- Here we have Bandai's 30th Anniversary 1/48 scale RX-78-2 Gundam Mega Size Model.
This video is a little change of pace from my normal reviews as it contains a 2old4toys style build. As well as an unboxing and review.
RX-78. What a beauty. Amazing how it can balance even on one foot.
This video triggered the subscription of another happy youtuber!
Damn that model looks cool, to date it is the largest posable gundam model ever created by Bandai.

Fascinating the bit where you have made the joint sandwich!
Build videos are a lot of work, but it's an strange mental condition from which I suffer where enjoyment is derived from watching back something which took me time to choreograph and assemble.

Welcome back Wizartar. I'm glad to see you return but your review lacked that Wizartar spunk that I've come to enjoy in your videos. Also I would have loved to see this beast next to a Macross figure for scale.

i was hoping for a build n review on this n then i woke up turned on youtube n here it goes.
It helped a lot i'm certainly getting the 2.0 mg now instead.
Man they had such an amazing opportunity to have an LED in that kit especially with the clear eyes.
Thank you for this tip. I bought this model at Gundam Front in Odaiba on holiday and didn't know if I should paint it or not. I make cars and rockets, but infrequently. I want it to look nice without going overboard.

I really like the dvd style menus you did for this and the red frame 2old4toys co-op. very slick. Damn you for being to videographically inventive.
Also, am i the only one that finds the long periods of silence in this and 2old4toys videos oddly hypnotic.....wuhh? give you my pin numburrr? why suurRrRrrreEeEe.....
yeah I'm with lamm3rrr welcome back and I hope your right hand is ok there. as for the model, it looks cool but I'd love to get one that size with twice the detail of a perfect grade.

I really like the colors that this box show off. Its basicly an over size high grade kit and thats not a bad thing. Thanks is niffity little tool it come with yet I don't see it being used on other kits so yes the clippers is your best bet. Wow that is a really big kit, make that PG look like punk! yet I agree the PG has more quality parts and gimmicks then the MS kit.

But painting/detailing and pannel lining this kit could be fun.
But it's real selling point is indeed his hight...

This version of the RX-78-2 is definitely interesting and I think a very good item for diehard RX-78-2 fans. I don't think the price is that bad for what you get and while I do prefer more articulation in a Gundam model, this is a kit meant more as a novelty piece and perhaps, as you pointed out, geared towards the younger Gunpla crowd.
Very neat how you put the 2 runners together with the poly caps inside for the legs. It reminds me of what was shown of the RG RX-78 with their "advanced" runner system... put 2 runners together... can't get more advanced than that! And what happen to the little guys arms? Did all the other ones gang up on him and tortured him? I don't this kit is worth the money, if it had light up eyes like you said than yes I would pay 7800 yen...

It is an easy to build model mate. So for a first time kit it is a good place to start, but the price. If I were you I would go to Hobby Link Japan and have a look at their gundams. They give you a level guide regarding difficulty so as a first timer, you will not get caught out.
My first Gundam was the 1/100 Wing 0 (Endless Waltz version). Great model, looks cool and was a good learning curve. Mind you, I picked it cause it just looks great.

i get why the silent build was done for this one since 2old4toys obsession with the rx-78-2 XD
but lookin at this mega size the color separation on it is actually quite good. might need to hunt one of these down since i already have the char zaku 2 as well as the unicorn mega sizes.

@jl931 thje lagest poseble gundam ever made by bandai is HY2M, the Mega Size is 37.5 cm the HY2M is 75cm

I wish they made these new 1/48 scale kits for the more elaborate-looking transforming mobile suits, but since the kit they debuted with seems very simple in terms of build, then the sign will eventually points towards a "no".
snap kits look to me like a giant kinder surprise..cool anyway. It makes it affordable also to those that are not serious modelers
@gundamfan021 The size is written on the box... 37.5cm (a little under 15 inches)
@jiidee I agree, the height has been disproportionately added to the legs. It's something Bandai are doing more and more with their suit, long legs tiny chests. Says a lot about the designer's tastes ;)

Great to have you back Sir, I really enjoyed the video. Given the cost of the kit I was a little disappointed to see Bandai cut corners with the cavities and lack of clear plastic.
IMO the perfect grade is the best rendition of the RX78-2. I know the MG 2.0 is very popular but I've never really liked it anime inspired looks.
What are you thoughts on the "Real Grade" 1/144 RX78-2 which was announced today by Bandai, it looks like they are trying to blur the line between HG and MG.
i want to see the build review of this,i hope 2old4toys will do it............ like usual
@GundamGuns Saw that, those extra finishes aren't for me. You need to shop around, it can be picked up for about 25% off at Amiami, assuming they have any stock left

Red Frame part 3 is being worked on, 2old4toys, a Special Guest and myself are putting a lot of effort in to it.

No, it looks good out of the box, but if you're willing to panel line it, it can look really nice without any paint all you need is a pencil or grey pen.

I want this kit because it is still decent at all and that's slim RX 78-2 I feel like wanted to since ver.3.0 ran out of stock. Nor feels a bit disappointed even if just the hand parts, not at least as similar with High Grade somehow
Buttery smooth video. Loved the unique head build and the v piece in the crotch (and anything that is not seen in the 1/144 HG 30th Ani version) . Had no intention of getting this till I'd watched your review. Curse you! Do they sell oversized Gundam markers now?

@jondeak Well checkout Amiami or HLJ for the price... it's certainly not cheap. But shipping is the real killer on this one.
Height is 37.5 CM or about 14.76 inches to the head; and about 17" if you include the shield on his back

'Gunpla' comes from GUNdam PLAstic. if you search for something like 'gunpla tutorial' you'll find some good ones to get you going. Another topic is also "Plamo" PLAstic MOdel, for things non-Gundam related.

Thats similar to considering a remote controlled toy car a MODEL. Im pointing out the R/C bit, you can obviously have model cars. Jeebs otherwise you could mention the 1/35 jumbo grade MSs in the same light =_=

@nightslash3535 Not that it wont do justice, I can't see Bandai doing many releases at this scale. The design's are simple and sturdy. Fancy stuff tends to be a little more prone to breakage.
@nightslash3535 Don't see this line doing anything complex, it mostly just unscaled 1/144 kits.
This is like A High grade gunpla but for King Kong
