I like that his mother understands him so deeply. It must have taken a lot of effort to gain so much knowledge about his condition. This could be taken for granted but I think it's not so obvious.

"he knows what to achieve but his ability to show you what he achieved is difficult" . Couldn't agree more. I love painting and drawing, always had a huge ideas in my head, but my motoric skill couldn't achieve it. As a result, now I'm improving my writing, which need less motoric skills. Sometimes, I feel frustated.

I feel the same way, I am really into making art and being creative because my imagination runs rampant, but I don't have the co-ordination to achieve what I want to do to a quality that I feel proud of... People tell me just to practice heaps, but its like my muscles dont remember the skills that I practice so I don't get any better :P

Everyone can be an artist if you just believe in yourself. It only has those limits and boundaries if you set them upon yourself. In order to maintain an artist and do exstotinary unique work you have to go beyond society's standards

I was diagnosed with Dyspraxia in primary school, and as I have gone through education and since becoming a teacher myself; I have learnt many strategies to cope. Organisation, Social Interaction, Sensory Information, and Cognitive Functions are all factors which can lead to confusion, frustration, stress or tiredness. I am use to monitoring the impact it has, and change things if needed. Dyspraxia is a interesting condition and often occurs in highly intelligent people.

Im dyspraxic and I was wondering if other people who have been diagnosed also deal with muscle memory issues like I do. So an example would be: I learnt to ride my bike at the age of 10, and after a few years the bike was too small and I never ended up getting another one, but now im 20 and its like ive forgotten how to ride one completely, as if I never learnt in the first place. Same deal with swimming, I used to have lessons and be one of the strongest swimmers I knew, and now I can barely keep myself afloat while out of my depth.

I have memory issues in terms of short-term memory, but I am sure if I tried to ride a bike again, I wouldn't have a problem, so I don't have issues with that. I rode a bike about 2 years ago, it was only a challenge for a couple of minutes. However, I have a very hard time following yoga type moves, doing basketball lay-ups, and gauging where a ball is going to land when playing volleyball.

I had to get to a therapist and she helped me deal with it, she always asked me to run around and I loved it! I also joined yoga to try help me relax..it didn't really work XD, I have trouble falling asleep at night. Like if you also have dyspraxia.

      1) Hello fellow Irish person! {Is from Wexford}
      2) Something you said there seems a bit off.. "Dyspraxia is what makes me, me!", I don't have dyspraxia myself, but I find it silly that you'd say something like that. Your (in lack of better word) problem shouldn't be the thing that represents you. Dyspraxia *doesn't* make you yourself, It's actually *you* !
Your dyspraxia is one of the reasons you act the way you do, but it shouldn't be the only thing that you feel makes you, you. I have anxiety and mild depression but those don't make me, me.
If your dyspraxia is *actually* what makes you, you then you need to rethink some things..

I was diagnosed with dyspraxia from the age of 4 or 5 as in nursery I'd have no spacial awareness what so ever like I would be in the classroom but I'd be literally sitting on people's laps or just really really close to them. It got so bad one boy got really annoyed at me and pushed me off the climbing frame. In my early primary years I used to get in trouble a lot for staring out of the window, not paying attention and just overall lack of communication with the teachers and this was all due to my dyspraxia. Like the women said in the video about her son that people would just look at him and go oh what's wrong with him that's like me now. When I was younger I took these classes called Beams which helped with my coordination now I'm 15 and I'm no way near as bad as I was just have the odd lack of concentration and my organisation is so out its rubbish to be honest. I just have to accept that I have it and move on you know? People with dyspraxia are just like others, no different so don't think you are. We are as capable as anybody else.

What I hate as a parent is how, my sons primary school let this go by for 7 years, he wasn't bullied, apparently he was the antagoniser, after first year at high school, he was shouted at by teachers, considered lazy, and annoying to other classmates, I didn't understand how he suffered in English with a teacher he didn't like, but achieves 90+% in French and Spanish, I'm dont agree that memory suffers with dyspraxia, my sons can remember a pack of cards, he can remember everything, good and bad, worst time is nights, when he can't sleep, I would like a idea to help him get rest so he can grow. you can be what you want to be #nevergiveup.
The school has now recognised dyspraxia may be the cause for his bad writing in second year, but they need help and support on this, by the time this comes, it could be 3rd year, and only a year from exams, what the fk has the primary school been doing.

Please, don't give up! Accept yourself the way you are. Tomorrow's another dawn, another day. You're very young. The whole life before you. You just need to find yourself in the world. Slowly, lots of things will come and enrich your life. Do not lose hope and believe in yourself. You feel lonely and that worsens your situations. One good friend could completely change the way you see the things now. There are people somewhere in the world who you'd be good friends with.

Our son who's fast approaching 40 now, was never formally diagnosed with dyspraxia but as a child he had bad co-ordination, couldn't concentrate, was a dreamer in class and was pretty much in a different world. He could work things out mentally but terrible at writing things down. He did very badly at school. I read about an institue in Chester which helped children like him. Well he went to a therapist (I had to pay) for around a year. She made him do some very strange exercises, very slow and deliberate. She asked if he crawled as a baby, no he didn't and this apparently is very important for co-ordintion etc. It all sounded mumbo jumbo to do with shutting off different stages of development before moving on and he hadn't done that. Anyway to cut a long story short, it worked. He went from not reading at all to a couple of books a month. He could thrash across the swimming pool but couldn't do his arms and legs at the same time, he could after the treatment. His writing improved along with his co-ordination. At one stage before this happened I believed he would be unemployable but he left school and worked for a few diffent companies with no problems. He also passed his driving test at 17 another thing at one time, I never thought possible.

    • @Bazza5000
      @Bazza5000 5 лет назад +2

I think you may have taken your son to an institute that used the "Dore Program" that teaches certain exercise to train the cerebellum. Well, we are not exactly sure what causes dyspraxia, but certain physical exercises are said to help. The brain can be changed. What we do know is that like with ADHD, people with dyspraxia often have problems like having a leaky gut, omega 3 deficiencies, vitamin E deficiencies, and in need of certain exercises to help re-train their brain. Not everyone's the same. I wish I had some institute like that I could go to growing up to help me with my dyspraxia, but there was nothing like that for me growing up. However, my writing has improved, I am working on exercising to help my balance, I am watching my diet etc... The exercises you had your son do was so great for him. I wish I had access to something like that growing up.

As someone who has dyspraxia I actually find this video extremely offensive. Yes, it is informative and the symptoms mentioned were accurate however I feel people’s opinions on dyspraxia goes between two extremes. People either know nothing about it and refuse acknowledge it or see it as a major issue that will always massively impact the individual’s life, this is incorrect. I did dance, swimming and cycling as a child, had one of the best balances out of all my peers, achieved 10 GCSEs, have a fast-paced job where I am constantly busy multitasking and I am now confidently working through my a-levels.
My parents thankfully treated me the same as every other child and I excelled. I had one teacher in primary who treated me as if I had a serious problem and to be honest I hated her and that period of my life which I still find difficult to look back on as I felt like a test subject. I was bullied and singled out because of how one teacher treated me.
I don’t need special treatment, I need help when I feel it’s necessary. I can learn like anyone else, I just take slightly longer. I don’t needed to be treated like I have some sort of stress or anger issues, I am human being not my disability (or whatever else you wish to call it). And I am definitely NOT HANDICAPPED! The fact that term was even mentioned in this video frankly disgusts me. That derogatory word should NEVER be used to describe anyone in my opinion.
I am just me... I am not my dyspraxia.

I agree, but obviously it is different for other people. My little brother has dyspraxia and it does affect him quite a lot, seeing as he has a problem with his eyes aswell. All schools should have an understanding of dyspraxia or dyslexia by realising that its something that your born with but some teachers and parents are so ignorant that they are the problem not the child but many dyspraxic or dyslexic children become very successful in adult life we all have strengths and weaknesses never be angry with someone whose cordinaition or literacy is not as good as someone else's because they will be exceptional at other things

I have dyspraxia but i dont have any motor inabilities im very good at hurling which is an irish sport which involves very good hand-eye co-ordination and also good at catching rugby balls. Im fairly shy for a 15 year old but can still socialise fairly well and i dont talk out loud but I don’t have any routines and can ignore instructions fairly easily and also getting up early for a match or school can be hard because i am very tired and dont listen well but im slowly getting better at that. Another problem with my dyspraxia is that i also have dysgraphia so i type on a keyboard but really that doesnt hold me back because i learnt to type very fast and can type faster than writing which helps with tests. But if you think if you have dyspraxia you should get a test quicker than you think and you shouldnt wait because the more time you dont get help the more you will fall behind because thats what started happening to me but now im ahead in school so really do think about getting a test.

Hi. I'm from Romania, my son seems to have the same problems. Here there is no help that we can get, save for their saying that "he's lazy" and so on. I've seen your video and I am so very interested in finding the pencil grabs you showed on the video that you use for helping your child with writing. This is a big problem with my son, and as you said he is becoming frustrated seeing he cannot do it. Could you please let me know where can I find such pencil grabs? Many thanks in advance.

Thank you for your comments, that is helping me greatly to realize exactly what we are dealing with and what to expect. Course us parents find ourselves stressed depressed as well. We work together. I am like stressed to be on end. And depressed. I believe I am trying to do this all by myself and realizing it’s not working. but with my grandson who is nine who has been diagnosed with apraxia of speech and dyslexia. He has flunked kindergarten he still cannot read a little bit of writing. Maybe that’s it. I just need help with the court. He’s got to know every single thing I’m saying what am I going to do? Who are you talking to? What are we going to do today. He has got to have his nose into everything I’m doing. He cannot stand not knowing, he gets very unhappy and bothered. almost as if he thinks he’s got to be the adult. He’s having trouble finding his way and I’m finding it very hard to lead. Someone please help me. Online anything does not help. Hands-on is always the most in at most best way of anything.

I am SEVERELY dyspraxic. So bad that at the age of 10 it was suggested that I should go to special school. I'm depressed all the time as I cannot do anything, I try and try and fail. I hate this condition and only as an 18 year old at university I am tired of life already this is horrible condition. It's affects are the worst-I have poor social skills (no friends) Extremely low self es stem and confidence should I end it all?

Hi, have you thought about integrating primitive reflexes exercises? These have proved very successful for my child. Her frustration levels, her physical abilities, her coordination, and her social skills have all improved greatly. Some professionals believe dyspraxia is due to infantile reflexes not being integrated into the brain at the correct time, and that this is what causes all the symptoms of dyspraxia.

@youdickhed I'm the same, my counsellor thinks I may be dyspraxic but I'm certainly not as bad as this kid because I've managed to get quite far without any sort of diagnosis and I think my problem has only come out under a lot of pressure and now that I'm 22. I think it's interesting that two people who are potential dyspraxics both have awesome youtube handles.

Going to get an official disgnosis soon. Can't wait, because it will stop be getting shouted at when I don't change fast enough for PE, or when I'm not working fast enough for FT.
I am super clumsy, can't ride a bike or skii and I struggle to tie shoelaces. Teachers are always shouting at me to go faster, or to do as they say, but when the school gets emailed, I will have things such as extra time to change in PE and not get debited because I'm not whisking fast enough or something.
I get very annoyed when people think I'm dyslexic, I'm not. Obviously, for some people the coordination affects their writing and drawing, but for me it's practical tasks. I have always been clumsy and 100% NOT diy... never thought there was a reason.

I have dyspraxia But it doesn’t really affect me much negatively in my primary school because there’s only 28 of us in my year but I’m going too high school next year and I’m going up from 28 in my year too 200 and I’m scared because some teachers won’t understand my dyspraxia, I had a sub teacher that was like that and I came home crying every day.
The ways my dyspraxia affects me is I am fidgety and I move around a lot my hand writing is messy and almost unreadable sometimes I am awful at shooting in sports or any racket sports I couldn’t tie my school tie or shoe laces until I was 10 and I’m clumsy and I have trouble sleeping at night
I participate in alot of sports (swimming netball football)because I have a lot of Energy even though I never try too score (i usually play centre in netball and defence in football)
I’m happy with my dyspraxia and it makes me, me

As for the meal thing, I also used to be the same, I hated trying anything new, and I hated it when different foods on my plate touched each other. im 20 now and I seem to have grown out of the food thing, however im still a fussy eater.

What the woman said about making choices really rang true with me and my wife because if we give my son a choice theres times where he just kicks off because its 2 much for him! People that havent seen it firsthand cant understand properly how hard it is! Anyone else know what i mean?

I know a kid in my school who seems to love to annoy people and if you get mad he just laughs or smiles and keeps doing it. At one point he kept pulling my hood over my head and I shoved him cause it got really annoying and his facial expression was really weird and too weird to describe. He did that to other kids too. but in class he is annoying to other kids and I noticed when other kids are writing he has only written 4 or 5 words while other kids have written nearly a paragraph(in about 2 minutes). He also holds his pencil weird and takes forever to write and or type. When he walks his feet are crooked and he also makes loud sudden outbursts at inappropriate times that he thinks are funny but other kids laugh with pity. Do you think this kid has Dyspraxia? I'm worried cause I don't want someone to hurt him because they don't know or don't care that he has a mental illness.

I would add (as somebody who works with children with disabilities and so acts as their advocate), how are they ever supposed to be treated as equal members of society and their struggles taken seriously when even their mothers are still using the derogatory term 'handicapped' ?!?!

      >@cw cw...there are two dys persons in my home, my husband and son, neither are classed as 'handicapped or disabled'.......son is attending regular college...I despise the term handicap... as this denotes an old image of beggars on the streets with cap in hand... such kids and adults do not need such horrific judgement... it a cure were to be found tomorrow...my two men would not tke it, as they are happy and content in themselves... I believe that the real problem lays with societies perception of dyspraxia

Yes, she shouldn't use the word handicapped. Dyspraxia is seen as a learning disability, but calling someone handicapped doesn't fit, and simply calling someone "disabled" doesn't work for dyspraxia because that usually denotes someone with a visible handicap. There is a physical disability involved, of course, but it's not the same as being handicapped, and you don't want to say that about your child as that could lead to self-esteem problems/issues.

Please Help them wish I took learning seriously as a Child. Please protect them they get bullied in school and teachers never take their sides. My advice is make sure you listen to your support teacher and tell them what affects you. I was bullied and still am as an adult. People with dyspraxia or any form of disabilities are vulnerable to abuse. I mean emotional and people who take advantage we are nice people and people take liberties. If you have a friend to talk to it’s good have someone that cares about you just remember there are other people who are worse than you. Be strong.
I really feel that one with dyspraxia should have support teacher social worker
And at least she a therapist to help with the emotional side.
We are so nice people and other people hurt us it’s hard as long as you have a friend or someone to support you. I know it’s hard just ignore bullies it’s unfair teachers let them get away with it.
