Thanks for all the work you put into making this video! Your cast of producers were really good sports with great ears for the audible differences between all 5 mics.
Thank you so much for doing this extensive cross-blind-test! With so many voices and microphone techniques, it is really easy to choose the microphones one likes best. I really appreciate the many work you did put into making this video, so liking it is a no brainer for me! As for my comment: It took me quite some time to listen and listen again to this video, to be able to hear enough differences, to make up my Mind about all the microphones. That's why i didn't write before. This being said, let me give you my thoughts about the microphones tested. Neewer NW800 I'd say calling it's sound brittle sums it up. The Highend is horrible and i notice its lacking of lower mid response and especially bass response. The only thing that saves the NW800, is it's price tag. Yes, it is inferior to all the other microphones. that much is obvious. Not talking about the price i'd give it a 3/10. But even relative to its price, i'd give it no more than a 4/10. Neumann KMS 105 For the longest time, i didn't know what to think about it. Especially with the postprocessing you had to do on the sound, I don't know, if I'm too harsh on it, but at first, it sounded too dark for me. Then I realized, it was almost scooped, because the highend is actually there. And especially, when Jesus actually worked the microphone really good, i noticed, that it was pretty much just the post processing and partly not using the microphone correctly, that made the microphone sound so weird on some voices. Its good. But not my taste. I'd give it a 5/10. AKG P420 It is very similar to the NT1, but didn't pack the punch in terms of the low frequency response, that the NT1 has. The P420 is clearer as well. I can see why many people prefer this sound and for that I'd have to give it even a similar rating. But in the end, It's a matter of personal preference and mine considered, i give the AKG P420 a 7/10. ASTON Spirit I cannot take Caroline in to consideration here, as too much of the clips of hers on this microphone were simply too far away or not facing the microphone. And interestingly enough, it really comes close to my personal preference, the RODE NT1, tho i am not as parcial on how the Spirit portrays the voices. The NT1 feels just smoother overall. But that's complaint on a very high level, which is why the Spirit, for me is still a 7.5/10 RODE NT1 Very smooth sounding, to my ears well rounded microphone. This is what sums up the NT1. It's why i actually really like the NT1 and for the longest time, I have been on the verge of actually getting myself one, even tho its not the best for my use case. I really like it's warmth. It has the best bass response out of all the microphones in this comparison, and mind you i don't talk about it being the strongest. It's just very nice to listen to. I actually liked Caroline's voice the most on this microphone, even tho she didn't like it. And it goes on and on - On all the voices in this blind test, i liked the NT1 the best - which goes to show how much i like the Sound of the NT1. This is why I give it an 8/10.
Nice observations! Glad to know that someone is out there defending the Nt1 even though it didn't perform well in these blind tests haha, I still love it all the same. And you're a natural at rating, makes me want to do a subscriber version haha
Cool video! They were very different mics, no surprise it was easy. I was kind of surprised how the NT1 was underrated. I just love that one. You should've put a TLM103 in comparison with the NT1. They do sound really close. Also If you've got access to U87 and the original NT1 which was a complete replica of the U87, maybe a 214 with a 414. Also could do it with clone mics with the same capsule. It'd be very interesting.
I would love to do all of those! I have access to a u87, but the issue is due to covid studio policy doesn't allow vocals. Which has been really rough actually, I would love to do a high end version of this test, but I need to find the mics. A 414 and a TLM 103 are both on the list of mics I want to get in the future, hopefully I have the ability to display them on the channel one day :)
Such a good job Ricky!! I am stunned that 3 people were able to guess 100% right. Maybe you should teach us what in the heeeeck they are actually listening to and for in order to dissect it like that. Your personality shines like normal, great job. You said this was a lot of work, well I want to say thank you and that I am grateful for your effort with this. It really opened my eyes, an now I have more questions than answers - plus a new mic to check out. Big thumbs up 👍👍👍
Hey Peter thank you so much! You leave the nicest comments :) honestly each producer had about 5 minutes with the mics before this, and from that they got them all! Really surprised me too. They focused a lot on high end stuff, like sibilance and mouth noises, which in this case really helped them I believe.
@@AudioHaze Thanks Ricky! I'm 68 (at the OTHER end of the life timeline) where you and your group of friends are on the beginning side of that line. Somehow I got it into my head I wanted to leave something behind (I don't have kids, PS If your parents aren't proud as heck of you there's screw loose somewhere lol) so I did what any 68 year old that wanted to be a "star" at 20 does - I made a CD album lol. First one I ever made. So from June till now I made 11 songs, sang them, learned how to work Logic, mixed them, and ordered some CDs from Oasis in New Jersey. So what did YOU do this afternoon ha ha. I bought and returned a dozen mics (not really, maybe 5) and you know who I learned an awful lot from??? YOU!!!! So when I say I am grateful to you I am not kidding, not even an inch! You have no idea how much I learned from you young man. You DO matter and you make a difference - at least to me, you need to know that and to hear that. I have a YT channel too and I know the cycle of feelings that come with the stuff you have to do over and over and over and over. You have discipline even when you think you don't, and you have something to say even when you think you don't, and you have people you will never meet who love you - even when you think you don't!! Okay, I DO have to say my album sounds just like a first album attempt would. Embarrassing :) The more I hear it the more I hear mistakes now and I cringe and I am ready to run and hide somewhere lol. But it is what it is. I am not a singer, maybe a lower end of "middle of the road" (which is probably why a singing career never did happen) and I do have the most beautiful pile of rejection letters and "returned" demo cassettes you ever saw lol. When I watched this video I didn't realize it, but the mouth noises and S sounds (can't type or even say that word) are one of my biggest unconquered foes. And they are wonderfully documented in my new CD ha ha. Keep the faith Ricky, be open to God's direction in your life bud - but even if you don't believe in anything but your own self, I will add and keep you in my own prayers because I really hope and pray for God's bestest ever blessings on you! :) Oh, go to my channel and on any of the latest videos I have my email there, send me your address (yes I am safe, I hardly even drive (but I LOVE the Tesla heh heh) the car anymore lol, plus I am a RUclipsr too so I understand the privacy rules) and when I get the box of CD's from Oasis I will send you one as a gift. It isn't much of a gift I know lol, and it's a Christmas album (but of course lol) and please NO laughing or critiquing - I already know it is embarrassing, but for me - at least I tried :) Thanks Ricky!
I'm leaving a comment just to help. Thanks for the videos. Your channel is amazing and is really helping me. Is this the first brazilian comment to your videos? I hope so, it would be funny. See you
Great video as always Ricky! you should totally get a Neat Worker Bee, so many people compare it to much more expensive mics so it would prob be a good replacement for the crappy nw800
Im leani g toward nt1 for the low noise floor, flat response, less crispiness than nt1a and some others. But until i record my own voice singing and recording my furch acoustic i guess theres just no way to tell what will be best (im guessing a small condenser 184 copy and nt1 separated). Fingers crossed. Suggestions requested

Theses are so much fun. All the producers were such characters.
Thanks man! Need to squeeze some more of these episodes out before I head back to the states :)
Seth exactly looks like Arijit Singh ( One of the Best Indian Singer ) after blindfolding ha ha ha....Great Video entertaining and knowledgable too

I just discovered this video a few months late, funny content! The KMS105 has become my favorite for singing.
Yeah this an oldie but a goodie! Definitely got to make a new version of this in the new style/room
The "OY PUTA" got me lol
I'm leaving a comment just to help. Thanks for the videos. Your channel is amazing and is really helping me.

Thats not a bad idea! I'd need to buy one though haha, I need to figure out my next purchase anyways
Good episode. Plenty of on and off camera presence, it felt less like a test more like hanging out.
Yeah thats definitely the goal, informative but also just like you're hanging out playing games :)
It's great af keep it coming 💙💙
Thank you so much :)
Jesus whistle laugh though 😂😂😂
ikrrrr, he's gold on camera

There was so much I didn't include oh my god. The clipping dude. The clipping.
