I was very much the same up until a few years ago. Although a huge music fan, it never occurred to me that a record label had any significance until I started seeing the patterns emerging in my collection. Now, when I come across anything from certain labels, I don't even bother listening into the album, I make a 'blind' purchase immediately. Let it be in my collection. Worst case scenario: it will not be my favourite. ECM, Nonesuch, Tzadik, Putumayo, Gondwana. Would buy anything without thinking... physical records I mean. ;)
