    The oil is overfilled. That is actually a horizontal shaft motor. Tip the machine forward onto its frame so that the fuel tank is down lowest to the ground. The oil dip stick is directly below the pull cord. The proper level is when oil is level with the bottom threads of the dip stick hole

      The Honda gx31 is a 360 degree inclinable engine. They use a small internal reed valve that separates the oil reservoir from the crankcase because it is mist oil system. Oil coming out the breather means the Reed valve is bad or stuck.

      @@firewatch814 I accept what you are saying, but I doubt there is anything wrong. People check and add oil to this tiller with the motor in the wrong orientation. You can not add/check oil with the machine in its operating position. Watch crazyjdkid on youtube . ruclips.net/video/9_y0UEecrC8/видео.html

      Maybe not. I have a gx31 that pumps all it's oil out until it's all gone. I'd say broken oil rings or severely worn rings in my case.

    Had the same problem.
    Probable causes:
    1) you over filled the oil
    2) you turned the motor on its side while it wasn't running. This motor was designed to run in all positions, but not to store in all positions.
    Solution:
    Right now you motor is full of oil and so is your spark plug. You need to remove the park plug and drain the exceex oil. After you do that I suggest you clean the motor with gasoline, shake the motor and drain again. You should also put some gasoline through the air intake because you can't have oil there. Now that you engine is clean on the inside you need to clear you spark plug, because it's probably covered in oil and you won't get a spark if you keep it like that ... Do the same thing, clean the spark with galosine until you have removed all the oil.
    Once the engine, the air intake and the spark are clean (without oil), you can start your motor. It will smoke a lot due to the oil that remains inside. Let it run for a while and it will be as new.
    Good luck.

      i have the same problem with mine now, but i cant see anything wrong with my piston rings. any other ideas?

    • @shawnstrother2165
      @shawnstrother2165 5 лет назад

      If not the piston rings something is broken in the oil pump system and is probably not worth fixing considering it's an odd motor and parts would be expensive/not findable

    Was it lying on it's side? It needs to be stored upright or the oil will leak over time. I think I read on a forum that if laid on it's side the oil will leak into the air filter. I'd store it upright for a few days. you can replace the carp on amazon or ebay for under 20 dollars. Just finished rebuilding the transmission on my fg100 a rebuild kit for the transmission runs about $135

      Roger Seher it had been stored upright and had just had the carb replaced and the oil changed. It was really strange, I'm not entirely sure what happened. lucky for me the guy I bought it from was honest enough to take it back and return my money, since this happened less than an hour after I purchased it, including travel time.

      the gx 31 Honda does not matter which way the motor is orientated it has Innovative 360 degree operation very good motor if your getting oil in the motor it is ether piston rings or the complicated oil pump system is broken

      shawn strother hi, i have the same problem with mine. Is it worth to fix it? So a new carb will not fox the problem then?
