However, one of those two is an attractive conference partner for Notre Dame further down the line and quite frankly, if Stanford and Cal don't get themselves in as soon as possible they probably won't ever get in. Oregon and Washington can and very well may get in later, but for now they can try to have a go at helping this Pacific conference survive.

There’s no denying the academic side of Stanford. They are head and shoulders above everyone not already sitting in the Ivy League. Here’s the question. Do you want a team that gives you the best grades, or the best chance at winning a National Title? I’m not saying Oregon does, but they are also a lot closer to winning a title over Stanford. There are other teams as well, that give you a better opportunity to win a championship. The SEC trans do not sit in large tv markets. The SEC teams, outside of a few, don’t have AAU membership either. There have been 5 different teams from the SEC to win a National Title in the last 20 years. 6 teams in the last 30 years. Can the B1G say that? Last 30 years, only OSU can claim that. The SEC revenue is due to viewership, not scholastics! Not sitting in a large tv market! They win. They win, and they win all the time! They bring in viewership, viewership bring advertisement, advertisement brings revenue!!! It’s basic business, it’s not too hard to figure that out. What teams bring in the viewers? What teams bring the best chance of winning? So if the B1G is content sitting at home watching their teams play for the National Title in chess, great. I’ll be watching the SEC win another football National Title.
@@jimedick9496 Ok, Once again It’s not all about sports let alone football The sports budget is a rounding error in the budget of most big 10 schools. Stanford makes the conference better. @@jimedick9496 PS The big 10s media deal will beat the SEC And you know what else the big 10 has going for it? Academics. @@lordrayden3045 I agree with what you’re saying. I’m not disputing that at all. The reason why the B1G gets that kind of revenue from Fox isn’t because of academic endowments, or even sitting in heavy TV markets. Fox pays a heavy media rights agreement because of viewership, and viewership only. The B1G has a massive following. They are viewed right along with the SEC. That’s why both conferences pull in that type of revenue. Prior to USC/UCLA relocating, the PAC 12 had 8 teams located in the top 21 nationally ranked markets. 9 in the top 30. That’s 30% of the largest markets located in the pac 12. The PAC 12 was also one of the highest academic conferences along side the B1G. Yet, why such a parity of revenue? It’s because those living in the Midwest and east coast watch college football. That cannot be said out west. There are a handful of teams, yes, but nothing like the other conferences. The PAC 12 just doesn’t get a ton of viewership as a conference. Anyway, all I’m trying to say, is that the B1G will always compete with the SEC in media revenue. What they can’t claim, is National titles. Only the ACC can even come close. They’ve had 3 teams win the National Title in the last 32 years. The SEC has had 6, while the B1G has had 1. If the B1G truly wants to be the big dog of college football, they need teams that have the best chance at competing and winning. Outside of the SEC, the only teams that have won, the title, or even played for the title are Clemson, FSU, Miami, Oregon, Oklahoma, and Norte Dame. Cincy and Washington have at least made it to the playoffs. These are the teams that give the B1G the best shot at helping the conference win a National Title outside of their own members. Also, scratch Oklahoma since they just joined the SEC. Yet, another powerhouse to the SEC!!! So why the SEC is loading up more high caliber teams, the B1G is grabbing scholars. At least USC is a good start. But the SEC is going to continue to win national championships while the B1G sits at home. Just like last year, and so many prior, there will be 2 SEC teams playing against each other for the title. So you call claim BS to me all you want, but I’m right. Boise commissioned a study to assess their ability to move to the Pac 12. The Pac in essence told them no, largely due to their Academics. Keep in mind that the two entities that rank universities that Presidents or Chancellors (the actual decision-makers) put some stock in, cannot rank them. They throw them into an “all other” bucket at the bottom. There currently does not exist in any P5 conference a school that these entities put into this ranking bucket. NOW, will the Pac rethink this when the pickings are otherwise slim for additions? Possibly, but no one is rushing to create a “first” like this.

The SEC isn’t an academic powerhouse of a conference, not even close. They don’t sit in a massive tv market, like LA, Chicago, New York, etc…. So why the large payout from ESPN????? I’ll tell you why, because ESPN doesn’t give a sh!t about your sat scores!!! They don’t care where you’re located. They care about WINNING!!!! When you win, you get viewers. When you have viewers, you get advertisement. Ads create revenue!!! This BS about value in endowments and grants is just that, BS. The reason the B1G gets a great deal from Fox, isn’t because of their tv markets, or their scholastics. It’s because their fan base is massive. They tune in to watch college football. That’s it, that’s the reason why Fox pays, not because of their scholastics. If the B1G wants to keep up with field results when it comes to competing with the SEC, bring in teams that can win!!! USC hasn’t been great, but their not bad either. So that was a good step in the right direction. They need teams that can compete. Do they want a Title in scholastics, or, do they want a Title on the football field? Get the best teams possible. They need teams that can compete. Otherwise, the SEC is going to continue to laugh at the B1G’s only recent National Championships in OSU. You all want to brag about scholastics? Wow, impressive. @@vincentpaterno5311 It doesn’t have to be, and I’m not insinuating that it does. What I’m saying is that if the B1G wants to compete on the field, they need to go after the teams that can win. Otherwise, go after Harvard or Yale. Go win some spelling tests, that always brings in large crowds!!
@@Field_Marshall The whole point is that everyone is trying to convince others why “their” team is more important due to their superior academic standing and tv market. They are not the strongest in football and despite being in great markets for the Big Ten Network (and despite the fact that USC and UCLA probably give them the whole state anyway) they have a rather disinterested local fan situation.
Cal might academically but athletically, they are middling to poor. They have trouble filling 1/4 of their stadium for any team but Stanford. Washington draws better and would be a consistent moneymaker for any conference that wanted them.
B1G can't get ND in the near future without nuking the ACC and likely taking ~4 teams along with the SEC taking another ~4.
What a sad mess! I understand, that like everything else, conference realignment is all about money! But what about the fans?
I don't know about other fans, but I almost never have any interest in watching college football teams east of the continental divide. I'd be very unhappy if I was an Oregon, Washington fan and my team was going to the Big 10 or Big 12 -- or an LA fan for that matter. I like the current Pac 12 alignment -- and the Mountain West for that matter. As a fan, wish they would remain the way they are, but that is not realistic I suppose. What a revoltin' development this is! 🤕 And btw, I think SD State would be a good Pac-12 fit.
Y'all need to look around...
West Virginia fans should be intrigued to know their U.S. Senator is going to carry the new NIL bill called for by Commissioner Warren. -this should confirm what we're hearing about West Virginia making the SEC24. But if I was a Mountaineer fan, I would be all over the phones, email, and Senator Manchin's office making certain he uses his leverage as the bill's sponsor to assure WV is in.
I think you overestimate the importance Joel Manchin would have on P5 Football to a ridiculous degree. Unless this mess goes to Congress, and I don't think they have the guts to deal with it, Manchin is not even on the fringe. Sorry but the truth is just that, the truth.

It is much better than it used to be.
Assuming no ACC nuke, my guess is the PAC12 adding 2 regional schools. SDSTATE works I guess. People overestimate the chances of more PAC12 teams to the B1G in the near future. Don't see the BIG12 or PAC12 poaching each other yet either.
Arizona has already contacted us. ASU will not be far behind, the Fanbase and sportswriters in Phoenix are castigating ASUs President. The fanbase and Alumni at CU are roughly 70-30 in favor of returning to the Big 12, and the only reason they left was Texas. And if the choice is relegation to the MWC or the Big 12 Utah will choose what is best for their fanbase. Face it. If one P5 university leaves the PAC (Stanford or Washington are probably the most likely) the PAC is toast. Filling your conference with G5 MWC teams will not help. It will kill you quicker with the dilution of your already low payout and uneven shares. The fact that we did it and it worked does not mean the PAC can make it work. Too many snotty noses to consider while we are essentially equal brands.
@@vernonsheldon-witter1225 Exploring options is not the same as starting the process or expressing strong interest. The PAC is an "academics also" conference, which creates even more inertia against moving to an "academics optional".
Not known at the time of the earlier comments, ESPN has expressed that it considers the PAC remainders and the new BIG12 members of the same value via the pro rata clause in the new BIG12's new media deal.
I think the Big 12 should get Boise State and San Diego State
Boise and SDSU would add zero value, we already have enough G5 teams to promote. Let them stay in the MWC.

Dude in the right is correct, Stanford is miles ahead of Oregon / Washington
It would be Stanford / Washington
@@jimedick9496
Ok,
Once again
It’s not all about sports let alone football
The sports budget is a rounding error in the budget of most big 10 schools. Stanford makes the conference better. And as a side benifit they bring the #6 tv market with them.
Those who don’t recognize the value of academics are either just stupid, or know their schools academics suck and are bitter about it
@@jimedick9496
PS
The big 10s media deal will beat the SEC
And you know what else the big 10 has going for it? Academics.
I read the average big 10 school has like 2.8 billion yearly in research expenditures. Now some like Michigan are way above, and some are right around a billion.
$2,800,000,000 > $90,000,000
Or I guess
$2,900,000,000 is bigger of you add the sports revenue in there
@@lordrayden3045
I agree with what you’re saying.
By the way Princess Rayden, it’s BS, not PS

lol comical, Pac should just add SDSU and Gonzaga for Basketball only, 1 percent they add Boise and UNLV, academically they just no 'Bueno' in terms of ranks. SDSU has potential I wish the Big12 take SDSU b4 the Pac12 wise up. This alone will sink the Pac12 in the long run...
@@delellis643 They are still excluding new schools because of academic snobbery, and that will kill them.

Standard and Cal have no interest whatsoever on joining the Big 12, they clearly stated that. Why waste time on schools that have disdain about your conference.

You realize that they only have 1 team located in the top 20 media market? Also, how many of those 6 National title holders is even a AAU member? That would be 1 out of the 6, University of Florida.
Here l’s my point….
The whole point is that everyone is trying to convince others why “their” team is more important due to their superior academic standing and tv market. Noon one odd going to watch them, let alone win anything.
