Gentry is too modest to admit this but I’ll go on the record saying - there is no chance I would have been on that World’s Final stage without Gentry's help. I’ve been a competitive Yoyoer since 2011, my desire to be a better player has always been there, but it wasn’t until I started talking to Gentry that I began to reinvent myself.
Gentry is one of the only examples of a Yoyo player who understands the craft of competitive Yoyoing so masterfully, that he is able to rebuild his competitive style on 3 different occasions (2011, 2014, 2018). And can then give others the framework to do the same. Gentry didn’t just give me a few pointers, he patiently gave away more than a decade's worth of hard-fought wisdom to help me on my own journey.
Although I’m sad we won’t get to see another new Gentry Stein world’s routine, his impact on the Yoyo world as a source of competitive and creative inspiration and now as a teacher will continue to remain.
Great video Gentry! And congratulations to Mir for taking the title with dominance. I'm super excited to see the future of Yoyoing in the next few years.

I think that Mir has got the best part of all of the greats in one performance Speed, slack, Zontal, Hooks, btb Zontal, techy combos, body tricks, stage use, musicality, stage presence and some of the most creative tricks ever and he hits it all perfectly! We have entered the Mir Kim era of dominance now 🔥
That is why he got a 5 in trick diversity
The transitions from slack tricks to horizontal and back to slack were insane. That DNA was the most beautiful one I've ever seen performed on a stage. Absolutely flawless performance.
Yah dude nailed it. I’m not sure if there’s ever been a 1a routine with this few mistakes before.
I want to also say that ryuichis routine blew my mind just as much as mir's. That choreography and construction really makes up for the lack of insanity (in comparison to Mir 😂). He definitely has that gift like Gentry when it comes to perfectly constructing a routine.
Ryuichi Nakamura is definitely an unsung hero of 2023 WYYC. I wouldn't be surprised if he takes the title next year.

Thanks so much man. I’m so happy by the end of the finals I was able to get over not competing and just enjoy. Ryuichi was incredible. So much effort put into the presentation from all angles. I still can’t get over that behind the head bind. The way he presented the catch, the pose, the timing to the music, the way it was integrated into the construction of the routine, the speed combo that kept the energy high after… masterful construction. You don’t see it often. I was stoked.

We're around the same age and you was one of the dudes inspiring me to do this when I was younger and you just truly have made a huge impact on competitive yoyoing and your fans bro. In my mind you're one of the few players who truly has figured out how to rock that stage every time you step on it and blow everybody watching away. Your name will be remembered for years bro and seriously please understand that you have impacted so many peoples lives in a positive way with your yoyoing and the content you create. Nothing but respect homie, I really hope you see this. I totally respect your decision although I'm definitely gonna miss seeing you throwing down some of the greatest freestyles that I think will ever come out of the yoyo world.

Mir Kim It’s so good that he has potential to never lose again his skill is above everyone else so much that it’s almost disturbing it takes a real yo-yo player to see what he does but it is unmatched his routine makes me emotional every time I have seen it that’s how powerful it is

@@Gentrystein I've been trying to learn all sort of tricks, mostly GT, wrist mount and hooks of the 1.5 kind. I've even tried to learn your speed combo, which looks the coolest since it really looks technical than the others I've seen.
