RUclips is like a time capsule. Loved this show!!
Likewise.
Jami Gertz really had the Muffy & Boots roles nailed down. Too funny!
She reminds me of Patty Simcox from Grease.
Try imagining both Boots and Muffy getting it all on at once with B.J. McKay in the sleeper of his 1979 Kenworth K100 COE Aerodyne?????!!!!!
If only a way could have been found to have the guy driving the Mercury convertible with the flames painted on it to do away with the character played by Lorenzo Lamas; then maybe Patty Simcox would have had to have fallen in love with the character of Eugene the dip.
I can not believe I loved this show back in the day. I'am 60 and it seems silly to me❤
71 going on 72, and count me in.
My favorite One Hit One Season One Wonder show of all time
The show was promising. It was cutting edge. The Waitresses and Devo were popular! I was in junior high at the time. The MTV generation!
me 2
I was in junior high in those days too. I remember liking this show back then. It was different, but I liked it.
I was in seventh grade in 1982-83, this show was great. They had a 24 share the first half of the season, which is huge. The show was moved in Jan. 1983 to a slot competing with the second half of the A -Team. What do you know the show slipped to a 12 share. Unfortunately they definitely lost alot of the boys who watched the show.
How was it cutting edge ? It was very much a product of the time.
@@MeadeSkeltonMusic Don't be such a......square.
I was a freshman in HS and loved this show!
ditto!
I'm QUITE certain that EVERYONE who went to high-school was a freshman...
I was also a freshman in high school when this show came out.
Good to know.
More or less.
I was about seven or eight when this sitcom came out. I remember watching it but, it's very foggy memories. I do remember loving it, though. 1982 was a LONG time ago.😄
same here, i remember the name of the show, the theme song and thats about it.
@@williamhaynes7089 If we didn't have proof we might have guessed it was a dream.😄
I remember the video game episode.
Some guy was hooked on PAC-man or something… they put him in front of a board game and tried to deprogram him.
Same. I remember the Devo episode, which I thought was the coolest thing ever.
I was 4
Muffy was right they are gonna hit it big and indeed they did. Their appearance on this show was a boost 😉👌💯
I love this show so much.
I was 11 and loved this show. A product of the MTV generation. I always thought this was what high school was gonna be like…lol.
It happens.
One of the funniest lines I've ever heard in any comedy in my whole life: "He's John Travolta, Sylvester Stallone, and The Fonz, all rolled into slightly less-than-one."
Laughing every time I think of it.
Great Caesar’s Ghost!
7:04 no way…I’m new wave!
Thankyou!
On occasions.
Gladly.
I was a sophomore in H.S. & a Square Peg. This show made it ok!
So far so good.
I was 14 when this aired. Watched it every week. I thought Slash was a "Fox"!🦊😎Thanks for putting this on😃
I was 13, loved the show. My 16 year old sister loved it even more. This show should have lasted 4 years and followed them all the way to graduation in 1986. Real bummer it was only on 1 year. I also have the DVD with the complete season and interviews with the cast.
That’s nice to know.
@@user-wi6sh6vh8u ugh🙄one of those
Most interesting.
This little girl (SJP) had no idea that she years later would become a huge icon.
It happens.
I was 13 when this first aired. I loved it and was disappointed that it ended so soon.
I felt the same way, too.
I was also 13, I was baffled when they cancelled it-- everyone I knew watched it.
Obviously it looks like another one of those shows that was adored by the critics and killed by the network executives.
I was in 7th grade when this came out and my best friend watched this all the time and my parents controlled the ONE TV in the 1982 house so I didn't get to watch it, bummer! very fun to see the fashion and hair again
Likewise.
No way. I’m New Wave!
It appears that way.
Totally!😂
New Wave, totally different head.
So it seems.
I grew up watching this and I just thought of it so priceless getting to visit ur teenage years
I knew back then that Patty would end up marrying Ferris Bueller ❤
Still love this show!
Likewise!
He’s like the original Mr. Big! Lol
I used to LOVE this show!!!
Same here.
This show was great!
Top notch.
Square Pegs debuted on CBS September 27, 1982 in the 8 P.M. Monday slot, and remained in that slot throughout its one-season run. The show struggled in the ratings against That's Incredible on ABC. WGBO in Chicago showed reruns of the series in local syndicated television stations early 1986, and episodes were shown on USA Network in the early-1990s, and later on Disney Channel (for a short-time from December 31, 1996 to January 1, 1997), Nickelodeon/Nick@Nite, Nick at Nite’s TV Land, MeTV and Decades. Square Pegs was recently aired on Catchy Comedy on January 28, 2024 during the "Catchy Binge".
More episodes, pretty please with sugar on top!!!!!❤
Also waiting.
The "Freaks and Geeks" of the 80s. Such a shame allegations of drug and alcohol on set led Embassy Television chose to shut production down for what had been a decent and promising ratings draw for CBS.
I have the DVD with interviews. Square Pegs had a 24 share the first half of the season, that's huge. Yes, Anne Beatts also mentioned the actual drug use and other deciding factors. Great show, too bad it was only on for the 1982-83 season.
Allegations without physical proof to show to a grand jury will do it everytime.
However, the only ones actually using were the cast members who played LaDonna and Vinnie.
I just remember the theme song
This show was life changing in my dating life. I was about 9. But Lauren was a first crush. It was then I realized I liked the geek and not the cheerleader.
How interesting.
Wow I can spot at least 3 people who appeared on "Seinfeld": Jamie Gertz (couldnt spare a square), the woman Jerry dated who looked like him, and the guy who sold George the hairpiece!
Too bad that she never got a guest appearance on “BJ & THE BEAR”, not to mention “THE DUKES OF HAZZARD”.
Square pegs it’s a fun show from blue pictures television.
I was 10 about to turn 11 when this came out
I was 7 going on 8. This is/was totally awesome on so many levels.
2 weeks from my 12th when it came out. Thought it was the *coolest* show ever!
@@truecrimeboozer HA ha that means you and joey are at least 50! _Ouch_ 😉
@@chiefscheider 52 in August
Intriguing.
I don’t recall the laugh-track but then it didn’t bug me like it does today so thats prolly why. The song never left my head though so it was fun to hear again.
Try imagining the possibility of Vinnie, Jennifer, and LaDonna getting arrested by Hazzard County Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane?!
this was a great show
And it is definitely crying out loud “Give us a spin-off in which the kids of Patty and Lauren are in a similar dilemma!”
It's one of my favorites.this one is no exception.
It came out when Coy and Vance were filling in for Bo and Luke in Hazzard County.
My 8th grade video yearbook. 😂❤
How puzzling.
Sarah Jessica Parker wore glasses and smart.
Definitely.
This show would have been much more successful if it had been on NBC instead of CBS, videotaped in front of a live audience, and paired with the Facts Of Life.
The show was cancelled because a lot of bad stuff was going on behind the scenes like drugs and more.
In front of a live audience? Yuck.
@@Asukenick The show was definitely not done in front of a live audience. It's a single-camera movie style sitcom that used a laugh track. I think he's saying "yuck" to my idea of changing the show to a live audience format.
@@troylowe814 I just think it would have been more fun to hear a live audience laugh instead of a laugh track. Also, a laugh track will laugh at anything you use it on but a live audience will tell you the truth about the strength of a joke.
You might have be right!
I loved The Facts of Life!
I didn’t really connect with this show. I was in elementary school when this show was on. I couldn’t relate to HS at all. TFOL had all age groups.
I never understood why Patty dumped her lunch. Just put it in a bag and leave the lunchbox in your locker.
Respect for elders. Innocent young girl wouldn't think of doing anything against her family values....... sorry just throwing out ideas again
Puzzling, isn’t it?
Good grief.
Sophomore the yr this came out.
Amazingly interesting.
P.S. Larry Simpson was reallynice. He was NOT a snob.😊
Only suppose that the girl who he liked that was in college, found herself another man?
Surely, that would probably like drive him into Patty’s love life via the U.S. Postal Service, and no sooner does Patty enroll at the U.M.D. (University of Minnesota at Duluth) where Larry Simpson eventually got his Masters Degree in Business Administration from, well, let’s just say that around Sophomore year of college, Patty officially becomes Mrs. Larry Simpson.
Who else saw David Raynr ? I never saw his name come up in the credits, unless I missed it... 😊
It’s a possibility.
If I were Patty and Lauren, I wouldn't even want to be popular with Jennifer, LaDonna and Vinnie. They are horrible snobs!😢
Cheer up, maybe they could possibly pull the ultimate prank on Muffy by having her go out on a date with Milwaukee born independent semi trucker B.J. McKay?
Also, they manage to get Vinnie boozed up enough to get him an overnight trip to the drunk tank with LaDonna?
Now, if that doesn’t make Jennifer’s blood boil, then what would you suggest?
Jami Gertz had that character nailed….but Traci Nelson was a terrible valley girl. Like, totally
Excellent point well taken.
This is so bad. I guess when i was 8 it didnt seem that way 😮
It's amazing how the two perceived defining problems of the main characters, glasses and braces, are easy fixes today with Lasik and Invisalign.
…if you had money.
Neither of those were available back then especially to a 14 year old.
@@jessluxsozzyYes, that is why I wrote: are easy fixes (TODAY)! And braces for your teeth have been around since the 1950s.
More or less.
Good factor.
Good show it only lasted one year
Loved by the critics.
Killed by the network.
From geek to glamorous.....
More or less.
Payl Schaefer, right on.
Perhaps.
did the theme song change after the 1st episode? Seem like I remember there being the words to the song at the beginning of the show. of course, it's been 40 years..so
It varied depending on the episodes in question.
The laugh track is awful but on a positive note I did enjoy this show and Jamie Gertz trying to raise money for her Guatemala child was a fun touch.
I haven't seen this show in forever. It was very popular among my 6th grade classmates. We all thought Jami Gertz was hot...because she was.
Hot enough to possibly get it on with Greg Evigan in a love scene that would involve either Boots Sinclair, Muffy Tepperman, or possibly both in the sleeper of the 1979 Kenworth K100 COE Aerodyne with B.J. McKay?
0:22 Want to feel very ancient? There are elements still missing on this periodic table. Hey, Do you feel a draft? I need my shawl.
The only thing I get out of this show is that Tracy Nelson is in it. She’s the daughter of teen idol Rick Nelson. Broaden your horizons and Google him.
Even in 1982 he was for previous generations. Today? You gotta be joking....
Depends on just which oldies radio stations still play his music on a regular basis in our nation.
@@user-wi6sh6vh8u The likelihood of kids who watch Square Pegs listening to Ricky Nelson is infinitesimally low to non-existent. Different eras entirely.

Unusual, isn’t it?
When it was just a young boy...
Whats with Tracey Nelsons accent
I was only 8 years old when square pegs ran I didn't understand it but it was okay too bad it didn't last
Ain’t that a shame.
This show SURE wouldn't last long today... 2:51
The 21st century sucks..... in certain ways.
It SURE didn't last long then!
lol that's not a big deal.
Not even a possible spin-off?
Especially with the reintroduction of the inflation from back then.
Who's on here for the short clip about Billy Idol / New Wave???
Any body else notice they are getting lapped by every girl in the class
Apparently from the way that Vinnie, Jennifer, and LaDonna wield their kind of power and enforcement in the school.
Cringy
At times.
Think that might have been the point - totally!😂
Muffy is a stuffy snob eho even is nervy to her teachers and principle? How dare they let her get away with it.
If I were the principle, I'd force her to apologize to her teachers and earn her not to do it again, or OUT!!??
The producers should have done something to make this show last more seasons. It was really good.😮
However, by listening between the dialogue, I have found out that even Muffy hates Vinnie, Jennifer, and LaDonna.
Awful show.
“Well, now I wouldn’t say that.”
The little man from the draftboard in the classic 1945 animated short subject picture of “DRAFTEE DAFFY”.
Based on thumbnail, I thought this was a horse video.
Sidekick Lauren is pretty even with braces. How on earth did SJP headline a show looking like that?
Never did understand why she was also the lead in SATC, Kim owned it!
Obviously it looks like you favor Miss Catrell?!
There were two female singers for the waitresses. And the other one is the lead singer. She was not even on stage.
The lead singer is Patty Donahue. She was on stage. The other singer was the backup singer, shown on stage during the end credits.
Sure would like to see them do a reunion concert tour that would possibly cover events like the Walking Tall Festival in Adamsville, Tennessee, or possibly even Pony Penning Days at Chincoteague Island in Virginia.
How strange?!
Trump2024 👍
Not even if he has LaDonna and Vinnie campaigning for him!
