Same here I like a good palm contact but I dont really put my whole arms weight on my mouse. And with my pinkie and thumb I lift my mouse ever so slightly like not even a millimeter so that friction cant slow me down when I'm tracking. I'm using the Model O- and this strategy seems to be working pretty well in Overwatch at least
One very important thing is to always re-center to your original resting position so that when you aim at a foe you can track properly without running out of reach. This is a very needed practice to get as fast as you can possibly get it.

Perfect explanation. Had a larger G602 which forced palm/claw. Great for flicks, terrible tracking. Switched to a smaller Viper Mini which I fingertip. Much better tracking, some instability involved with side button use.
👍🏽 🇬🇧 September 2024 Awesome explainer piece! Note - many mice (all?) - have the fulcrum of the main click buttons residing towards the middle of the mouse (the peak of the hump, often). Now - the closer to this that you apply pressure, the more pressure is felt by the fulcrum. Taken to the extreme to illustrate the point - if you press right on/above the fulcrum, there'll be zero button movement, & 100% force on the fulcrum. Pretty sure shroud uses a relaxed claw? Right? Back when he played CS he arched his fingers but he doesn’t have them as raised anymore probably due to playing games with hold to ads as it’s easier to aim that way. Although from his mouse cam you can see him pull his mouse down with a relaxed claw (often when controlling recoil) which I don’t understand how he does that because that would mean he’s using a more fingertip style grip since he would have less of his palm rested towards the back of the mouse. If anyone has their own thoughts leave them below. Great video btw, very well made and explained! Subbed!
I moded my model O- to allow some *elevated palm support.* As a result I'm having the best of finger tip and claw.. wide finger adjustments WITH palm stability for flicks.
Actually very nice video! It made me realise that i had fingertip grip and its not that good playing valorant so ill try to change to clawgrip! Thanks Brandon Taylor, you won yourself a sub!
In my experience, palm grip is the best for tracking. Like literally insane. Claw grip would be better for micro flicks. Im not gonna even talk about finger tip grip... But with palm grip, you don't rest your whole hand on the mouse. You grip it with your thumb and pinky finger. This style fits a low sensitivity the best, as you would pivot from your elbow instead of your wrist giving you more control and less variables to manage when tracking and flicking. Palm grip minimizes the errors in aiming by keeping the wrist and fingers straight, unlike claw and fingertip grip 5:09, where the changes in the fingers' positioning introduce another layer of motion you have to control. For the scores, I would just change the "pressure" and "tracking" to a check. But you are right about verticality... When aiming consistently, it's important to have an anchor, which in this case would be the elbow. When dealing with verticality, you have to lift the elbow and remove the anchor to move up and down which can cause some inconsistencies in your aim. The anchor then becomes the shoulder, which brings proper posture into play. You can, however, practice and get better. In time (and with proper posture), you can track vertically with no problem, but flicking will still be slower due to moving your whole arm. Hmm... Yeah it seems obvious that you play with a high sensitivity. You put "God-like tracking" and "Pin point accuracy" on fingertip. I'd suggest watching Ron Rambo Kim's video on mouse sensitivities and precision, along with the mechanics of aiming. This will provide a better understanding of the importance of precision, consistency, sensitivities, and how the different grips can add to or take away from the sensitivity. For example, you get the most out of fingertip grip from playing with a high sensitivity and pivoting from your wrist. Fingertip grip provides insanely fast flick shots but at the cost of precision. With a high sensitivity, the dot on the mousepad becomes much smaller and harder to hit. On the other hand, palm grip benefits more from a low sensitivity and using your forearm or elbow and the pivot point. It allows you to minimize variables in the aiming mechanics giving you an easily repeatable method of aiming. Tracking becomes much easier to control and flickshots are more precise. Although a low sensitivity causes the target area on the mousepad to be bigger and easier to hit, the flickshot speeds are much slower. Claw grip can utilize the middle ground of both a high sensitivity and low sensitivity. With practice, you can improve upon the weaknesses of each style, but you will need to improve on different areas. When palm gripping, your precision will come easily, but your speed will suffer. So... you work on your speed. When fingertip gripping, speed comes natural, but your precision will be horrible. So... you work on precision. Claw gripping can utilize both the finger tip and palm grip at the middle ground, where you will need to work on both precision and speed. It also introduces more variables you have to be aware of and control when aiming. It takes the best of both sides and mashes them with the worst of both sides. But if you master the worst of both, you will be rewarded with the best of both and have the ability to transcend all styles of games.
@@reaperofinsanity3370 you can do that, but you wont be able to turn lol. It would be great for micro adjustments but you will need to move your arm to preaim before the micro adjustments. Your tracking and flicking will be super precise because the sens is super low, but it only covers a small area on your screen. When fingertip aiming, your anchor is your wrist. You would have to continuously pick up and drop your anchor to aim which isnt feasible. An "anchor" is something that stays the same no matter what. Its your reference point for aiming
Cool video! About the fingertip grip: you are using a suboptimal mouse. Get a shorter and lighter one and you will be able to not get blocked by your own handbalm and thumb anymore like now.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO! After watching this I realized im most comforrtable with fingertip claw, and im hitting headshots on top of headshots! tysm!

Fingertip gripping does not mean that your wrist have to be locked to one spot. Fingertip grip users flick with the arm, but they do the final adjustments with the wrist and fingers. Try to use the side buttons while moving the mouse with the clawgrip, you will immediately see why the fingertip grip is the best.
Very nice video! I notice nobody mentioned using a wrist rest-not even once in 834 comments!-what's up with that? Essential part of my desk furniture-on KB as well-since I had to swap mousing hand due to RSI.
I'm a palm user that rests palm on the mousepad and switches to fingertip grip fine movement. One thing I noticed is I like big mice with some material to rest my ring finger and pinky on there. Razer Deathadder V2 seems to be the best shape for me.
You forgot to mention click timing. When you arch your fingers you can press with your force + weight which allows for better click timing and responsiveness. I just got my first gaming mouse, on from a budget (but pretty ergonomic) office mouse. I was thinking of changing from claw to fingertip, but I think claw is the most forgiving grip and you can use the side buttons land have a little bit of verticality like the fingertip grip
Dude, I don't even know how I can thank you enough for this. (No homo) after watching this and practicing for an hour in Overwatch my weapon accuracy went to a 60%. I always loved the idea of having good aim but never understood how much the grip style mattered. I spend so much money on mice because I always thought it was the equipment that hindered my ability, turns out my ego was shut down real quick. However, now I get accused of hacking :/ lol. Oh well, grass is always greener on the other side I guess. Again thanks, and keep up the awesome videos.
Great video BT! Much needed video tbh had no clue grip i was using and needed to switch it up to get my gaming to the next level, hopefully this works, will be switching to a claw grip, is it possible on the skoll?
well, I was using claw grip and palm grip combination. XP Means not touching the mouse back with my palm and little loose fingers on the right and left mouse buttons. I started using this grip when SILERZZ used it. he's a great PUBG player and I envy him. Well, you can ignore my comment though...
I personally choose to use palm grip but when im playing FPS games like apex etc, I unintentionally use claw grip and thought its awkward shouldnt be done.. but thanks to this vid im back to my sanity cuz claw really is straining specially in long hours of play XD.. subs for this
Also I find that I can score really high on flicks and grid shot type aim trainers but my tracking suffers, or isn’t as good something I’m working on but is the complete opposite of what you stated, maybe it’s a personal thing.
After seeing this video Im realizing my grip changes depending on mouse. When I use the GPro Wireless I use full palm grip because of the size I'm guessing. But when I use the Ultralight 2 I tend to use a claw/fingertip hybrid grip. Crazy... Dope video as always BT! Also shoutout for tweeting that Beyerdynamic DT990 sale, can't wait for them to come in later this week!
I can’t believe how much grip matters! I’m new to pc and been playing mouse and key for like two months. I’ve been using claw and boy I struggled till I switched to fingertip grip. My aim especially up close is way better also tracking is easier wish I would have switched sooner lol
Something that I've been really struggling with is that I'm very used to having 3 fingers on the mouse. Like the e.g of palm grip shown in the vid. However I tried fingertip grip and have run into all the cons listed and I'm now stuck in a position where palm grip feels bad for micro adjustments and fingertip makes me lose all stability with the side buttons. With the claw grip I'm want to try but is it actually possible to do with 3 fingers on the mouse? Cause I feel like I'm going back to fingertip aiming when doing so and I'm not sure whether im doing it right
I am a palm grip user with very very large hands and I have found for me personally the key to palm grip is to grip TIGHT. Suck that controller into your fingers and palm and then use your thumb really wedge and jam that mouse into the opposite side of your hand. If you do it correct nobody should beable to take the mouse out of your hand.
Relaxed claw is not a relaxed palm grip. The palm doesn't touch the mouse. It's just a claw grip with slightly less arched index and middle fingers to reduce strain.
This is probably the first video that I've ever run across thats shown off the pros and cons of these different grip styles in ways that related to my own experiences. Palm grips feel like they're slower to press M1/M2 and palm weighs the mouse down to me. My Fingertip/Claw grip has difficulty accessing side buttons without aim deflection or losing mouse control (because the thumb often has to lift off the secure grip to press the button.) Is also difficult to hit the mouse wheel if you're pressing M1 near the top of the arch due to how far forward/down modern mice curve the main buttons. Can finally share a video with someone about the complaints i have with modern mice!
Wanted to say thanks for the detailed visualizations of the different grips. Just learned that those even exist and yt suggested your video. Im suffering from wrist pain recently and seems to be it's already a tendonitis. pretty sure now my new razer pro click is too big for me using the fingertip grip. I had no issues when using the hp omen reactor. I'm not a gamer anymore so I just wanted to say your video als helped a CAD user. ;) Thx
@@silversolver7809 thx for your response. bought the logitech mx 3 anywhere and it works perfectly, because i found out I'm using fingertip grip. doesn't work with big mice. ;) thx again

Thank you for the advice. It is helping me train to be better at pc gaming
very good produced informational content. You have a real talent for this keep going.
Thanks bro!
well, I was using claw grip and palm grip combination. XP
Means not touching the mouse back with my palm
and little loose fingers on the right and left mouse buttons.
I started using this grip when SILERZZ used it. he's a great PUBG player
and I envy him. Well, you can ignore my comment though...
OMG thank you so much this helped a lot. You just earned a sub👍
Thanks for this helped me thinking about my claw grip been tying it for a bit
Are you still using claw grip?
@@pyrowacko583 yep still am
I personally choose to use palm grip but when im playing FPS games like apex etc, I unintentionally use claw grip and thought its awkward shouldnt be done.. but thanks to this vid im back to my sanity cuz claw really is straining specially in long hours of play XD.. subs for this
Never paid a lot of attention, but I've always used to same style which seems like a relaxed claw, I guess? It's served me well.
When i was a kid iused claw grip
I still use it its good thanks for video bro
Awesome video dude, got my sub!
I have the finger tip grip, I always thought it was relaxed claw grip but same same 😂
Also I find that I can score really high on flicks and grid shot type aim trainers but my tracking suffers, or isn’t as good something I’m working on but is the complete opposite of what you stated, maybe it’s a personal thing.
Hey love the video 🙂 I'm new to pc gaming and this is helping
It all comes down to your preference and what you like the most
Great video as always!👍
This helped me out a lot
After seeing this video Im realizing my grip changes depending on mouse. When I use the GPro Wireless I use full palm grip because of the size I'm guessing. But when I use the Ultralight 2 I tend to use a claw/fingertip hybrid grip. Crazy... Dope video as always BT! Also shoutout for tweeting that Beyerdynamic DT990 sale, can't wait for them to come in later this week!
Makes sense since each mouse has a specific shape that will suit other gripping styles
scapegoat makes sense, i was always just clueless about grip styles since i’m still kinda new to PC gaming
I can’t believe how much grip matters! I’m new to pc and been playing mouse and key for like two months. I’ve been using claw and boy I struggled till I switched to fingertip grip. My aim especially up close is way better also tracking is easier wish I would have switched sooner lol
best vid yet. But i commebted on ur top 5 mousepads and i asked does the zowie divina g-sr have no stitching like the g-sr-se. PLZ ANSWER (:
Really helpful vid thanks man
Another great video keep up the good work!
Thanks lonious!
I saw you using the Viper Ultimate! What do u think is the best gripstyle for it or are they all fitting?
I mostly do a hybrid of claw and fingertip nice vid btw :)
I use Fingertipp grip with the curly fingers but I do flicks easy
I'm not a gamer anymore so I just wanted to say your video als helped a CAD user. ;) Thx
You can learn to mouse with the other hand-I did it.
GF got wrist trouble earlier in the year, she ended up getting a Roller Mouse.
@@silversolver7809 thx for your response. bought the logitech mx 3 anywhere and it works perfectly, because i found out I'm using fingertip grip. doesn't work with big mice. ;) thx again
Anyone else just do their own thing incorporate bits from all three like claw thumb for side buttons, finger for small movements, and palm set up for large movements and as resting position when not expecting combat?
Another banger BT finger tip Grip here.
