Yes Well there were other Disney program blocks that actually did however shot commercials outside of the channel like ABC Kids and Toon Disney and Disney XD

It would be interesting to hear the Olsen twins weigh in on the conversation of the world of child actors. I know they likely never would because they don't really speak on it much but it would be a good conversation I think.
Please don't take this as a shot at you because I absolutely agree that it would be extremely interesting to hear the Olsen Twins' insight into this. And I can understand why people want to hear from them, because their story is crazy. But, I am a big proponent of the Olsen Twins' right to be left alone. They had no choice in their fame, and have continually had their privacy violated over and over again. If the Olsen Twins deciden to come forward it has to be on their terms. It is their story and their story alone. Alyson, Christie, Alexa Nikolas, and Jeanette McCurdy chose to come out with their stories on their own and should be applauded. But, we shouldn't be forcing other people to come out with their trauma. That trauma belongs solely to the person who experienced it and we need to respect that. I have seen a few youtubers as of late make accusations on behalf of the Olsen Twins regarding things they have never said or even alluded too. Even if these people are right that it the Olsen Twins' story to tell and no one has the right to speak for them unless specifically asked. I believe these people are well meaning but they are essentially profiting off someone elses' trauma and it is wrong.

Just a tiny note that it would be an interesting perspective especially because they were literally babies so they never really knew life before it. 100% respect to their privacy. I'm a big Elizabeth Olsen fan, and through watching her interviews it's clearly a boundary to not talk about or ask questions about her sisters time in Hollywood. They seem happy/content with the fashion things they're doing. Would only want to know if they were willing and wanting to talk about it.
Alyson is such a wonderful advocate. Not only does she understand and respect the multicultural influences around us, but also chooses to take accountability for when she messes up and *that* is so important. Shows extreme emotional intelligence and I really wish more people would explore that within themselves 💙

There is a jump here but all three of you have the same collective experience of Child Actors. There is no gap between. This was incredible, I need an expanded version of this conversation. You two so eloquently conveyed this conversation and I just want more of the two of you.
This was such a meaningful conversation and it really impacted me and the way I think about some things in my own life. I grew up with both of these incredible women, and like many kids, I had dreams of being like them and becoming a “Disney kid”. There were many arguments with my mom growing up that she wouldn’t let me move to LA and become a big star. Honestly now as a 30 year old woman I truly see that she was protecting me. And It’s not like she didn’t let me pursue those passions, she had me in theater classes and voice lessons and art classes. I like the way you guys talked about letting kids pursue the arts and also nurturing these creative qualities in ways other then just the entertainment industry. I’m grateful I had a mom who recognized that I was just too sensitive of a soul for that industry and that uprooting our family wasn’t worth it. Today I’m a writer and I perform in a local burlesque troupe in my spare time!!
I grew up with Alyson on the Missy videos, Suite Life, Mike’s, Cheaper by the Dozen, Step Up, Raven, Drake &Josh, and so much more. It’s heartbreaking knowing she was going through all that at the time, but I appreciate how candid she is. Plus she seems to be doing 10000% better. I am getting the app!

Is available everywhere mainly for free in every social media (podcast, instagram account, youtube accounts and so on) but also there are books on the topic such as the ones Christopher West and Jason Evert have written. You're going to love it.
Great episode! The part where Alyson talked about her vocal coach really touched me, I have been seeing my vocal coach for the past year and it has been immensely healing for me. She can tell if I’ve been having a hard week, has compassion for me when I’m exhausted from work, and has helped me unpack tons of ‘vocal baggage’ I have carried my whole life. I love her so much and she’s changed my life for the better, I would love to hear more about Christy’s vocal training experiences!
Thank you so much for this episode! You both spoke so eloquently and respectfully about the atmosphere you grew up in and the entertainment world around you. As a dancer myself, it was interesting to hear how we have improved in the in the industry, as well as talk about how much more we need to do to take care of those around us. Additionally, I loved hearing Alyson speak about how she was taught that as a white dancer partaking in an African American art form, you were allowed to experience, learn and grow in the hip hop world, but you must know the history and where it all came from. Tap dancers are also taught this concept as well and I appreciated that you educated others on this. I would absolutely love to hear another episode with the two of you (and Brendan, of course!).

I remember the That's So Raven episode that was supposed to be a backdoor pilot with Alyson Stoner, Skylar Samuels and Agnes from Suite Life of Zack and Cody. I wish that would have panned out. Alyson Stoner is an underrated actress and l loved her in Camp Rock and Suite Life.

This episode was healing to me. I asked to go into acting as a young kid and ended up falling into the typical trap of eating disorder/drug abuse. Everyone always told me to be a model and I spent puberty starving my body and trying to be perfect. I never really found any peace around it, either, because I asked for it. But I was just a kid, and yeah, I wanted to be a 100 things in a week. Thank you for giving me permission to see the trauma for what it is.
also i highly appreciate the respect of alyson on her knowledge of dance culture even within the united states she knows her craft and is so open to learning and understanding the spaces shes taking. she understands shes white and privilege but shes not just going to come in and start doing black hiphop dances that are probably more rooted to Atlanta or houston or even Chicago. she understands and I respect her!!!! :)

I love Alyson Stoner so much. Her advocacy work is amazing. She's speaks out against issues in the industry in such a candid yet palatable way. So many people don't want to confront these issues because it's really uncomfortable, so there's immense value in being able to speak about these things in a way that feels so approachable. The fact that she's always framing it in an optimistic way helps a lot. "Horrible things are happening in the industry and children are being traumatized, AND also let's see what we can do to remedy that" is such a productive way to frame it and I don't see it super often. I just know as she continues growing older she's going to grow into herself too and become such a fucking force to be reckoned with. I can't wait for the version of Alyson who's all out of fucks to give lol
For someone like me, at 38, who grew up watching Disney, and still sort of follows the careers of Disney actors who are now around my age like you Christy, and Raven Symone, and Hilary Duff this is educating me. Because looking in from the outside, having had a "normal" or "regular" childhood, for lack of a better term, I would never have guessed how bad it could be. I think many of us understand that it can be difficult and that a lot of issues or things can occur where there is a lack of supervision or lack of awareness of how the industry affects children. For example Drew Barrymore and Jodie Foster, both of who were in the industry very young and were exposed to a very adult world. But, to really understand all the intricacies of the pain and trauma that can occur when so much is expected of a child, especially when they are forced to essentially grow up on screen in front of the world. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing this with us!
It makes me angry and sad that children are still being subjected to an environment that chews up and spits out adults on the regular. I just want to give y'all a big hug and thank you. If there is one good thing about social media, it's that people who have suffered trauma are able to find their support community. I am grateful that you have chosen to share your experiences with us.

My GOD. You've really changed my whole perspective on so many things, yall. I've loved this discussion. I remember struggling with an abusive mom, absent dad always working (but wanted to be home with his kids, mom needed money for drugs), isolated with no connection to the outside world - Disney Channel was my outlet to the real world. I'm not exaggerating, my mom believed the world was horrendously evil and everything would pollute our brains. She let us watch VERY few Disney Channel shows/movies (we weren't allowed to watch the commercials bro), but the few we could watch were Even Stevens, Hannah Montana, Suite Life, couldn't watch Raven unfortunately because my mom was racist. Those shows were where I learned how to be a human, literally. And I too wanted that famous life, obviously because that was the only thing I was consuming. We were poor as shit, and all I wanted was to make money. At 8. I feel some kind of comfort hearing the true details of what yall were going through while I was watching you guys thinking yall had the perfect lives. If I had known that the only people I knew, which were you guys, were going through similar emotions, it would have blown my mind. Having the veil removed changes SO much for me and my relationship with Disney, and the way I watch those shows now. I've seen ex Disney stars talk about their experience, but this discussion has truly been my favorite because of all the information and revealing of what truly went on.

I adore Alyson Stoner. I am someone who studied dance within both the "studio" and "street" communities. Because of this, I had already followed her -- she has such a profound sense of openness and curiosity for dance. Although as I started to listen to her more through her Instagram page, I learned so much about her journey to unlearn these social toxicities and understand herself more deeply. I feel like every interview she does is so enlightening. She connects with people in such a way that fosters community and empathy, is so candid about her privilege, has totally done the work to educate herself in so many ways, and truly seems like a genuine person. Love her!

I read Impulse by Ellen Hopkins as a child (never let your children read her "teen" books!), and became VERY sui**dal. I became depressed and obsessed with the idea that I didn't belong here. We must be so careful what we show our kids, and even as adults we should be aware of what stories we're telling. Do they help, or are we just wading in the pool of pain? That's not helpful!

Such a fantastic point in regards to AAVE. I am a white woman who grew up as the minority in my traditionally black neighborhood in the creole south. I grew up speaking AAVE, or Ebonics as we called it back in the day, and code switching. My 10 yr old son tried to speak like me and I told him he was too white. He lives and is growing up in suburban Nashville around country folk 😅
This makes me glad I never pursued acting or modeling for my oldest. We had another momager come up to us saying my child would be great in acting. Childhood is so important! Glad I’m protective

Thank you for being so transparent, uplifting, and really explaining how you’ve worked through your trama. I feel like much of my life was overly structured because I was in private school, in every sport possible, working in theater, I scheduled my time down to the minute for much of my life and it’s definitely been a struggle adjusting to taking life a little more slowly, having to say no a lot more often now that I’m disabled. I feel constantly anxious because I don’t think I do enough even though my physical and mental load are so limited. Just listening to your struggles and your thought process is so calming and comforting thank you for sharing!

Regarding Euphoria, as a young mom with a high school student, it’s been interesting to experience such a heavy show together. I think the things that are really triggering and hard for me to watch are a bit easier for her because I was able to shield her from a lot do the trauma that I’ve been through. But a lot of the things in the show that I, personally, was comfortable with, were maybe a little upsetting or triggering for her because of her own experiences in high school today and what it’s like for her. It really is subjective and I fully understand why people don’t want to watch the show or put themselves through it.

This was such a meaningful conversation and it really impacted me and the way I think about some things in my own life. I grew up with both of these incredible women, and like many kids, I had dreams of being like them and becoming a “Disney kid”. There were many arguments with my mom growing up that she wouldn’t let me move to LA and become a big star. Honestly now as a 30 year old woman I truly see that she was protecting me. And It’s not like she didn’t let me pursue those passions, she had me in theater classes and voice lessons and art classes. I like the way you guys talked about letting kids pursue the arts and also nurturing these creative qualities in ways other then just the entertainment industry. I’m grateful I had a mom who recognized that I was just too sensitive of a soul for that industry and that uprooting our family wasn’t worth it. Today I’m a writer and I perform in a local burlesque troupe in my spare time!!

Is available everywhere mainly for free in every social media (podcast, instagram account, youtube accounts and so on) but also there are books on the topic such as the ones Christopher West and Jason Evert have written. You're going to love it.
Great episode! The part where Alyson talked about her vocal coach really touched me, I have been seeing my vocal coach for the past year and it has been immensely healing for me. She can tell if I’ve been having a hard week, has compassion for me when I’m exhausted from work, and has helped me unpack tons of ‘vocal baggage’ I have carried my whole life. I love her so much and she’s changed my life for the better, I would love to hear more about Christy’s vocal training experiences!
Thank you so much for this episode! You both spoke so eloquently and respectfully about the atmosphere you grew up in and the entertainment world around you. As a dancer myself, it was interesting to hear how we have improved in the in the industry, as well as talk about how much more we need to do to take care of those around us. Additionally, I loved hearing Alyson speak about how she was taught that as a white dancer partaking in an African American art form, you were allowed to experience, learn and grow in the hip hop world, but you must know the history and where it all came from. Tap dancers are also taught this concept as well and I appreciated that you educated others on this. I would absolutely love to hear another episode with the two of you (and Brendan, of course!).

This episode was healing to me. I asked to go into acting as a young kid and ended up falling into the typical trap of eating disorder/drug abuse. Everyone always told me to be a model and I spent puberty starving my body and trying to be perfect. I never really found any peace around it, either, because I asked for it. But I was just a kid, and yeah, I wanted to be a 100 things in a week. Thank you for giving me permission to see the trauma for what it is.
also i highly appreciate the respect of alyson on her knowledge of dance culture even within the united states she knows her craft and is so open to learning and understanding the spaces shes taking. she understands shes white and privilege but shes not just going to come in and start doing black hiphop dances that are probably more rooted to Atlanta or houston or even Chicago. she understands and I respect her!!!! :)

I love Alyson Stoner so much. Her advocacy work is amazing. She's speaks out against issues in the industry in such a candid yet palatable way. So many people don't want to confront these issues because it's really uncomfortable, so there's immense value in being able to speak about these things in a way that feels so approachable. The fact that she's always framing it in an optimistic way helps a lot. "Horrible things are happening in the industry and children are being traumatized, AND also let's see what we can do to remedy that" is such a productive way to frame it and I don't see it super often. I just know as she continues growing older she's going to grow into herself too and become such a fucking force to be reckoned with. I can't wait for the version of Alyson who's all out of fucks to give lol
For someone like me, at 38, who grew up watching Disney, and still sort of follows the careers of Disney actors who are now around my age like you Christy, and Raven Symone, and Hilary Duff this is educating me. Because looking in from the outside, having had a "normal" or "regular" childhood, for lack of a better term, I would never have guessed how bad it could be. I think many of us understand that it can be difficult and that a lot of issues or things can occur where there is a lack of supervision or lack of awareness of how the industry affects children. For example Drew Barrymore and Jodie Foster, both of who were in the industry very young and were exposed to a very adult world. But, to really understand all the intricacies of the pain and trauma that can occur when so much is expected of a child, especially when they are forced to essentially grow up on screen in front of the world. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing this with us!

My GOD. You've really changed my whole perspective on so many things, yall. I've loved this discussion.
I remember struggling with an abusive mom, absent dad always working (but wanted to be home with his kids, mom needed money for drugs), isolated with no connection to the outside world - Disney Channel was my outlet to the real world. I'm not exaggerating, my mom believed the world was horrendously evil and everything would pollute our brains. She let us watch VERY few Disney Channel shows/movies (we weren't allowed to watch the commercials bro), but the few we could watch were Even Stevens, Hannah Montana, Suite Life, couldn't watch Raven unfortunately because my mom was racist.
Those shows were where I learned how to be a human, literally. And I too wanted that famous life, obviously because that was the only thing I was consuming. We were poor as shit, and all I wanted was to make money. At 8.
I feel some kind of comfort hearing the true details of what yall were going through while I was watching you guys thinking yall had the perfect lives. If I had known that the only people I knew, which were you guys, were going through similar emotions, it would have blown my mind. Having the veil removed changes SO much for me and my relationship with Disney, and the way I watch those shows now. I've seen ex Disney stars talk about their experience, but this discussion has truly been my favorite because of all the information and revealing of what truly went on.
The Brooke shields she tried to sue the photographer as an adult and the judge said it’s art and she couldn’t do anything about it. Infuriating.

I adore Alyson Stoner. I am someone who studied dance within both the "studio" and "street" communities. Because of this, I had already followed her -- she has such a profound sense of openness and curiosity for dance. Although as I started to listen to her more through her Instagram page, I learned so much about her journey to unlearn these social toxicities and understand herself more deeply. I feel like every interview she does is so enlightening. She connects with people in such a way that fosters community and empathy, is so candid about her privilege, has totally done the work to educate herself in so many ways, and truly seems like a genuine person. Love her!

We must be so careful what we show our kids, and even as adults we should be aware of what stories we're telling. Do they help, or are we just wading in the pool of pain? That's not helpful!

Such a fantastic point in regards to AAVE. I am a white woman who grew up as the minority in my traditionally black neighborhood in the creole south. I grew up speaking AAVE, or Ebonics as we called it back in the day, and code switching. My 10 yr old son tried to speak like me and I told him he was too white. He lives and is growing up in suburban Nashville around country folk 😅
This makes me glad I never pursued acting or modeling for my oldest. We had another momager come up to us saying my child would be great in acting. Childhood is so important! Glad I’m protective

I just found this podcast and I am already a huge fan! I already love listening to Alison and her RUclips channel so I’m excited to binge yours when I’m anxious. Thank you for being so transparent, uplifting, and really explaining how you’ve worked through your trama. I feel like much of my life was overly structured because I was in private school, in every sport possible, working in theater, I scheduled my time down to the minute for much of my life and it’s definitely been a struggle adjusting to taking life a little more slowly, having to say no a lot more often now that I’m disabled. I feel constantly anxious because I don’t think I do enough even though my physical and mental load are so limited. Just listening to your struggles and your thought process is so calming and comforting thank you for sharing!

Regarding Euphoria, as a young mom with a high school student, it’s been interesting to experience such a heavy show together. I think the things that are really triggering and hard for me to watch are a bit easier for her because I was able to shield her from a lot do the trauma that I’ve been through. But a lot of the things in the show that I, personally, was comfortable with, were maybe a little upsetting or triggering for her because of her own experiences in high school today and what it’s like for her. It really is subjective and I fully understand why people don’t want to watch the show or put themselves through it.
