I remember back in the late 1960's and early 1970's always playing with my Hotwheels in the dirt. I'd make little roads and, if I had to move dirt to build a road through, I'd use firecrackers for it. My favorite place was a large hole where a stump was removed. During the hottest parts of the summer, that stump hole was filled with water and would sit in the mud within it. There are times when I miss the way life was 45 years ago... hooking up the horse to the carriage and trotting down the road, climbing trees, playing in the mud... There was a time I buried many coins in two locations when playing "pirate" but I never went back to dig them up. It would be fun to explore where I once lived though the house, built in 1901, is no longer there. Imagine the treasure that can be found there!
Same here...we were never in the house during the day. Mom had to threaten our lives to get back home at night. lol. Even in the winter we would be out running around and building snowforts and stuff.
@@dougc.3497 Indeed! Was always told to be back in the yard when in starts getting dark. Back then, it was, "aw mom, do I have to go in?!" Now, it's kids that are saying, "aw mom, do I have to go outside?!" Oh, and the snow forts! Great times! We'd go to Monk's Mounds and sled down one of the mounds there. Or, diving off the CB tower into an 8 to 10 foot snow drift on the side of the house. Definitely a different time, a time well missed!

Well it wasn't that ever-elusive gold coin, but you were giggling and having fun finding those cars. And that's the best part about detecting, you never know what you're going to find, but as long as you're having fun doing it.
"I don't care what I find, I just like finding stuff." I think, and hope, that's the attitude of many of your fans. Its certainly mine. Thank you for again showing the fun of the adventure, telling the stories and sharing the moments.
I cannot believe RUclips have only just recommend you're channel to me. It's brilliant. I love your energy as well. So happy. Thank u for sharing all the find u make with us
This has been so great to see this plantation and the artifacts you are finding, even if some are just more modern kids toys. I have been following along on your adventures while reading my hubbies 3rd grt. grandpa's Civil War letters. He was a surgeon with the 11th Indiana Vol. Inf. Reg. at Carrollton/ New Orleans in May of 1864. He didn't think much of General Banks, but had much respect for Grant. Having never been to New Orleans myself, it has been splendid to see the same country he would have been in and experienced as a soldier. I hope you do find more Civil War related items, but just seeing this place has been so interesting and enjoyable. It is so steeped in history. Thanks a bunch! Have a great day!
The bell looks like the remains of a front door bell. Twist the little handle outside on the front porch and the bell rings inside. You have visitors!!
I came down to the comments to say the same thing. I have one of those on my front door (though it isn't as ornate). Most people don't know what the little key in the middle of the door is so if I hear a ring instead of a knock I know that it is probably someone I know.
Good day Chigg! I really have enjoyed your NOLA adventures. I go over there to Oschner's. It is pretty fascinating over there. I live in Pensacola, Fl. But when I go over for doctor appointments I try to go see things. Thanks for sharing. It was pretty cool all the cars. Made me want to go detect at my parents house. Lol
Those cars are mainly from the early 70’s. The car you pulled out at 21:34 is a hot wheels 68 charger from 1968. That one is worth some money if it wasn’t ruined
Yeah, it's weird to see the water table so high. I mean, short of living in a swamp, that's as close as you get. You'd think the original plantation owners would've changed the earth over time to get better land. I mean, i would've and i know it's a thing they did back in the day, at least in Europe.
We have a small buried dump in our backyard, both from an old store that burned down and from relatives in the past. Back then garbage collection was limited and it was before environmental stuff was put into place. Also handing down toys or donating them wasn't as common. It was common to bury your garbage. We dug the hill up a little after removing tree's to re-level it, I was amazed by how many toys and stuff were in it. In fact they use to be toys from some relatives when they were kids. I found about 300 bottles/ jars in that hill in GOOD shape, while not very old they were still collectables. Some even had labels still on them because they were being protected by the old fabric trash bags.
I collect hotwheels/toy cars, and would love to give some information on the ones you found, if you see this comment and are interested hmu i'd love to tell you what the cars are your looking at more but from what i could tell, while they were really dirty, about half where hotwheels half were matchbox most where made in the 70s, I think i saw a few redlines; hotwheels from 1968-1972 and i saw a bunch of blackwalls; hotwheels from 72-the early 90s. the reason there refered to as redlines/blackwalls is because hotwheels of the specific era all had the same wheels. i also saw some matchbox (lesneys) such as the dumptruck and what I think was a green jaguar. anyways if your intreasted in learning which hotwheels you found/if you find ones in the future hmu. :)
Awesome! I was going to guess it might be a big old (half) brass doorknob. That was going to be my S.W.A.G. - my scientific wild-@ss guess. 😄 Your story's better, I think! 😊
I was browsing Netflix and came across a movie called "Homefront". Much to my surprise I noticed a large amount of the movie was filmed at Magnolia Lane Plantation, they even included the bottle tree in the film.
When I was a kid (back in the Stone Age) I had a small collection of Matchbox cars. I got them at a little mom-n-pop hobby store that sold model cars, radio parts, and railroad sets - and 45rpm single records, AND candy =8^O I recall the Matchbox cars sold for about 50 cents, and they had a lot of models. That was fun, although I was never real fond of the new Hot Wheels cars. 😏 I had a lot of old marbles, too, mostly cat-eyes like the ones 'Chigg found. Used to have fun playing marbles with the boys who lived behind us. Gawd that was a long time ago! Guess you could call me "vintage" 😆
I stole 100s of HW, MB Kenner, and found marbles in a creek once a flood came and a light blue vw bug floated down the creek and a brown ford maverick ended up in the baseball park parking lot mostly I stole in winter and had a big parka to hide them in some were capped wheels most were straight axle no sweet16s
I know civil war treasures are what you crave - but any thing found in the dirt is a treat :-) . Thanks much for sharing the other treasures, was a fun video.
That what you thought was a phone bell could also have been a door bell. When I was a kid my parents would take me to old people's houses, the houses were probably from just after the civil war, and the front door would have a decorated door bell mounted in the wooden door. It operated by a twist knob on outside of the door.
It's a spooown! It'ts a fork. I found lots of 70's/80's toy cars from my childhood. Some were bad shape, some were ok enough for the nephews to play with.
Dude cool history and awesome finds keep up the good work and also all the toys u find could I have them I turn the old cars into pieces of art by restoring them with new parts or the original parts if I have them and some times I make mad max cars out of them
Hey man thank you for the video I enjoyed it I wish I could find some old cars out there maybe I will come across some down the road and some old marbles to
Our family's ancestral home, which has about 150 some years now, under her belt, has two bricks (in walls we took down to bring her to her original configuration out of structural concerns) sown in, one with a cat paw, the other with a dog paw. I don't think they were intentionally put in, as in, out of superstition or something like that, but they happened to be on the exact same spot just opposite of the walls. Which would make them original to the structure of the old house. I mean, we're not certain, but eh, who knows, maybe back then, when the world was certainly smaller in terms of old folk beliefs, having bricks with animal paws was for luck or something. Certainly the two bricks are not structural, in fact, the dog paw, which is the deepest is cracked right down the middle.

Bryan Reinhart cool story , yea I did the same back in sixties and seventies. It was a different time , a lot less people and good times .

Some cool toy cars and marbles chigg! Loved the buttons and relics ya saved for the owners. Playing in the muddy waters in Mississippi was fun!
