- So this is the long requested follow up to my original Hangar Rat video. Sorry it's not a build tutorial, still working on that, but here is a close up look at one of these amazing home made indoor rubber band powered balsa wood aircraft. Many thanks to Ian, the builder of this particular Hangar Rat, for sharing his enthusiasm for this amazing little plane.

Amazing, I once saw a high school student fly something similar for a science competition….it was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen!
Yes they are amazing little aircraft! Thanks for watching.
GiantmanSystems can u please explain how to make it step by step
May you please explain how to make it? Pleaseeee
Many years ago I recall these were made of light weight balsa wood and light mylar, the rubber motor was available at hobby stores, so you would make own motor. One thing i learned just talking to these hobbyist who built them was that the propeller was also key in making the flight so slow. It was amazing just to watch and see how long the flights could last.

If you look closely at the the vertical stabilizer you will notice a "rudder" which is fixed to turn the plane gently to the right. Thanks for watching!
I have build 80 present copy like that hanger rat , but I didn't find the rubber band😩 but still trying with small combine rubber band . thanks for the design close up 😇
When I was a child, Brian Wattie showed me how to make this airplane. My friend Bruce Sandborn (deceased) and I made them. We had a little contest, mine flew 56 seconds. I may have been about 10-12 years old.
Amazing experience.
I was hooked for life.
I eventually designed my own rubber powered plane called the Squirrel.
Great story Darcy, thanks so much for watching and commenting :)
Hiiii can you gift me your plan?? pleaseee i promise you i gonna make it
WOW, unreal flight time, controlled flight, 'round an 'round, climbing, descending then a proper landing, amazing.
Please tell me the principles of the plane for a self takeoff
Wow this is amazing!!! i really like this project..
What materials did you use for the wing specifically ? I'm building a rubber-band propeller airplane for a project.
They are amazing little aircraft, thanks for checking out the video and commenting, appreciate it : )
pode me passar as medidas?
When working in Australia back in the 80's, there was an older gentleman that was selling bunches of these kits at the Australian nationals. A real cross-section of flyers (FF, RC, CL, etc.) built one to fly at a local gym after the day's main events. It was an extremely popular and relaxing event! I was happy to max out a few times even though I had little indoor FF experience. Amazing how a little care in construction can improve your flights!
Muy bueno felicitaciones , hermosos tus videos....Quiero empezar hacer uno, Me puedes mandar planos o medidas desde ya gracias
What kind of rubber band is that. Its very soft or hard rubber. Wondering because it flies quite long. Tried to make something like that and used simple rubber band. I ended with rubber band untwisting like in 5 seconds.
Bello!♡♡♡

Wow. Just found the instructions, a little advanced for me. Although a video tutorial would be great! I hope to make one, thanks.
Where have you found the instructions for this model?
Так грациозно летает. Чудо какое-то)
A very good all round RC is the Trophy Truggy Flux. It's not the fastest but it's fast enough and has good traction and can run on many different types of terrain. If you want something more for bashing then look at the Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 which is great value for money, if you can find one. I just got the Apache C1 Flux and really like it too, great scale looks. It's probably not going to be a great basher but still a lot of fun.
Thanks for the video - Hangar Rats are deliriously good fun - cheap to build, easy to trim,, delightful indoors and out ! Thank goodness for *Outerzone* hosting the plans for free.
What a great camera man. Of course, great flight as well !
Many thanks : )
O lo
Wow ! flying well, I'll follow you.
Very very Godd...¿Materials and Plans pliz..?,Thank you...

Hi GiantmanSystems, I have a question. I am thinking about buying an hpi rc car. Butbi dont know which one to choose. Im looking for an fast electropowered car. Doesnt matter if its a truck, truggy or buggy. Sorry for bad english. Im from Holland.
if you want wanna these go to google and type "Balsa wood aeroplane".And yes that is how it is spelled. The cheapest one is $1.98 and works good but sometimes if you snatch it out the air the wings and wood support snap.
is it better to have thinner or thicker rubber band?
tutorial ?
very good
so nyc....and amazing...whats its hole weight and how many truns given to rubber,
Great, but.....what´s the clue for long flights?...I guess is the rubber, then, what must be its features?, thanks
good fly
It took off and stayed in the air way beyond my expectations, wow
Very nice video... And all of you in comments asking how make this, he probably won't tell you as he wanted to sell it to you
Wow ! That's the best flight I have ever seen in 72 years ! Good for you !
Thanks for watching, appreciate the kinds words :)
Does anyone know suppliers of the rubber used?

Sir what should be perfect angel of propeller pitch 40 degree 45 or 50,,,
So good.

俺コレ目指して作っとる(無理と思うけど。ちなみに日本人いる?
Well the tissue is doped so it's pretty rigid, but I guess it is possible based on the tolerances at that size.
Ide bagus.., dol 25ewu nang simpanglima laris manis
Congratulations, this is the movie about the rat hangar most beautiful ever seen.
clearly shows the operation of the model and its flight, soft and majestic.
I was really amazed with the flight. this movie encouraged me to build a hangar rat to me. I just wonder if I can use as a winder electric Instead of a manual
Thanks - Jerri Aderson - Brazil
Bunun aynısından satıyolaemı
I have build copy like that ,but didn't find the rubber band .
Can you explain how do you make it step by step pleas
very good balance, very good plane
Genialne.
Привет можна на руском ящикте. Я Английский непанимаю.
It's landing is superb
I found Some hpi rc cars. But which one is better? I found: the throphy buggy rtr, the rtr apache flux sc and the rtr apache s1 flux
This is awesome !!!
Where to buy this rubber band?
Is rubber band is different than normal ones? I am teacher ? I want to teach my students to build it please send me plan and detail about rubber band
What kind of rubber is used to rotate the propellers ?
Only problem I see are the missing children from the Science/Math/English class that are learning how to wright and interpret patents. They would learn how to apply those disciplines in a meaningful way that would allow them to connect the dots of: the value of education, better that the disjointed way those disciplines are now taught.
this seems fake and real at the same time beacause it turns whenever theres a wall its like rc
Please provide link of string in description 😅
That is bloody brilliant!
How to build this: Watch the video "How to build a rubber powered model airplane". The example is similar to the Hanger Rat. Plans for Hanger Rat can be found at outerzone.com. Another good choice at outerzone is Gym Dandy, by Lindstrum.
I am trying to make my own tutorial video but there are already some on RUclips if you search around a bit. Thanks
Can u tell us the exact place to search for
Hola!! que lindo que vuela!! . Alguien que entienda ingles, ¿podría traducirme la parte que habla de la goma?, parece una goma especial. Gracias.
Translate google:
"Hello! How cute it flies !! . Someone who understands English, could you translate the part that talks about the rubber? It looks like a special rubber. Thank you"
put video on how to make this plane please
See WDTA above.
Please can you teach me how to make it make a video

I know what you mean about the weight. I made a super light foam plane. The foam is so light and fragile that it's really hard to work with. Hear it is: ruclips.net/video/AIV7CZnh-Ew/видео.html
Majestic. I've done RC glow, sailplanes, and electric micro. All rewarding but nothing compares to building your own rubber band plane and that moment you pass the one minute mark in flight.
..This was spectacular!!!!
..Please share the detailed plans & name of the materials for this hanger rat 2 free flight model...Thanks! 👌🏼👏🏼👍🏻
Muy bueno felicitaciones , hermosos tus videos....Quiero empezar hacer uno, Me puedes mandar planos o medidas desde ya gracias
How do you do that...please make a tutorial
Nice.
What on earth is that stuff actually called technically?.. "Elastic string"?.. I tried searching for that and couldn't find any. My cat loves it and I want to get some more lol.
Ah, I found some names for it: "FAI Tan Super Sport Rubber" or "rubber motor stock"
Too expensive, think I'll just buy some long elastic bands and tie them together. :)
I'd still like to know if there are any other names for it, surely it's not only used for wind up planes?..
Can you send me a video how to make this plane
when it took off on its own it was like can anything be more beautiful
It's amazing to see! Thanks for commenting :)
hello im very amazed of this..where can I get the pattern how to make this rubber powered plane?

See WDTA above.

WDTA what does it mean?
Collins, see the full comments list. I put an internet address where you can find the plans, or you can use the link provided by Leif Vejby. Download the plan, print it, and enlarge it to get a 20" wingspan The download has only one side of the wing shown. Enlarge your print to make that wing panel 10" long. Build two panels and glue them together to get 20". If you are a beginner model builder, check this video frequently to see how the model is supposed to look when complete. There are similar models shown in construction in other videos so you can get plenty of instruction on RUclips. One thing that is different on the Hanger Rat from most other models is the two wing braces that go from the bottom of the fuselage to the leading edge of the wing. They aren't clear on the plan but, you can see them in this video. The plan doesn't show the propeller installation. You can find how-to on RUclips. You can use a preassembled plastic unit from Sig Manufacturing -- see your local hobby shop, also by mail. Same for the rubber and the winder. Also Peck Polymers, Volare, Easy Built and others.
Awesome video, thanks for sharing
Is it absolutely necessary to use the special rubber? I use normal rubber bands strung together, but can only get flight times of a few seconds or so :(
Hola soy Enzo tengo 12 años en otra oportunidad hice un avión pero nunca tan lindo como este.Qisiera hacerlo para regalarselo a mi padre . Usted podria darme los planos del avion. Muchas gracias , muy bueno el video.
where did u get such long rubber band?
Very nice long time flying rubber band plane. Good job
awesome and spectacular
awesome, its good plane
How can I do this? If you don't mind, I would also like to try it for a project and recreational uses
Why it goes around but not straight?
hi
Can you tell me please about the speed? Thanks in advance. I guess is about 3.6 miles/hour.
The man explains that it is special rubber cut to suitable width and length and you still call it a subber band.
Haha, I know right! It's just for the search engine ;-)
can u tell me how to do.It is amasing
Why didnt you make a how to make video
So where can i buy one of these? 🤔
It is incredible but why isn't there a tutorial? If you can make it for showcase, you can make a tutorial.
Ik this is very late but how did you get the plane to fly I built one but whenever I throw it it just sinks down even with a prop
anyone would tell me how many turns of the rubber we need for this long?
Esta buenisimo tratare de hacer para mis hijos y salir a jugar toda una tarde saludos de chile buen invento y exelente video .dedito para arriva todo el rato 👍😁👍👍👍👍
can you please show how to make it
hello friend where I can buy a rubber winder and I am writing from Venezuela
Check this link out. There are a couple of electric winders here:
www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__581__1184__Planes_Parts-Free_Flight_Models.html
My question: What is that yellow winding tool called, and roughly how much would it cost to purchase one?
Its a rubber winder and is very cheap
no it is just rubber band winded up really long, it has to be very strechty as it needs to not knot up
oh that never mind
It's called a 'winder'. Try a web search.
They're about $20 U.S.
Ya caday bhanato ho videbhanoo
How do you make it go in circles? Do you add weights to one side or make ailerons?
+AxeGames I was wondering the very same thing; knew it would be a simple answer WHEN I knew the answer. Thanks !
