That Hugh Downs/ Barbara Walters intro for 20/20 brought chills down my spine. I grew up in the 80's to that watching with my grandmother.
Too bad so many just watched the news instead of getting out there and creating it. She made millions and to transfer on to the next level after doing this one for 90 something years is well nothing to be sad about. Whats with humans thinking "death" is something new?

There are pioneers in television news for women, and then there are PIONEERS. Barbara was an original, who paved the way for many women that followed. I always enjoyed her interviews, many of which were fascinating. May she Rest in Peace.

I remember the wars to try to take her down, and late night comedians making it a punchline nightly. This woman literally kicked down doors. Before her it was an old man's club. Nothing was "handed to her." She may not have had to financially struggle, but she certainly had to fight tooth and nail for YEARS to even get a shot at asking the tough questions!! We lost so many famous people in 2022. One of them was the iconic broadcast journalist "Barbara Walters," she interviewed the most famous and most powerful people in the world. She helped create two of 6abc's top shows, 20/20 & The View. Both of these shows have successful for decades, she has paved the way for other female reporters and her legacy will live on.

May she R.I.P. She was a huge part of my childhood. 20/20 was one of my favorite news shows because of her. Her voice and on-screen presence was inspiring. The questions she asked was informative and felt like real journalism. We don't get much of her kind of journalism today, sadly.

She broke through in journalism when she wasn't allowed to...And she did it with such professionalism, charisma, compassion, legitimacy, & class. Barbara Walters set an example and left that legacy that she spoke that all of the mainstream media needs to work very hard to live up to.
My favorite interview of hers is when she was interviewing Sean Connery about him slappin' some ladies! I wish Sean HAD slapped her into the new decade! You know, like POW! Then old Barb wakes up in the next decade confused as all hell.

In some ways, Barbara Walters reminded me of my grandmother, who was the first woman in the state of Oregon to hold a bartender's license in the 1940s, went to business school, and went into real estate, first in sales, then an agent, then a broker with her own business. She said many times while I was growing up, "I just refuse to make less money than a man."

I loved & respected her for her tenacity to fight so hard in a Mans field & she did it with such grace & wisdom. We have lost another legend. Truly sorry.
I could name several female anchors and reporters at a national level that likely owe a debt of gratitude to Walters for starting what they will continue. Jane Pauley, Elizabeth Vargas , Katie Couric, Deborah Norville, Connie Chung, Diane Sawyer, Gail King, Ann Curry, Gwen Ifill, Judy Woodruff, Savannah Guthrie, Hota Kotb, Robin Roberts, Meredith Viera, Adriana Diaz, Jericka Duncan, Margret Brennan, Norah O’Donnell… The list goes on and on.
And I am absolutely certain that several male reporters were also inspired by Walters. What she did inspired droves of reporters to start telling stories, and ask hard questions. Where the fields of reporting and broadcast journalism are concerned, she is owed a debt of gratitude that all of those in the field can never repay.

@@calhoun24 NBC finally got it right! Rest in Peace, the Beautiful Lady that she was, both inside, and outside. She truly expressed all of the qualities of the phrases " Beauty IS as Beauty Does!" , and as she so eloquently, DID and for, as long as she lived.

Wow! I can’t believe this. She was comfortable to watch. She was so common in my household growing up and watching her interviews. Each time a Hollywood star, news reporter, athlete, Politician, and so on passes away that I’ve known since childhood it reminds of life’s passing TikTok time. It was great knowing her and seeing her report the news and more.
A great mouthpiece for those who run the game.....no tears shed.
