Loving your vids. I agree quarm and P99 are indeed striving for a different experience so can’t really say objectively one is better than the other. Btw, I did play a shammy alt years ago on live and loved it and yes they are phenomenal soloists, although I would contend that they aren’t quite as good as necros and necros aren’t quite as good as the all time champion of soloing-Enchanters, bar none.
I still think Necromancers are better than Enchanters because they have self heals, feign death, and don't really have to worry about their pets killing them anytime they go afk for 2 minutes. I know that in theory Enchanters can do more epic stuff, and can solo things that Necromancers never could, but for casual grinding / farming, I have an easier time on my necromancer. I feel like Shaman is so expensive to reach the same level of lethality that most players are better off leveling a necromancer first. A level 60 necromancer can run around naked and still solo a lot of stuff. A level 60 Shaman on the other hand probably needs Torpor and Epic at a minimum. If you are one of those true min max Shamans then you'll probably want a Fungus Tunic, JBB, fungus staff etc. Just a really expensive class for us poor folks 😜 I also feel like I work a lot harder when I play my Shaman compared to playing my necromancer. But don't get me wrong; Shaman is still my favorite class. Edit: Also even Shaman DoT spells are ridiculously expensive at 50+.
P99 is a launch themed titanium verson of eq. @@dessius It is pretty rare to find yourself in too many group situations where you aren't going to be main healer, or at least slower. Most of your melee chances are going to come from soloing and small grouping with a fear kiter. Sitting for mana (untill canni dancing makes it even more annoying) is going to be far too common, even as an ogre, once you start hitting the teens.
Mostly you're going to be buffing, main healing if no cleric, spot healing if cleric, and dotting wmp. Shaman can solo pretty well all the way up, but they don't become one of the best in class until you have Torpor at 60 and utility gear like JBB. On Quarm these items a more common and lower price points than I've seen on P99 due to respawn speed being increased by 2-2.5x. Quarm is awesome! I played a warrior and chanter into their 50s on P99. I haven't logged into P99 since day 1 of Quarm.
P99 is better imo. The reason the game is good is because it tries to be a sim. This gets devalued when custom content instances are introduced. The problem both servers have is endless content online that explains everything. A big part of the sim experience is discovery, which is mostly lost 15 years into EQemu servers. I was forced to connect with members of my class in game to figure the things out that I couldn't on my own. I suppose EQ is just something different now. That being said, the game has nostalgia value and is great for new players that don't have everything committed to memory. It will hold your hand less than most other games out there.
I think i prefer Quarm. I actually prefer the luclin models. And the future expectation being able to see luclin again is nice. P99 nerfed most quests so the only way to level is straight grinding. Still fun tho you cant go wrong with either
both quarm and p99 are both WAY different than how classic actually was, including mob spawn points, paths, and behavior. Sadly we will never get to experience it again.

Things like the compass are the types of things that slowly made the game worse. Sure it is nice to have for navigating but what is the point of having a skill called sense heading? P99 and our memories from that era are directly corelated to the difficulty of it. With each expansion they just kept getting rid of so much that is became watered down.
I think when they first added the compass you had to have sense heading maxed out, or at least high, in order for it to work properly. If you had low sense heading it would just keep spinning.

It can be troublesome to get the music to play properly for Everquest. It was designed for a specific soundfont that one of the sound blaster cards used back then, so music gets all wonky with the default soundfont that Windows uses now.
I tried out quarm, the problem is once the nostalgia wares off you realize it's just one giant LFG waiting room with way too many rules. I prefer live servers, specifically mischief, the quality of life improvements like pick zones allow you to actually play the game, instead of waiting to join a group. Also the hate for boxing doesn't make sense, you become 100% reliant on others to do anything in the game.
The biggest problem with boxing is that it takes it from sometimes being hard to find a group, to almost never being able to find a real group. If you let players do everything themselves, they’ll always choose that over grouping. Unless they absolutely have to, ie: raids.
@@EXP_Jenova Yea i get that but when you pick a class like warrior or rogue you can't solo and level yourself up. This is something that WOW got right, allow every class to solo up to a certain point, but still have content that requires a group.
I've dabbled in Mischief (76 monk) and have a few 115 chars on live, definitely a more self-sufficient experience which I appreciate in times where I don't have a lot of time to commit to the game. I do personally like the contrast of also relying on others as well. I think playing a necro on P99 is a nice blend of both the self-sufficiency yet also cooperation with other players.
@@dessius Relying on others to raid and do harder content is fine, but just to personally progress your character is dumb. The game developers realized this flaw which is why things like mercs and balance change AA's were added. The P99 thinking is dated.
Sup dude. I play on official server EQ, Agnarr server. Its locked at planes of power also and did the whole project quarm style progression, along with true box, which means one account = one computer and broadcasting software is not allowed. It is a pay to play server but it helps the developers, people that have been around working on the game for over 20 years, so I dont mind paying. The pay wall or whatever you want to call it keeps the server pretty drama free. I have tons of alts and currently lead a guild there called Adventure Time. We are still going strong clearing Time, Ldons and all kinds of older content. Any way.....I just wanted to say thank you for making EQ content!
I'd say it's about the same as live was. It's definitely harder to solo if you didn't start when EQ launched and there was cheaper, more powerful gear to be had to help out with the leveling. Having a 5 dmg weapon well into your 30s makes the leveling insanely hard as compared to getting 8-12 dmg weapons that you'd have in Kunark and Velious.
I've played on P99 for 10 years and never even had a warning or a negative experience with a player. I played on Quarm for 2 weeks and got banned while I wasn't even online because the mods are incompetent. Instead of admitting that they messed up they attacked me and threatened me with legal action and lawsuits when I made a RUclips video explaining my side of the story. There's a reason why you never see negative videos about Quarm. They will instantly be taken down because Secrets lies about having copyrights to EverQuest. These eventually get over-turned since he is lying, but then he threatens legal action. It's happened to dozens of people I know. So yeah, I will stick with P99. Actually having more fun playing on Blue than I ever had in the 10 years I played on P99 because most of the content that is fun solo challenge content is wide open right now.
but secrets has demonstrated in the past that they are such a stable / reliable / capable person. WHAT A SURPRISE that they completely changed into this narcissist megalomaniac overnight! /s
If only I could play EverQuest on a controller with proper support (which should be very possible these days) I would probably be able to actually appreciate EverQuest as a game much more than currently…..then again I also think that there is no reason that EverQuest shouldn’t be ported to consoles since even the Switch is way more powerful than what EQ came out on back in the day or what it takes to run it now.
I would love to play EQ on the controller!! I had an addon for WoW where I could use one and it was really satisfying. I'm sure someone could figure it out lol

Quarm is the same as every other EQ server to exist.. if you missed the initial rush to the top... you're wasting your time. I have a 25 cleric on Quarm right now... hasnt had a group in over 2 weeks.. because I have ONE camp thats A - Populated and B - is in my level range. Unrest Fireplace. So my ONLY fucking option is to log in.. and sit.. and stare.. and wait.. and hope that the cleric currently AT fireplace leaves, and I can take his spot. The bottom line is.. this isnt 1999 anymore, I got shit to do, and at 45 years old, I have ZERO desire or interest to sit and stare at my computer screen doing fuck all for hours on end. Too many GOOD MMO's on the market where anyone can log in and engage in group or solo play and have FUN. PS - PLEASE spare me the canned boomer bullshit responses of "FoRm YeR oWn GrOuPz!" Theres nobody to form a group WITH. The whole PROBLEM is there is ONE ZONE populated.. Unrest. Thats it. Most days there's BARELY enough people there to fill the zone.. which has 4 camps X 6 people each. Yeah yeah I know.. "I WAS THERE YESTERDAY AND THERE WAS 234098732498573249857234095873497503245 people online omg noob!" /eyeroll whatever You're lying. Stop talking. Stop making excuses. PPS - Also spare me the boomer canned response of "Go SoLo!" Im a fucking cleric. We dont solo. Even if they did, its simply not worth my time to get 0.0003% xp every 5 minutes. Even if it WAS viable (again, it is NOT viable) It'd have to be undead... in Unrest.. so now Im taking another group's camped mobs. That'll make me LOTS of friends!

Any way.....I just wanted to say thank you for making EQ content!
help me find authentic vanilla pvp server?
Don't think PvP is all that popular anymore in EQ.. If I were to guess I think P99 Red may be the best atm.
The leveling just seems way harder for me.
Is Quarm just as social as p99? If it is I might give it a try
yeah from my perspective it's been more social than p99 but that's probably cuz im not playing a necro on quarm lol
Sorry you had that experience! Glad you're enjoying P99 though =)
but secrets has demonstrated in the past that they are such a stable / reliable / capable person. WHAT A SURPRISE that they completely changed into this narcissist megalomaniac overnight! /s
Salelann, Shaman, former leader of Legend of Marr. Hit me up if you recognize me.
will do!
LOVED p99 till raiding. Then it was too packed at the top. Poop socking with 150+ in zone, and 3 or 4 guilds. No thanks.
Did he just say shamans are the best soloers
If only I could play EverQuest on a controller with proper support (which should be very possible these days) I would probably be able to actually appreciate EverQuest as a game much more than currently…..then again I also think that there is no reason that EverQuest shouldn’t be ported to consoles since even the Switch is way more powerful than what EQ came out on back in the day or what it takes to run it now.
I would love to play EQ on the controller!! I had an addon for WoW where I could use one and it was really satisfying. I'm sure someone could figure it out lol
@@dessius yeah! The addon you probably used was most likely ConsolePort and i think someone did figure it out for EverQuest 2 but I mean….it’s EverQuest 2 lmao
no map no buy
I don't think this person knows what the word authentic means
That'll make me LOTS of friends!
exp on quarm is dogshit
Instanced raiding?! Gross, that’s not EQ
The difference is that server will quickly die.
quarm is way better, don't waste your time on p99
Different strokes for different folks, they have similar experiences overall but they aren't trying to replicate the same thing. Quarm isn't for me and I'll stick to p99, but I hope you and others similarly minded enjoy Quarm.
the cilent is for sure more classic
is gud
No. It's trash af. Go play p99 if you want a great classic eq experience.
