- So this is the long requested follow up to my original Hangar Rat video. Sorry it's not a build tutorial, still working on that, but here is a close up look at one of these amazing home made indoor rubber band powered balsa wood aircraft. Many thanks to Ian, the builder of this particular Hangar Rat, for sharing his enthusiasm for this amazing little plane.

When working in Australia back in the 80's, there was an older gentleman that was selling bunches of these kits at the Australian nationals. A real cross-section of flyers (FF, RC, CL, etc.) built one to fly at a local gym after the day's main events. It was an extremely popular and relaxing event! I was happy to max out a few times even though I had little indoor FF experience. Amazing how a little care in construction can improve your flights!
WOW, unreal flight time, controlled flight, 'round an 'round, climbing, descending then a proper landing, amazing.
Many years ago I recall these were made of light weight balsa wood and light mylar, the rubber motor was available at hobby stores, so you would make own motor. One thing i learned just talking to these hobbyist who built them was that the propeller was also key in making the flight so slow. It was amazing just to watch and see how long the flights could last.

Thanks for the video - Hangar Rats are deliriously good fun - cheap to build, easy to trim,, delightful indoors and out ! Thank goodness for *Outerzone* hosting the plans for free.
Wow ! That's the best flight I have ever seen in 72 years ! Good for you !
Thanks for watching, appreciate the kinds words :)
When I was a child, Brian Wattie showed me how to make this airplane. My friend Bruce Sandborn (deceased) and I made them. We had a little contest, mine flew 56 seconds. I may have been about 10-12 years old.
Amazing experience.
I was hooked for life.
I eventually designed my own rubber powered plane called the Squirrel.
Great story Darcy, thanks so much for watching and commenting :)
Hiiii can you gift me your plan?? pleaseee i promise you i gonna make it
It took off and stayed in the air way beyond my expectations, wow
Amazing, I once saw a high school student fly something similar for a science competition….it was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen!
Yes they are amazing little aircraft! Thanks for watching.
GiantmanSystems can u please explain how to make it step by step
May you please explain how to make it? Pleaseeee
Majestic. I've done RC glow, sailplanes, and electric micro. All rewarding but nothing compares to building your own rubber band plane and that moment you pass the one minute mark in flight.
Так грациозно летает. Чудо какое-то)
Wow. Just found the instructions, a little advanced for me. Although a video tutorial would be great! I hope to make one, thanks.
Where have you found the instructions for this model?
Very nice long time flying rubber band plane. Good job
Well, well, well! None of us kids learned how to wind an rubber band like that when we were young. Great flight and great video, thanks for sharing. Oh, came back to sub and give a high five.

Congratulations, this is the movie about the rat hangar most beautiful ever seen.
clearly shows the operation of the model and its flight, soft and majestic.
I was really amazed with the flight. this movie encouraged me to build a hangar rat to me. I just wonder if I can use as a winder electric Instead of a manual
Thanks - Jerri Aderson - Brazil

That flys for so long
Great job 👍
Thank you sir :)
This is awesome !!!
Just wonderful. You know what grieves me tho.....look at the guys in that gym. ALL old retired guys like me. NO young guys. I fear, when we're gone...this is gone. No screen to stare at. No button called "re-set" if you crash. Gone.
very good balance, very good plane
Beautiful!!. I tried to build the Comet rubber powered kits of the 1940s and never got more han 10 seconds flt time. You have me beat by miles. I love to fly the old timers. They float so nice,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Peter Berard
Cheers, thanks for watching : )
If you look closely at the the vertical stabilizer you will notice a "rudder" which is fixed to turn the plane gently to the right. Thanks for watching!
I have build 80 present copy like that hanger rat , but I didn't find the rubber band😩 but still trying with small combine rubber band . thanks for the design close up 😇
A very good all round RC is the Trophy Truggy Flux. It's not the fastest but it's fast enough and has good traction and can run on many different types of terrain. If you want something more for bashing then look at the Thunder Tiger MT4 G3 which is great value for money, if you can find one. I just got the Apache C1 Flux and really like it too, great scale looks. It's probably not going to be a great basher but still a lot of fun.
design is a genius level
They are amazing little aircraft, thanks for checking out the video and commenting, appreciate it : )
pode me passar as medidas?

Wow it's very beatiful
Happy that you enjoyed it Jerri! I have seen people use electric winders but for some of the serious guys winding by hand is the preferred method. Thanks for watching!

Amazing flight !
SO COOL !
if you want wanna these go to google and type "Balsa wood aeroplane".And yes that is how it is spelled. The cheapest one is $1.98 and works good but sometimes if you snatch it out the air the wings and wood support snap.

stays up for a while!
