! I am really liking it.

    • @nictheperson6709
      @nictheperson6709 7 лет назад

      I'm not Brandon, buit of the 4, the Jackknife is more "fun" (it's floatier and faster), while the other three are more about raw performance. Other yoyos I'd recommend? The Terrarian, Atlas (which is also good for 5A) and Manatee if you want to try something wider, the Compass is also a great yoyo, the Rebirth if you want to try something undersized. Oh and Banshees are supposed to be really great if you can get a glitch one (which might have a little bit of vibe, but G2 has such high quality standards that it will be minimal).

    How many top level competitors are using H and W shapes? It seems to not be a very popular choice, where as the "Horizon/Shutter" style seems more commonplace at least to my limited scope of knowledge.

    • @nictheperson6709
      @nictheperson6709 7 лет назад

      The Shutter and Horizon are both H shaped yoyos. Many technical players use this shape. Think Takeshi Matsuura (Colony), Zach Gormley (Borealis), Harrison Lee Orca), etc. In terms of W shapes, they're less common, but I would definitely say Evan Nagao (Edge) and Luis Enrique Villasenor (Aviator) use these shapes. I'm not sure what to consider a Draupnir though so you might wanna add Iori Yamaki, Jakub Dekan and Yusuke Otsuka to that list. Overall though I'd say V shapes are the most popular (they make up about half the worlds finals yoyos.

    • @nictheperson6709
      @nictheperson6709 7 лет назад +1

      +Gabriel Maja Brandon never said the yoyos aren't better, you completely misunderstood the video. Oh and pricing something high even though it isn't that good is not a scam. By that logic, pretty much every premium manufacturer of yoyos (CLYW, YYR. sOMEThING, etc.) is a scam because their products aren't as good a value. Heck, by that logic all metal yoyos are a scam because they aren't twice as good as plastics. A scam is when you lie about the product you're selling, and since performance is so subjective, no company has ever truly done that.

    The thing I find problematic about bi-metals besides their overpriced-ness is their fragility. For example, I have a YYF Nightmare. Cool yo-yo, was great new, but, a yo-yo is something you throw at the ground. Long story short, the steel rings got knocked loose and it vibed like crazy. I've since popped them back in, but its not as smooth as it once was.
    Conversely, I have a Shu-Ta that has gone everywhere and been banged on just about everything. Its still super smooth and its taken WAY more hits and seen WAY more use than the Nightmare.
    What I'm getting at is that while, yes bi-metals are great, the performance of a yo-yo made out of 7075 aluminum can be comparable (or better, depending) and has the added benefit of being more durable which is great for something that you throw.

    • @nictheperson6709
      @nictheperson6709 7 лет назад

      Many bi-metals avoid this problem by putting the rims on the inside. Think Edge, Anglam 2, Gladius, Knight, Igloo, etc. Oh and also, 7075 yoyos aren't really more durable than 6061. The only reason it's used is because it has a greater strength to weight ratio (the same reason Titanium is used) so the walls can be made thinner. And personally, I feel very similarly to 7075 as I do to bimetal. Sure, if done correctly, it can yield some designs that otherwise wouldn't be possible, but not all yoyos that use it take full advantage of it, yet in many cases cost much more as well (Shu-Ta is $20 more than a Shutter).

    In my opinion bimetals don't make that much of a sense, I'm not a competitive player, but I can pull out my tricks on a Northstar as much as I can on my metal throws, and I'm having tons of fun doing it, at the end, that's what counts. Sometimes I feel like bimetals and extreme-competition driven you feel sterile , like fun-less spinning metal thing at the end of the string, at the end of the day, I'm having more fun out of my plastic and less serious metal throws than any other bimetal I ever tried. But being realistic, bimetals look sleek af.

    I think bi-metals are only justified when they are used to create a design that would otherwise be impossible. That said, the argument that expensive bi-metals aren't worth it is something that should be extended to all expensive yoyos, monometal or bimetal. After all, there are many monometals that are priced about as much as bimetals.

    Not saying bi-metals aren't trendy or a cash grab, but I will make a case for their performance. Notice how everyone on team YYR used to get a signature yoyo? What happened when the Draupnir came out? YYR just stopped giving team members signature throws and handed them Draupnirs instead (save for Ahmad maybe because sputnik). If that isn't a testament to the performance value of the Draupnir (or any bi-metal done correctly), I'm not sure what is.

    Tbh good bimetal yoyos are 100-150$ around the same as monometals, so I wouldn't really say they are that overpriced, more like yoyorecreation and some other japanese brands overprice them haha

    Just wondering, you're main selling point for the rant was that the performance gains couldn't justify the price you paid, but when you look at Bi-metals from YYF like the Edge., Superstar'16 and Space Cadet (actually all their current Bi-metal offerings), they float around the 100$ price tag. the Magic Yoyo stealth floats around the 50$ range, and there are many other companies offering economically sensible Bi-metals, whereas there are many companies offering their Mono-metals for much more, say the Basilisk, Radius, Borealis and more...(although the Aluminium grade is higher)..........I guess what I'm trying to say is, at the end of the video when you were talking about how Bi-metals are quite possibly the future of the sport and they had to be offered at a cheaper price, many companies have realized that and have already started the Bi-metal revolution.
    I just realized, I said the costlier Mono-metals were of better grade aluminium, but Bi-metals like the Ex-Machina are made of the same grade aluminium and are cheaper(not to mention they have a secondary metal as well)

    • @nictheperson6709
      @nictheperson6709 7 лет назад

      The thing is, many of the sub $60 bimetals just use very standard designs and for bimetals to be the future, they need to be available at those lower prices while still continuing to experiment and innovate.

    • @hareeshs86
      @hareeshs86 7 лет назад

      but what about the edge, ex machina, iYoYo steel and such....even the pulsefire is 120$, these are quality, intricate designs that thrive when it comes to their weight distribution and power...........what I'm saying is these Bi-metals(listed above somewhere) are cheaper than the Mono-metals used this year and the last to win 1A worlds......so the point of cost only applies to a certain sect of Bi-metals that are only made by few companies(like turning point clyw and such)

    • @nictheperson6709
      @nictheperson6709 7 лет назад

      Well, that isn't a fair comparison, because you're comparing some of the cheaper bi-metals to the most expensive mono-metals. A lot of the pricing of yoyos is by what company it's made by. I mean think about it, the CLYW Borealis (which was made in the US) is still cheaper than CLYW's bi-metals (which are made in China). The C3 Radius that won this year is quite a lot cheaper than C3's bi-metals. Almost every company that sells both monomials and bi-metals sell them at very different prices (assuming both are made by the same machining shop) because the bimetal making process is just that expensive. Even when you look at MagicYoYo (who's best yoyo I feel is a plastic that's more expensive than their monomials), they still price their bi-metals at about twice the price of their mono-metals

    • @hareeshs86
      @hareeshs86 7 лет назад

      nictheperson I guess you're right, I have no proper rebuttal to your point....but what I'm saying is that when you say "so and so" was won with a Mono-metal, you forget "so and so" was won with a Mono-metal priced much higher than many Bi-metal yoyos....so you can't straight out say Bi-metals are costly....they are the costly yoyos IN A MANUFACTURER'S LINEUP but you have to compare those lineups when you are talking about the economic advantages/disadvantages of a Bi-metal.......an average buyer is looking at options from a range of manufacturers,its rare a buyer looks for a specific brand though there are exceptions.
      My last point........When a buyer is looking for a premium yoyo and they have 2 options....a monometal from a company with steep pricetags.....and a bimetal from a company with lower pricetags for the same price as the monometal....what would the person choose, considering the claims of bimetal advantages?

    • @nictheperson6709
      @nictheperson6709 7 лет назад

      Valid point, but I do feel like this video was more addressing the pricing of bi-metals and less whether or not you should actually get a bimetal or not. High end mono-metal yoyos are another story for another day. That said, I feel that any yoyo above a certain point is going to have a sharp decrease in return on investment. This happens once you pass $20, once you pass $60, $150, $300 and so on. Generally speaking, the value of a yoyo decreases the more you spend on it and it gets worse the higher the price you get to.

    • @nictheperson6709
      @nictheperson6709 7 лет назад

      +Bryan Perez Doesn't that apply to almost every bimetal in that price range though? The weight rims are what make the yoyo more expensive than budget metals.

    • @diorsawaaj
      @diorsawaaj 7 лет назад +1

      nictheperson Even though the Magic Yoyo Stealth and Magical are $50 each, the ring HELPS SO MUCH, YOU'D THINK I'M LYING. It's just WOW. A $50 Bi-Metal has the same effect as something like a Nightmare or a Valkyrie.

    • @diorsawaaj
      @diorsawaaj 7 лет назад +1

      nictheperson But yeah, like almost every Bi-Metal under $100 plays like a monometal, basically.

    • @nictheperson6709
      @nictheperson6709 7 лет назад +1

      +Bryan Perez IMO terms like "plays like a mono-metal" are vague and simply don't make any real sense. There's such a huge variance in mono-metals, from budget metals to titaniums, that you can't say all mono-metals share a certain play feel. That said, while the Superstar is a good yoyo for the price (besides yoyos from Chinese brands), I feel like its design could be replicated as a $45 mono-metal and be 90% as good for 60% of the price. That said, it doesn't have any real competition under $80 unless you count very niche yoyos (like extra-wides).

    Bimetal :
    1. For better Weight Distributions
    2. For Luxury looks, I must admit if people see a Bimetal yoyos, it looks more shiny, cool, and attractive
    1 thing that I hate from Bimetal : DURABILITY
    It is not designed to handle Hard Dings, Bimetal especially on the Rim, will get Wobble/Vibe after a dings, it is not stronger than Good Quality Monometals like CLYW's, I have Magic Yoyo Stealth, and after some Dings, the Rim Detached, what a Joke
    Does Bimetal determine Player Skill? NO
    Does having Bimetal make you looks like a Pro or Cool? NO
    Does Bimetal Yoyo can do a tricks that Monometal can't? NO, even Jensen Kimmit use PLASTIC YOYO
    We must not forget that Yoyo is all about SKILL

    • @nictheperson6709
      @nictheperson6709 7 лет назад

      The durability thing only applies to about 60% of the bimetals out there. Many don't have this problem, like most Anglams, Gladius, Edge, Igloo, etc.
