Very exciting sailing, you are very skilled and I am sure it was 30 knots. It would be a bit dodgy without a safety boat. I find the waves intimidating on the bar with just a F4.

Since I posted my original comment that you replied to, I searched more and found this, www.newtosailing.com/classes/list.asp?type=beginner all beginner training sailboats compared in one place. How nice!! I also found that owning a boat isn't the same as owning a bicycle, I'll have to consider the cost and the time of transportation, storage etc in the calculation. Cost-wise, Opti doesn't seem like the least expensive option as new but maybe as a used boat because it's kinda outdated and trend is moving away from it. I think I'd better join a club and ask questions to other members. I'm 135lbs, so the weight(size) isn't a issue with any of the boat on the list above.
allgoo19 Hmm, since you are 65 kilo-ish you might wanna look more at the Laser 4.7. Might be a challange at first and seem expensive, but a really nice thing with the laser is that it is nearly indestructable and you only need to change the lower mast pice and the sail when moving to the Radial or Standard. I know people who sail with 35 years old lasers that just been lying around at their summer place the past 25 years and after 20 mins of changing some old parts work just fine. Also lasers are really challenging boats to preform in and many Olympic stars have been sailing them as kids and do sail those as "secondary" boats as well. If you find a club who focuses on traning 4.7s even on newby levels id say definately go for that, but be careful for stronger breezes in the beginning ;)
SportSoulLife Thanks for the reply. I'm already having fun by looking into all the specs and deciding which one even though I may never even buy one. I kinda count out the Laser because it's not the most compact or least expensive, and the way I see it, it's little outdated like Opti. So far, I'm looking to RS Tera and Topaz Taz. Their easy recovery feature(righting?) in case of capsizing is appealing to me. The closest sailing school from where I live uses Tera for the beginner in the class. I may end up going that route, if I'm not too embarrassed by being surrounded by little kids.
allgoo19 Laser is indeed a really outdated boat, but because of that its more challenging ;) Im not a fan of the RS boats (but im propably just a bit "spoiled" since im taking sailing so seriously as a sport) but if thats what there is then go for it. Recovering a boat from a capsize is mostly pretty easy after youve done maybe 15 successful ones, unless you are going out with more extreme boats like the 29er or 49er. Laser is as i said cheap in the long run and if you are planing to just go sailing like as a summer hobby id try to find an second hand laser. Youll be suprised how many years those boats are sailable. When i started sailing i started with the clubs optimists for 3 years, when i realised how serious im getting about this sport i bought myself a old zoom8, and after than a new Laser radial+standard and am crewing an 29er. Im going for the 49er this season. But yeah if the club has boats that you can train with or kind of rent for trainings a season you should definately go for that.
I just got the coolest idea EVER. We shall try to put some foils, a wingsail (ridicously big), a code zero and some wings (like the moth or skiffs have) on a opti :DD
Why add that tired-azz noise you call (cough cough) music? We are watching a sailing video, not a concert! But at least here's a thumb up to the sailor for not capsizing.
Wow I would not have thought that possible! That kid is a natural born sailor for sure. Thanks for posting.
Amazing!!! Cheers from Brazil!!

never thought id see and optimist go past 3
Felicitaciones, no cualquiera hace eso, lo maximo con lo que navegue son rachas de 23 nudos y soy princi
Is opti easy to start and learn, budget-wise and learning curve-wise for a beginner?
Is it better than other options like Sunfish, Laser or Open bic?

Here's a joke for you guys! Extreme optimist sailing.
Charles Kreuzkamp bro don’t talk shit
not sure but have u ever been sailing optimist?
I wonder what his speed actually did get up to? 30 knots of wind is really moving, but the hull, and rig of an optimist can go only so fast eh?
Great ride, where was it shot?

Hey! Where’s the rest of the fleet?
Okey, I didn't know that, thanks for the information! :)
but i was talking about the 29er, not the 49er!
good job!
In USA and maybe other parts of the world its pronounced Opti, but in UK/Ireland and maybe some other places we say Oppie.
@LUCASgProductions i agree with you its and optimist not an oppie
sitting still in 30 knots of wind. not bad.
Actually that is bad
Hi he did 30 knots
Woohoo !
This sailing boat is called "Optimist"
The 49er is able to make 39 knots, but they haven't made over 25 yet :/
and yet they still don't go over :/
look like some rough seas for chastise rig.
ppppft, is that your grandma sailing your boat? that isnt 30 knots
The problem is that not even a 29er can reach 30knt!
That does not look like 30+ knots, a lot harder than that. Maybe 18
Top Speed?
In Gran Canaria de na
insane!
30 knots of wind
and i just told that the 49er is able but not the 29er
Dang!
18 knots max.
i know what 30 knots is in auackland it probly be about 25 if it was in haraky golf
is like surfing
so is this the fastest an ice-chest or bathtub has ever moved. if so i suggest that everybody should start sailing real boats
Have you ever sailed idiot it’s an opti it so post to look like that
lol i snapped my mast in this kind of wind
nice!
ill have to agree, thats not 30knots, not even close, 18knots top
Yeah but an Aussie 18 ft skiff will
Why add that tired-azz noise you call (cough cough) music? We are watching a sailing video, not a concert!
But at least here's a thumb up to the sailor for not capsizing.
i sail in the brigantine bay, hardcore lol
That is not even Close to 30 knots.
God
the vid could use a betta cameraman
Me Is optimist
hailing island sailing club
your going to need to bail alot i guess
30 knots and the oppie is still slow as hell
Not 30 knots. about fucken 15 at the most
30 knots and the oppie is still as slow as hell
20 - 25 Knots
28
Wery big wawe
Light* not harder :P
hahaha, we all know the title is misleading, an optie struggles to go 10 knots
that's 20knots, 25 with all the wrath, but that DOES NOT reach 30knots =/
Massa
Barış Senmisin Lan Bu :D
Thats awsome but does not look like 30kns maby 20kns nothing more

и 10-ти узлов нету!)))
THIS IS A FUCKING OPTI NOT AN OPPIE AN OPPIE IS THE SAME BOAT WITH FOILS
Are you actually stupid?
what's the big deal he's only reaching
Fake title
if that was 30 knots ur optimist would be getting swamped by waves
thats 15 knots or something like that... sooo fake and bade -.-
That grammar is so bade
jezz stop critesising that
The spelling is rael right now
sooooo fake
