  • This is the Part 2 of the roof problem video we posted about 6 months ago, if you haven't watched that yet, click the link below and see what we found and in this video we talk about what bmw did and how you can potentially save thousands
    Owning BMW like this makes you feel cool and it looks can be pretty cool! The way it transforms is eye catching, something like the transformers, the sound of the exhaust is absolutely beautiful and the breeze you get with the open top is unbeatable. But see people are so quick to point out the positives without paying attention to the cons of owning a BMW with the hardtop convertible equipped. before you buy these cars watch this video and rethink or at-least be prepared to spend loads on repairs.
    if you are going to buy one of these cars Do remember to clean and lubricate the moving components of the hardtop, clean the rubber seals at-least every 6 months, failing to do this can end up costing you thousands in repair cost

    ALL DONE! HURRAY! TOP IS WORKING. Doing the happy dance. Replaced the regulator, motor and vapor barrier.The motor had signs of rust, wire was kind of shredded and the bimmer repair shop (not the dealer) took care of it. He said he sees a lot of this problem AND gave a 3 yr guarantee. That was a nice plus. Thank you topgear Hayes for all info you provided as well as your followers.

    I bought one November 2021. Waterlogged by Feb 2022. Started having electrical problems. Replaced electrical modules and seals as described. Over £1000. Not as bad as £5000 from bmw!

    I have an F33, also had issues with water ingress, but in the rear quarter, then the roof stuck half open, because of the window regulator cable had snapped, I managed to fix it myself, by installing a used regulator, which cost me £100, I have since drilled both the drainage holes, and no issues, I regularly clean my seals with Gummi pflege, and WD any of the moving parts.

      @@TGHCUSTOMS Thanks for highlighting the issues with your customers car, and am pleased BMW made a huge financial contribution towards the modules being replaced, bit of a worry though, seeing water ingress even after the work had been done, hopefully this gets resolved.

      My F33 roof got stuck, fortunately it was 37 degrees, despite my best efforts, it had to go to BMW who diagnosed the tailgate boot latch had failed, the roof switch was absolutely dead, after me trying to get the roof up, no sign of life, I was so sure it was a wiring issue, or sensor/switch, BMW reset the fault codes, and roof was able to be closes again even despite the boot open being displayed on dash, new tailgate locking assembly being installed tomorrow, £711.00 ouch.....

      I heard like something had snapped during pulling windows down. Rear side window not operating anymore, but hear motor still rolling and bashing something, i recon the line has snapped. Would i be able rewind new line myself you think ?

    • @macmad6959
      @macmad6959 4 месяца назад

      @@Takie_Tam_Filmiki you won’t get the tension, you need a new regulator, so I am guessing you don’t have the roof down to enable to get the regulator out?

  • @mikepace7789
    @mikepace7789 2 года назад +3

    You cannot diagnose a fault by watching a video bu I have a similar experience with the same problem where the seal on the air vent inside the boot became dislodged letting water in. The air vent is behind the rear bumper cover on the drivers side and it becomes dislodged if the bumper is knocked/banged from the side. This only needs to be a slight knock from the side but it can cause a leak and a large build up of water inside the boot. Early signs of this problem are condensation build up or musky smells. I would recommend a new vent/seal and small drain hole in case the air vent seal is ever knocked again in the future. Obviously the major cost is the consequential damage to the electrics

    • @macmad6959
      @macmad6959 4 месяца назад

      You will also get water ingress into the boot if the rear regulator seal which covers the bolt is left removed, it’s like a waterfall into the battery compartment, and rear seat.
      Ensure the rubber grommet or seal is installed when tightening up the regulator bolt.

    428ix - roof problems. Dealer says drain holes have to be enlarged and sealed AND a new motor for the window because it was probably shorted by water (the drain plug saga). $240 for this fix.....NUTS! why isnt bmw taking care of this nasty problem? @@junaizzz275 no I didn't want to push my luck so took to roof specialist Cayman in Redhill cost 580 but included the whole regulator change. I think it's a common issue some of the water stays under the regulator which damage the strings, it's not like the usual wear and tear but moving forward will just cover the car on the rain etc.

    • @moarbi1

      Some people that the driving experience you get with the top down is worth the drawbacks of having a convertible.
      This seems a bit deeper than a "drawback" so "drawback" seems like an understatement...
      I was aware that it was a potential risk, but I was hoping that it wasn't a common one... crazy how such a big manufacturer could let this go on...
