- Fans of Radio 2, look away now. Kit Penny has disrespected the beloved station with a toilet seat.
Thrown out of art school, Kit has moved onto creating his own cutting edge paintings. They involve disassembling transistor radios, mounting them on canvas and framing and painting them. Not only are they eye-catching, you can still listen to the Top Ten on them.
In a move that clearly riles John Stapleton, the art piece that’s tuned to Radio 2 is framed by a lavatory seat. The disrespect!

I think Kit was ahead of his time. There’s definitely a taste for this kind of art especially in buildings trying to curate an industrial/steampunk vibe. The fact it is functional is also great.
Gotta say, I think his pieces are great 😊
Great concept. Especially to personalise them to particular stations!
Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Arts Club Band.
Kit's artwork does look very 1975. Lots of 1970's colours. They remind me of a painting we had in our living room that was some arty farty representation of people on horseback. It was mainly orange and black and always reminded me of the opening titles of the LWT series "Planet Of The Apes".
Wonder what became of young - 72 year old - Kit ?
I am not sure how some of his radios operate without valves as the valve holders are clearly visible ?.😮
I looked closer some of the circuit boards are just extra added ones with a working circuit.
I am a geek 😮
The Rod Stewart cosplay was on point. 1:12
And in intelligible English, that means...?
@@analogueman123456787 It just means I am of a certain age to remember Rod Stewart dressing in open-necked patterned shirt with tie and with his long hair of the time. This lad appears to be dressed like that. That's it. :-)
@@videogamebookreviews - Erm, sorry but you've kind of missed the point.
"Rod Stewart cosplay was on point."
What on earth does that mean? Is it even English?
"Wake up Maggie, I've got an old toilet seat on Radio 2."
If anyone is asking, "Is it art?" then it's art.
I doubt any of these have made it into an art collection.
@@olivere5497 Art isn't for r.soles like you.
@@olivere5497 So only what gets into an art collection gets to be art? Whether it's good or bad art is another question entirely. Clearly it was made with some artistic intent, so I'd say it is art by that virtue alone, even if I thought it was hideous.
@@retro2103 its gallery curators who decide these things. Not you.
@@olivere5497 So if a friend of yours creates a painting for you to hang in your living room, you're not putting their art in your house? You're putting their... what? discharge? outlet? Semantic argument.
Looks sick
As they used to say, "One man's pile of bricks is another man's masterpiece." 😄
Wholesome segment here!
Apart from Stapleton telling the kid it’s not art.
@@Liofa73 lol thats true. rest of it though!
That young man is in dire need of a PlayStation.
1975: ART or the CHARTS? | Nationwide | Weird and Wonderful | BBC Archive 0743am 19.5.24 hahah thrown out.... shame!!!! whoahahhhh........ art of noises. loops and samples. the things of nowadays music chart success. if we had a national chart. the democratization of sound has pretty much messed up a lot of joy in some quarters...
wonder what he's up to now !
How much do they sell for these days? Must be worth a fortune!
Wonder if he became the curator of Tate Modern
Turner prize 😅
.. Tuner Prize?
i like them, and i like that the others like them. not remotely surprised that Mr Stapleton doesn't like them, and of course he doesn't think it's art. of course he doesn't. and of course the government wants its VAT. the only Value Added with VAT, is to the government coffers, which it can then give away or waste, whilst impoverishing us.
This was a time when a BBC presenter could say "Common or garden trannies" without losing his job.
It refers to rather a different thing and was not meant as a slur. What a weird thing to say.
I think the humour was lost on @csr7080.

@@csr7080 Obviously.
They'd be better without being painted. Just the circuits farmed.
They are all utter garbage, they look awful, there is no artist merit in any item produced.
But are they better than any recent ‘Turner Prize’ nominations?
Everyone’s a critic. Upload some of your artistic work. We’ll see how you react to the comments.
A bit of imagination doesn’t do any harm 🤷🏼♀️
what's a turn uprise nomination? :/ is that like west papua?
