THE SMITHEREENS Blood And Roses | REACTION
#TheSmithereens
They have a lot of great songs. Very melodic. They also have a Beatles cover album that is great as well. I recommend them if you like good 3-4 minute pop songs that have a rock edge to them
When these guys first came out, they seemed to have it all! And just like that, GONE!!! One of my favorites, (Behind the Wall of Sleep) Thanks for reminding me of them...
A Girl like You, Behind the Wall of Sleep, Top of the Pops--so good.
Too Much Passion
@@seanswinton6242 Which I assume is an ironic compliment to the band?
This is a great band and a great song. In 1984 I replaced a bass player in an established cow e band in oregon. He had moved to LA to work as an engineer on Wheel of fortune and the Price Is Right. In 1986 When this album had just come out and of course in bum f*** oregon and pre internet we had never heard of these guys. They were getting a lot of traction in the LA clubs apparently and he sent our guitar player a copy of the cassette and this song right away jumped out at me, of course being the bass player, and we started doing it in our set way before it ever hit the radio and people loved it. It’s still one of my favorite songs and favorite bands.
They were a very cool band. I first heard them around ‘87-‘88. Around the time my taste was expanding from a focus on heavy metal to include alternative rock, progressive pop, progressive folk, and jazz. I expect you’ll like a number of their songs if you dig into them.
Great band from that era. Listen to only a memory and a girl like you....1 of my fav riffs.....
And my fav band is Rush
This album has always been a favorite of mine. A very cool sound, a little dark and melancholy, very fun bass lines in most songs. Edit to add - And jangly Rickenbacker guitars!
One of my favorite albums back in the day.
DiNizio continued to play despite declining health after a fall caused serious nerve damage, resulting in his death at 62, in 2017.
I saw them in a club in Dallas after their album “11” was released. So many great songs in that set, but what I remember most is that they were the loudest band I had ever heard in an indoor venue. No frills rock with catchy pop hooks.
Great great stuff.
Some of the best sounding rhythm guitar crunch of that era ( check out ‘Girl Like You’) . They were a very cool and unique band and seemed to just shit out hooks. I mean in a good way.
What I'd call a trucking song, solid even tempo all the way through, nice
Love this song & bass line. Great bass tone. This band has alot of great songs. RIP Pat. Very hard to find any of their stuff on vinyl though. You & your audience have great taste in music Justin.
Love these guys,..still listen all the time.
Saw these guys in the 90s. They were great. Limited in scope but great at what they were doing.
Cool band. I saw Pat Dinozio's last show. Poor guy was seriously in bad shape, after a bad accident at his home. He had to be assisted everywhere because he couldn't walk on his own. He sat in a chair the entire performance. It was amazing. He said "We never cancel a show." Very inspiring.
That sounds like Pat DiNizio. 110%
Tony DiNizio, lead singer/writer, was a great & intriguing guy.
They had a good number of hits but never "blew up," which was secondary to his love to music & fans.
In 2000, he launched the "Living Room Tour," a 5 month solo "tour" by request only, in the homes of fans. The tour was a success, and he later occasionally performed similar concerts for a nominal fee.He considered fans to be friends & hosted Memorial Day picnics for them in his own backyard. He said, "This 'involving the audience' philosophy of mine is about breaking down the walls and barriers that traditionally have separated artists and audiences."
DiNizio was one of the first musicians to throw put support behind XM Satellite Radio & early host and program director for XM Radio Unsigned station.
Have always loved this song! Has a killer groove. And my favorite band is Rush also Davy MC.
Haven't heard this in years. Great tune
This was also the theme song for the awesome 80’s movie Dangerously Close which had an amazing soundtrack
Sounds like Rush meets REM and wanted to do a collaboration of a weird hit single.😆🤘🖖✌🎤🎸🎹🥁
Yes, with a bit of Beatles in Melody maybe?
Was totally into The Smithereens
Thanks for checking them out.
Lots of good stuff
I wasn't into these guys when they first came on the scene but I really like their sound now.
Cigarette by the smithereens is a excellent tiny song. Absolutely perfect short song. Give it a listen
The Smithereens Are From New Jersey
Dude, since you like rush, give Voivod a try. Another Canadian prog rock band.
Don't besmirch the Smithereens awesomeness by comparing then to the Gin Blossoms!! Noooooo....
