The new pickups definitely have that spanky sparkle when clean(ish) which is really nice, but they also have a clarity even when very dirty, so I'd say it all worls really well. Great video!
If you don't like how the in-between positions sound, you could try wiring the middle single coil in series with each split coil in the position 2 & 4, instead of in parallel. That way both positions will sound like different humbuckers.
Always a pleasure to wind for you my man! This video was absolutely perfect. The guitar is stunning. My thoughts, especially via the video are as follows. Low end is a little more dynamic, so doesn't sound as in your face compared to the stock set. It's still there but doesn't thump and bloom so loudly in comparison.This is leaving a lot more room for the midrange and feels much less constricted. The stock pickups felt very strangled, like they were always on the edge of breakup and struggling to maintain the transients. Upper mids and highs. Much more open and clear. The clarity from the upper mids is much cleaner because of the lack of mush from the lower mids. High end is nice and breath like with enough spank to give attack but not too much in the way of actual high end. Very smooth but still extremely clear. Overall, harmonics really pop in this guitar and it feels much more life-like.
Haha, POD HD technology is out of my game for years now. I used to be a huge Line6 fan but I switched to plugins and real amp/cab sim hybrid tones etc!
Super cool build, i really think those Vai-inlays sets it off, if you’re not worried by the resale value of it in the future, you should do some actual custom inlays, since you’ve got some woodworking experience. Some purple/blue/marble inlays to match the pickguard build, it would take it to the moon! Anyways it looks killer 👍.

I just recently got the same guitar and I love it too. I have 4 other Ibanez guitars and you can really see the difference between Japanese and Indonesian made guitars. I installed a dimarzio X2N in the bridge and an air norton in the neck...it sounds much better than the vintage pickups that came with it. I have a purple mirror pickguard on order from the US that should look great on it.

I've got the Road Flare Red Genesis and agree that the bridge pickup has some nasty artifacts when pushed. Wonder what these would sound like through a real amp and speakers?

Nope, they kinda forgot about it and me too, so I left the guitar as is. The neck was too thick anyway and the fret leveling wasn't as good too. But more projects coming!
How are the frets after a year? I'm looking for a new axe, and i was looking at the RG550, and i just know that Ibanez doesn't use stainless steel frets :(

Bought a set of Zeus because of you. Like them a lot but lack a tiny bit of bite for my taste at whatever gain amount. How do they compare in real life with the Sirens ?
I have never compared them in the same guitar, but yes, the Zeus are more suited for delicate playing which I was doing a lot on that Markline. The Sirens are much richer and saturated and have more output.
You should check out the rgr652ahb or the rg652ahmfx. I bought the 1st one, loved it so much I got the rgr, and the neck on the rgr is just unreal! A lot of people don’t like the fusion edge pups, but I think they’d suit your playing perfectly cause they are very percussive. I’m an ibanez guy myself. I’ve had so many different guitars over the years, and the prestige ibys are just spot on.

NIce playing, but I think you wasted your money. I'm listening through studio monitors and I can barely tell the difference and to me, it seems like it's nothing that couldn't be done with some eq.
There is definitely a difference... the new pickups have a lot more bite, presence, and clarity. The old ones def don't sound bad, but the new ones just sound more alive and inspiring

This has been my main guitar since 2020 and the frets are still fine, even with the big string gauge.

Did you find that the sustain improved? That is my only problem I find with the stock pickups on my 550.
Hard to tell. What I feel though is that they "sing" more on leads because of their harmonic richness, which is really pleasant.
