I met Norman a few times as I also lived in the Isle of Man. When I was 7 I approached him at a village fete and asked him for an autograph and he said "is this for your nan?" and I said it was for me because I thought he was great and he said "do you remember me?" and I said "yes Ive seen all your 60's films" and he said "you look good for your age!" Then he asked me what my fave film was and fave line, I did the "Mr Grimsdale" shout and he laughed. Then as he walked away, he tripped over and turned around to point at me and blame me for tripping him. Amazing & lovely man!

That’s a lovely story Amy, thanks for sharing. My kids knew who Norman was, spent many many wonderful Sundays watching him, I know all their friends never knew who he was unless they came for Sunday lunch to ours. They went away delighted at what they had watched and to this day they all love Norman Wisdom who made falling look so easy! Thanks Mr Wisdom you have and still are giving us so many hours of happiness and laughter till we cried. R IP❤

What a very extraordinary man Norman was, may he be a shining beacon , he had no love as a child from his father, a disrupted family, no base line yet he survived and was all the stronger and more loving for it. Most folk would have gone under with the rejection he had suffered but here is proof of goodness and determination and self worth, Norman you are a star and shine down from the heavens.
    A truly great human.

Norman was a very special man. Despite his neglectful childhood, he stepped up and made a difference to many. That is having a life. He was loved by so many. Such talent, wonderful voice, and would always make you smile. He has resourcefulness by the bagful.

Norman Wisdom Autobiograpy is spot on I have read the book over and over again. When i was a child i was fortunate enough to see Norman at a charity event I just stared in orra of him. For my 21st Birthday I wanted to see Norman who was at Davenport Theatre he was amazing doing all the stunts on stage. Thankyou Norman for making me happy and laugh through my life.
It broke my heart when they did a documentary about Norman and his family in his later years. The only person who shown any carring for Norman was his Daughter in Law Kim. His daughter Jacki came across very selfish. I wish he was my Dad I would of looked after him to the end. God Bless you Norman a very talented English man who the world will remember forever.

It looked like she mumbled something about him not being able to resist his shenanigans haha. We were all holding our breath, just like characters in his movies haha. She was probably most nervous about knighting him...she wouldn't want to do a routine with that sword....though I bet he was trying to think of how he could work that in.

My boyfriend was building a solitary wall in the car park of the Number 73 tv studios when Mr. Wisdom arrived with his acquaintances. My Boyfriend always remembers how he spotted them building this wall, which made him immediately make a beeline for the two workers. He fell over and was cracking them up, all the time his acquaintances were trying to get him to enter the studios hahaha. I was brought up by my grandparents and we were all massive fans of Norman. Pitkini hahaha He makes me remember my grandparents. My daughter grew up watching all his films too. In a way his movies brought her closer to her great grandparents too. Thank you Norman.

I met him in Monmouth years back, when I was a beat copper, I think it would have been in the 90s. He was visiting with his companion, and while she was looking at bathroom stuff we fell into conversation. We spoke about his films and careea. I asked him why he didn't do more in the US as I really liked the film The Night they Raided Minsky 's, it was a straight role and he'd been brilliant in it - he'd worked with some of the bigest names in films at the time. I was quite amazed at his candour as to why he centered his life back here. He asked me what was my favourite act and I said to be honest that I prefered his singing, where upon he sang to me a couple of his songs, quite unabashed. Afterwards we chatted for a while about my time at sea, until his companion had finished browsing when we shook hands and said good bye. A very genuine man. It's a wonderful memory which I keep with me.

This man at one point was the sole motive force of the British film industry. His films alone kept film studios open, saving them from decline. Cinemas had huge queues 4 people wide. He was a smash hit in the states as well. He was a phenomenon. It was heart breaking to see him in that documentary showing him in his 90s when he was left in a home.....so sad. His films are still amazing to this day. God bless Norman Wisdom.

In the tv documentary on his dementia just before he died his children treated him in the most abominable way when he was diagnosed with dementia. Only his daughter-in-law comes out of it with any credit, a lovely lady. I was particularly shocked at the attitude & cruel jibes he endured from his daughter, a hard woman with no patience who didn't even try to understand his condition. My own father died from dementia so I have first hand experience of the illness.

I recall as a boy in England in the 1960's that ( as the documentary rightly states ) Norman Wisdom was bigger in the movies even than James Bond. His films were eagerly anticipated; and notwithstanding his actual height, he really was a giant for many years in the UK.

Norman Wisdom was simply brilliant and inspired so many people.
What is probably not as well known is that that he inspired thousands to actually join the military. Believe it or not some of his films were probably unwittingly recruitment films.
I loved everything he did and all his films but for me when he was alongside Edward Chapman were the best.
And lets make no mistake musicianship aside, a military bandsman making Battalion boxing champion is very special indeed.
His comedy timing was sublime. In short one of the greats

How could any one not like this man Sad souls, Sad Lost Souls people with no Sense of Humor, The man was a pure genius and like Charlie Chaplin he could also write a lovely melody with one finger on the piano, both had massive hits in their life times, What a Talented Genius, he was, and humble with it ,
