  • Here is the first part of Glasgow Trams Part 1.
Unfortunately I only managed to retrieve 1hour 30 minutes so this part runs for about 45 minutes.
This is a nostalgic trip through many different parts of Glasgow and even out as far as Paisley.

Aye my wee granny loved the trams she would always talk fondly of them, of course they were way before my time being born in 79 but i did visit the old tranway on pollokshaws rd when i was a kid.

I lived in Yoker latterly Partick and knew my local area reasonably well, but the 63 Auchenshuggle and 64 Dalmuir West referred to places that may as well have been at the other end of the Milky Way for all I knew. I didn't even know we were in the west of the city and north of the river 😳

I FLED Glasgow back in the 80s, when the Thatcherite Tory dictatorship, inflicted on us by the English, cost me my job, marriage, my home & my kids. I haven't been back.

@@di7948 Much better than I would have if I'd stayed, poverty-stricken, in my Third World Glasgow suburb!

Excellent Alex, gave the film a thumbs up but wish i could give it 10 out of 10. Being a Pollok boy loved the Parkhouse road and Nitshill road shots with the green hill in the distance that became South Nitshill.

Had this film for years and waited all this time to share it. Glad you enjoyed it. Think I may reuse the Parkhouse/Nitshill section in a wee video I am putting together from my own personal films captured in 2009.

3:49 Those iron concertina doors on the underground used to terrify me as a wee child. I had an uncle who worked a tower crane on the docks; another was a cabinet-maker on the Queen Mary. Together they once stole a tram in the city centre to get home to the Gorbals 🙄. I remember the tram seats had hinged backs so they could lean the other way; at the end of a route the tram didn’t turn round, but its front became its back end. Great fun flipping them all! Also putting pennies on the tram tracks... and watching when the tram driver had to get the very long pole off the side of the tram to reconnect the electric dolly to the overhead wires.
