A Letter to Garret.
I watch your vids, and i have followed you from nearly the start, and being a Navy man, It fills my heart with joy as i watch you sail your creation out to sea. Every board, every cut, all by your hands. Your refusal to cut corners and go the easy route because you have an inner vision of what your ship will be, how it will handle , and how it will sail. YOU have created something that dates back to a time when men sailed the world, with no real need to ever touch land again. But......YOU sir have one thing they did not.
At your side is a woman, with a smile that comes from deep inside JUST from looking at you. Her eyes sparkle as she pauses a moment just to take in the feeling she is having right that moment.
MOST men will never know what you have there Sir. I know i never will. And i dont think im alone in living, just a little bit, vicariously through you.
I guess you could say, when i watch your vid, im sailing with the prettiest girl in the world, and a one of a kind ship that has a soul in every inch of her timbers.
and for that, i just wanted to write just to you, and thank you from the bottom of my heart. Been a while since ive been to sea.....30 years now........but i was there again today.

My heart leapt and tears of joy came as I watched wind breath life into Redaveva for the very first time. I have been following you folks from almost day one and you do such a great job of sharing your experiences with us all. I would like to congratulate you both on a fine job you have done. Every inch of her shows the extra attention to detail and craftmanship. She's more than a boat, she has soul, and from what you shared with us, everyone who knows anything about boats see's it as well.

Congratulations to you Ruthie and Garrett... You just brought a 65 y/o man to tears. I've been watching your videos from day one and I can honestly say that your videos are the most moving of all the sailing/adventure videos I watch (this includes Delos, La Vagabonde, Ran Sailing, The Wynns, Drenched, FTB, Old Sea Dog, Catalpa, Tula's etc. etc. etc., you get the picture). I'm a big fan of George Buehler's designs to the point, before his passing, I had dinner with him at the Trawlerfest boat show in Anacortes, WA to discuss his boats and I even traveled to China to visit the SHM shipyard to discuss the building of his famous Diesel Duck. The look in Ruthie's eyes, along with her smile, and then to hear you say "You haven't really seen us, this is who we are..." truly was an emotional moment for me and I'm sure for 100% of your loyal viewers. Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Ruth and Garrett, I'm almost lost for words,but not quite! I'll first say Thanks to Archiodigger for saying nearly everything I think about you three and your boat.
It is not only a fantastic achievement, but incredible workmanship, too. The finish of the whole project is stunning. You Are a perfectionist, Garrett. It's such a pleasure to see not only the huge amount of work that you and Ruthie have put into it, but also the pleasure on your faces as the boat started moveing, in this latest video. I couldn't stop the tears when seeing the joy come over both. Six years is a huge amount of time and effort to put into anything. I could carry on singing your praises and still fall short of the admiration and respect I have for you both and the love and respect you have for each other.
I feel sure that you will have a great many splendid years of travel, excitement and happiness in the furture. You deserve them.

I'm amazed at the amount of critics who tell Garrett and Ruthie what they have done wrong=after it's all finshed.
I would have thought that after six years of hard work, all that they deserve is a fantastic amount of praise for a splendid job building a boat that looks absolutely great. How about credit where credit is due? As long as they enjoy it for many years to come, they will have accomplished what they set out to do. Good luck and happy times to them.

That is just a fantastic first voyage! I feel like I know Garrett and Ruth and they are good friends now; even though I have only watched them on you tube. I have watched the ship being built. I can feel the energy and emotion in this first sail. I look forward to so much more.
I have to admit that I didn't believe at first that you could really do it! Building a sailboat from scratch is an ENORMOUS job, typically six to ten craftsmen a year or more. And you two did it almost entirely single-handed! AMAZING; bravo-zulu!! And God Bless!

After watch you two for all this time, we were privileged to come along for Rediviva's first sail. Thank you guys for allowing us a small window into such a great event. The joy you guys are feeling must be beyond imagination. Congrats. You have reached an awesome milestone. I can’t sail any longer but I will never forget the very first time I felt the wind fill all the sails at one time while aboard what used to be HMS Rose, on the northeastern edge of Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 in the year 2000. Seeing you guys swell up with pride of your accomplishments is a great thing to see. Happy sailing Pirate Garrett.

There is something so special about seeing pure joy caught on film. Some might say you guys are lucky to have your life, to have each other, to have Rediviva, but nothing about it is luck, you've worked your tails off for it, and you can see all that sacrifice being paid back in the way Ruth's eyes lit up when Garret surprised her untying the lines, or the look on Garrets face as he stood on the deck box helming the boat. Here I am at work, a 48 yo man, wiping away tears, hoping no one sees them so I don't have to try to explain it to them. lol Can't wait to see where you all go!
