My mother was diagnoses with cancer in the early 80's. After a heroic 3 year battle, she lost the fight. As a teenager, I asked why... all I got was that "God takes beautiful Flowers to his own"

Watch what happens after some catastrophe like a tornado: There will be survivors who say "God saved me" and, when speaking of those who died "God wanted to bring them to him." Perhaps that’s why some are now saying: “We’re living in the final part of the last days, undoubtedly the final part of the final part of the last days, shortly before the last day of the last days!” (Those with a background amongst Jehovah’s witnesses will know specifically who said that.) They’re trying to gin up a renewed sense of urgency for the accomplished end of the present order of things and for Armageddon. Curiously enough, however, they’re also trying to buy themselves even more time by buying and selling real estate, authorizing construction projects, declaring an “overlapping” generation (something exactly as provable as their God-meaning, not at all) of certain members of the faith who see events of the last century or so and “understand their significance”, and the list goes on and on ad infinitum, ad nauseum, world without end, Amen. And, yet, we’re supposed to exercise faith both that there could be (let alone, is) such a thing as God and that we’re living at the end of the present order of things on the portals of a promised New Order, all in vindication of the Name of this alleged God? Oh, please!

I read a book where a young girl is arrested by inquisitors, stripped naked, taken before a crowd of people who quite like her because she's just this sweet young lady that works at a bakery, has knives slice into her back and hands plunged into the wounds, that way the man can pull the skin from her torso, and is then tied to a post and set on fire, slowly burning to death screaming for her parents who are not even in the city as they're still being held in a refugee camp waiting to reunite with their daughter, and finally dies after about half an hour of immeasurable torment. All of this happened because some priest twat in power needed someone to take the fall, and she sent letters to her parents frequently so he just declared this bakery waitress teen girl acquired military secrets and deftly sent them out using the public mail service to this nation's enemies resulting in their recent military losses.
But yeah no, JESUS really had it the worst, totally.
The book is called "Her Majesty's Swarm" by the way, just in case anyone's interested. That pretty much sets the tone for the series, though that's like the most viscerally brutal section. It's in book 3 btw.

the whole story is dumb. let me use an example of 2 men. These both take place say, 1500 years ago. one man is in his early 20s, lives in the mountains with his tribe, and knows nothing of 'God" or "jesus' - they worship the land, and the deities they have relied on to get by from year to year. One year is especially bad, many of the tribe were taken as slaves, and others starved due to poor crops and disease. This 20 year old, is the only survivor of a particularly harsh winter, and decides to search for another village to join - but freezes to death in the snow mid travel.
another man, living in a city, never wanting food or shelter, who enjoys doing bad things to people of the 'less clothing required' type - forcefully -and then kills them, decides he is going to do this to 1 person every year. So from the age of 40 onward, 1 person would be horribly violated, and killed, at his hand. at 60, the man realizes what he has been doing is completely evil, and he should stop, so he does, and then he finds the Bible and God and repents and prays for his soul - because he has tarnished it greatly for the last 20 years, and being 60 now and near end of his life - he is now worried what happens next.
According to the bible. - Man2 - goes to heaven and gets rewarded for living a life of sin and hurting others, but man1 burns in hell, FOR ETERNITY - because he didn't know of God.
how is that anything less than the ramblings of a mad man? If this "god' does exist - and that is how he decides to 'reward' or 'punish' us, by how much we 'worship' him - THAT IS NOT A GOOD BEING. It is selfish and narcissistic, and has no empathy for human life.

10:11 Just imagine how glorious is eternal life with God: you can feel only joy and good things, so you don't need to eat or drink because you can't starve or get thirsty, you can eat if you want but eating your favorite meal doesn't bring you more joy than filling your mouth with dirt. If you were a bodybuilder in your life now you can workout all day forever withot ever feeling tired or like you're making any progress, doing 10 squats makes you feel good or tired exactly as if you do 1000 squats, in fact, you'll be as good as if you don't workout because it can't bring you any benefit of sort, you're already happy and you wouldn't get a greater feeling of accomplishment not even after a full day of training. Meeting with your friends will be pointless because you can't feel sad when they're not around or miss them and they can't feel sad or miss you when you aren't around either, being with them would be exactly as joyful as if you're not with them, you can also have a walk on lava, or jump from a skyscraper if you want to because you aren't only immune to pain but you're also invulnerable and don't feel fear or get scared... still, you'll not experience anything from doing it because at the end you'll be happy has much as if you didn't do it. Thinking about the loved ones that didn't make it to "Heaven" will be meaningless because you can't feel sad or cry and so you'll don't just feel nothing for the dear ones that you'll never see again (there can't be apathy in "Heaven", so you can't even have neutral feelings), but instead you'll feel happy about them burning in Hell and rejoice their absence. You'll never laugh at a joke anymore because you'll always be laughing in the land of neverending joy, probably at this point if there's still a sparkle of sanity in your mind you end up realizing that your Heaven is in fact a nightmare and your god is most probably an eldritch horror that is feeding on your insanity, but you can't find the strenght to care about it, what you care now is dopamine hits, just dopamine hits, forever.
