The way the trends and the “next big thing” come and go so quickly I honestly think they are running out of gimmicks to try to get us to give them our money. It’s getting weird out there 😬
This. Like it’s one thing if it’s a big business copying a small business but copying a major brand that pricey to make a product that’s similar and a much better price point I don’t have any issue with.
And a lot of times, the "dupe" does it better....so is it really a dupe or is it just a better product in uninspired packaging. Even Abby said the cream in the pink tub was actually better than SdJ. Affordability and accessibility are important.
What I always appreciate about your channel is that you're not afraid to tell us that items from brands aren't the best or you wouldn't purchase them again, even if you love and highly recommend other things from the same brand. Sometimes I think influencers are afraid to talk less favorably about products from brands who they have a relationship with in some way, shape, or form...and that's a really long winded way of saying thanks for being truthful and trustworthy. I have loved many of your recommended products!
I’m a big oil cleanser girl and I’m actually very picky about them in ways that I can’t quite articulate. The texture has to be *just right* to get the sebaceous filaments. Just got the prequel one last week and already it’s my favorite. I steam my face, dry it, then turn on a show and massage with it for like 10-20 minutes and wow it is effective.
@ good question! No, I do a quick first cleanse, then the oil, then another cleanse. I know it’s a lot but the first cleanse takes as long as the steamer does to heat up :)
Hi Abbey! Can you consider these ideas? - Effects of hard water on skin and hair. The science of how it interacts with that and your products - Weather changes in combination with hard water - Sun damage on hair, what to do to repair and protect - I found out I was struggling with these and it rendered my products and routines useless, despite doing everything right with products, application, and hair and skin type. Can't find a lot of people talking about these things. I think more people deal with this and they're not aware. Thanks for reading :)
I recommend the malibu hard water crystal packets! They work wonders and makes my hair look and feel amazing as it takes out the brassy look that hard water can cause on bleached hair. Olaplex no. 7 bonding oil has a uv protectant in it so I would recommend that for summer days
Omg hard water is the worst. Was struggling with flaky scalp and body acne flare ups (thought it was just my skin). It has improved drastically after changing showers. My city in general is known for hard water which sucks bc maybe it’s the cause of other people skin conditions as well
Basically minerals building up on hair. Blocks the water from penetrating which can lead to dry brittle hair. Layering Too many products without clarifying can do that as well. The minerals interfere with the efficacy of shampoo and other products. Like super dirty hair binding to the shampoo and cannot create a lather at first. Minerals bind to the products as well. I guess her explaining with pictures might be clearer. Like everyone said chelating shampoos are a must as well as filter.
I always apply cleansing oils by hand and rub them in gently. Then I get my hands wet and rub my face again without rinsing to emulsify the oil/makeup. This breaks down the makeup and turns the oil milky and watery before rinsing off - which is the third step. I only use oils that will emulsify and wash off cleanly. Have you ever tried it that way rather than with a washcloth? I think it would be more gentle and the oil would be more effective than only rubbing it on - just a suggestion. :)
Reminds me of the time she reviewed the Asian lip stains/tints, where she used lip gloss on top, invalidating the review to most people. I edited my comment because the original one had a way more harsh approach, which was probably unnecessary.
I agree and use cleansing oil like original commenter. I imagine using a cloth would absorb a lot of the product and impact the effectiveness of the oil. I’d love to see her try this again without the cloth to see if it changes her review, especially regarding eye makeup removal.
I'm always impressed with how thoroughly you review products! I must say I am so glad u mentioned the Loreal setting spray being a mini hairspray because that's exactly what I've said, and I can't believe how many people on social media "like" it.
I love the elf fine as fleck glitter toppers! Their big mood mascara is also one of my favorites!!! My lashes are very long and tend to fall very quickly. This is the ONLY mascara where my lashes don't fall, and the formula is amazing and doesn't flake off at all. It's so worth it and it's my all time favorite from elf!
Of all the beauty RUclipsrs, you do the most, and I love it. The commitment and time to testing products is so admirable and appreciated ❤ Also, that blue looks stunning on you!
Wow, just subscribed … I feel late to the game but I’ve been watching beauty RUclips for over a decade and this is my favorite review format. In depth genuine coherent reviews with demos ?!? Drugstore focused?!?!? Sign me up
I’m so excited about the new Prequel launches. I’m definitely buying the new face wash and cleansing oil. I absolutely love the gleanser! It’s unbelievable how soft it leaves my face when I’m done washing
10:09 as someone who is super pale, i’ve been loving the strawberry jam blush from physicians formula!! it’s really pigmented, blends beautifully, and offers a super natural look on my pale skin ❤️
Ok, your background is so so so cute. I LOVE that it is a nostalgic Christmas display and not 2024 generic December decor that looks like it came from an AI generated idea of Christmas decorations.
I don’t see a problem with brands copying other brands. If a brand doesn’t want to be copied, they can file for a patent. The ones being copied are being targeted because their prices are over-inflated…so this is basic free market economics. It should be allowed. I mean…this is how we got affordable eyeshadows. Marlena Stell built a following and launched a brand offering $8 single pan eyeshadows. She single-handedly got MAC to reduce the price of their singles from $16 down to $8 or $10 (before they stopped selling them entirely). Free market economics for the win. A lot of us are never going to buy the overpriced versions anyway.
Exactly. Most of these "high-end" brands use the same ingredients and formulas as many drugstore brands, it's all a name and status thing. I think sure- maybe it's unoriginal and a bit boring to see the same products redone 20 times, but it's not morally wrong or anything.
you might have gotten a bad one. mine does start to smell a little sour when it's been used for a while or opened enough times. i would suggest going to Target and smelling one on the shelf to see if you feel the same way if youre still interested?
the panorama mascara is probably my favorite release, the shape and length of my lashes have never looked so nice til now! sky high got close but not 100%!!! I’m on my 3rd tube!!!
5:27 last comment, I promise. In my research to replace the discontinued She-Laq from Benefit, a 15+ yr project, I finally learned that clear liquid hold products like mixing medium & certain types of setting spray ARE basically forms of hairspray. You’ll understand this more, I think you studied in a hair science program? Anyway I finally figured it out thru Dr Wong (LabMuffin) - there’s a setting spray that is just a hydration refresh, and there’s the “hold” kind. The hold kind uses AVP or PVP, maybe other options, that’s the hold ingredient & it’s used in hairspray as the hold as well. Except I’m seeing I have a hairspray without it. But it’s high on the inkey of my curl must. I hate this no inkey list on the container BS! Ok anyway, you’ll understand what I mean much better than I can say it lol, but the combo of alcohol & this AVP chemical is very effective, and pops up as noticeably feeling and smelling like hairspray in some face setting sprays, and I think I’m not the only person highly sensitive to that combo of alcohol & AVP/PVP. I have a nearly full bottle of mehron liquid that I may have to give away, my eye area now hates alcohol with a deep intensity lol. Anyway a video on hold in face/hair products, how it works in terms of skincare issues, how to prevent damage, find best formula, etc… would be awesome. I think the Dr Wong video was titled something about setting spray btw
It’s fascinating to learn the chemistry side of these products. Thank you for taking the time to share all that info. I love Labmuffin; I will have to go check out that video. 😊💖
Speaking of maple syrup, as someone who lives in Canada, our biggest province, Quebec, is facing issue of its decline of production due to the climate change.
I got ALL of the fine as fleck (elf) and wear them all...they are DIVINE!!!! I wear them alone and as a topper. No fallout for me....LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!
I almost blind bought overpriced big bottles of the EOS Vanilla cashmere and the fresh and cozy because the reviews were so positive (I live in Canada so it’s more expensive to get them here than in the US) thankfully I saw they had the small hand creams at Pharmaprix (Shoppers drug mart) so I bought them to try them out. The vanilla is okay, but there is a sour undertone to it… and the fresh and cozy smells like a worse version of maybe a Vaseline or St Ives that I used to have (that smelled good) but the EOS is more chemical smelling, sharp… so glad I only bought the hand creams! If you like them, that’s awesome I’m happy for you, but I’m leaving this comment in case someone else perceives them as I do
Agree with you on Naturium peptide cream. Very thick, almost impossible to spread on face. I tried to thin with serum - not a success. Plus it has an unpleasant plasticy odor. Using it up on my hands and feet. Back to the Aestura Atobarrier 375 Cream.
This video appeared on my recommended and after 20 mins of watching, I immediately subscribed. Absolutely love ur honesty and the high standards you set for makeup, and your beauty tips. So excited to binge watch ur vids 😌
With the NYX IV, if you scrape most of the excess product off from the applicator, it applies BEAUTIFULLY. Not too saturated yet still hydrating. It won't have the lacquered finish but it's so natural and flattering.
Thank you so so so SO much for making such a broad spectrum, detailed, and HONEST video about ALL of these products -- oh my goodness I found you because of this video, watch it in its entirety, and subscribed -- love, love, love
I recently found your RUclips channel after seeing your videos on TikTok! Your style of content is so easy to watch but completely thorough on whatever topic you’re covering! Even your old favourites videos are informative and helpful for products I was thinking of buying ✨👏🏻
The Ulta Collection Tidal Wave waterproof mascara is the best waterproof mascara I've ever used. I got it like 2 months ago and it's become my favorite. Makes my lashes super black and gives length & volume without clumps or looking spidery. I feel the exact same way about the Teddy Tints. I thought they were dry, heavy, my lips stuck together, it clung to any dry patch, it was difficult to remove.
I tried it in mauve n’ moist. I like it, it is very pigmented but I wipe most of the product off the applicator, then apply a bit more to build up the color. It’s really great as a ‘lip liner stain’. The longer it sits the more pigmented the satin is so I love it for that reason. Once it has stained I apply a lipgloss and good to go. Hope this helps ✌🏽
I feel like Ulta should have done like a creamsicle light orange for the packaging which would match their store branding way more and still be kinda fresh and current looking.
Emily's math bit. 🤣 I truly appreciate your drugstore beauty content! I almost never buy any beauty products that cost more than $25 depending on the product anymore. What baffles me is that there is no such thing as beautician makeup, or dermatologist skincare, but somehow there's salon haircare??
Great review, appreciate all the detailing.😎 by the way I love Naturium phyto glow and their Bio-lipid body lotion, and of course, the Glow getter body wash.
If you love the wet/shimmery look on your eyelids..... Just dampen a flat shadow brush with water, and drag it across a finely milled shimmer eyeshadow, and then apply it to your eyelids in a single motion from inside corner to outer. Then let it dry completely! Make sure this is the last step before you use your setting mist, and you'll be G2G.
Abby if you love the EOS strawberry dream lotion you will love the new Kayali Yum Boujii Marshmallow perfume. It smells just like a strawberry milkshake. I bought the travel size perfume and instantly bought the full size. It smells soooo good❤🍓
Eos body lotions are one of my faves and the fact the new scents are all just gone now is a bummer lol Also, full disclosure. I got naturewell body wash that is a dupe for bum bum... Its like a solid 98% match.
@@savysav4 Eucerin is made for people who have super dry, eczema prone skin. It's very hydrating. It doesn't smell the best though, I kind of hate the smell actually lol. But if you don't care about smell it's super moisturizing!
its so funny to me that Loreal made a "hairspray" style setting spray cause when I was in high school for musicals and recitals, I literally sprayed Loreal hair spray on my face to make my makeup last through all the dancing, costume changes, and hot lights so it's so perfect haha
im old school i only use powder products my skin is VERY oily cant imagine any creamy products on my skin and i have the olive tone tan skin shine is the LEAST i need thank you for reviewing all of these, youre brave
I love the Loreal Spray. The smell for me goes away fast and make up lasts beautifully. Also the Loreal shadow sticks set down for me and lasts all day with no creasing. I am not oily at all
Do you think that L’Oréal setting spray would keep makeup from getting on my coat collars? I am trying to find a setting spray that I can specifically put on my jaw/upper neck area, and I don’t mind if it smells like hairspray if it will lock everything in place. 😅
I used the product a couple times, and I’m almost certain this will keep makeup off collars…but my only concern would be possible flaking if you apply heavily. The locking power is SUBSTANTIAL. But it was very tightening even though I’m rather oily, and stuck to/highlighted the PCOS fuzz on my cheeks and jaw. If those aren’t concerns for you, this spray is super effective. Just apply sparingly at first if you do buy-I think my issues were due to my heavy hand!
@@GuerrillaGreenify thank you so much for sharing how the spray worked for you! I think I will pick some up and give it a try. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season. ❤️
That L’Oréal glassy highlight reminds me of the merit one, only difference is the merit does not last on the skin at all, literally doesn’t look like you applied anything an hour later. I’m excited for the L’Oréal
I have been watching your videos since 2020, and I know your videos are about how products work. But I would love to see a collection video. Mostly body care
I wish the demo of the NYX IV was one of the more neutral colors since the problem was their bold pigment, but the demo was the outlier bold shade among nudes...
Yes, I LOVE the EOS lotion! 🙌 Decided to give it a try a couple months ago since I wasn’t happy with others I’d been using. I got the fresh and cozy, and the scent is divine! It pairs wonderfully with my body sprays/perfumes. But even better, it’s helped my skin so much! I said goodbye to Jergens and I’m an EOS fan for life! 😁😂
Absolutely fantastic video !!!! Thank you Abby for saving me a few bucks !! ❤ Love, love your in depth reviews. And thank you for reviewing the Vaseline lotions, I’ve been wondering about them ! Bought both of them, perfect for summer in Florida. Love 💕 ❤
9:29 I think that’s the point. Us older gen z that feel like millennials+ as well as actual millennials+ will see it as cute as we are the kinds of people to shop at ulta. Younger gen z and gen alpha shop at Sephora and care more about the trends.
4:41 my head rant exactly! Who told the makeup people we wanted 16, 24, 36 hour hold? Who are they talking to???? You won’t be in trouble, but if you told the industry to make 24 hour makeup, just ‘fess up & explain yourself! (Sorry Abbey, I think I’m pretty funny this morning, feeling a little punchy after my elderly mom set a completely unnecessary 5 am alarm that sounded like an air raid siren…)
The L’Oréal shadow sticks… did you try applying them to bare lid? You only mention them on top of other things, but I always use shadow sticks on bare skin. A lot of shadow sticks don’t require a base or are made to work together, not with other products.
Oh MY GOODNESS, those Teddy Tints were awful. I bought 4 of them off the jump and they ripped my lips up badly! I called my dermatologist about what to do to fix them (he recommended nipple cream 😅 worked like a charm). I returned them and ordered the NYX...I love the NYX!!!
Fun fact, the pinks and oranges Ulta did their repackage with is what they call "Ulta Colors". They have very specific shades of pinks, oranges and purples they tie to their brand
I don't apply makeup everyday but when I do I never put primer. I hate the sticky feeling of it. It bugs me so, much I can't even function. I rather my makeup lasts not as long than applying primer. Recently my mother bought the Covergirl Clean Fresh Redness Neutralizer Primer. Because I have a lot of redness mostly at night. I tried it for a night event it wasn't sticky and it help with my redness. So, I will definitely try it again next week for a Christmas souper with family. I'll keep you posted.
Yeah the sticky aspect looks so uncomfortable! I’ve never tried them but just looking at the vidéo I can tell it’s not for me haha I’m okay using only a setting spray, it’s a nice refreshing step
Girllll!!!!! all your effort, I love you for this. The details and number of products you test are really something. Thank you for these amazing videos!!
Elf also had a blush and highlighter wand. I didn't love those because they made my makeup patchy but I LOVE the contour wand. I've repurchased several times since it released.
“Infused with maple syrup” ….”36 hour wear” I’m starting to think the makeup companies are trying to appeal to elves
Omg literally 😂😂
Elves, or Canadians. But they better not take all our syrup, we need that to live!
😂 Love this comment especially since that's my fave Christmas movie 😍
The way the trends and the “next big thing” come and go so quickly I honestly think they are running out of gimmicks to try to get us to give them our money. It’s getting weird out there 😬
You learn something every day. I had no idea elves wore make up 😜
I don’t mind brands “copying” other brands because it allows those who might not otherwise be able to try the product access. ❤
It also I feel like shows that some brands just charge too much because of the name.
Absolutely!
This. Like it’s one thing if it’s a big business copying a small business but copying a major brand that pricey to make a product that’s similar and a much better price point I don’t have any issue with.
It’s also basic free market competition…which has its flaws but has been shown again and again to the best option out there.
And a lot of times, the "dupe" does it better....so is it really a dupe or is it just a better product in uninspired packaging. Even Abby said the cream in the pink tub was actually better than SdJ. Affordability and accessibility are important.

oh wow that sounds fabulous I need to try it like that!!
Me too! Those made in Japan are the best. I think the thinner ones are the best to remove blackheads. The og Shu Uemura is a spot on.
@ agree about the thin texture! I love the klairs one too!
You steam your face with all your makeup/sunscreen on still? Then do the 10-20 min oil cleansing massage?
@ good question! No, I do a quick first cleanse, then the oil, then another cleanse. I know it’s a lot but the first cleanse takes as long as the steamer does to heat up :)

I do love the Loreal setting mist. It's very much a 'face hairspray' and works so well for me.
Ulta’s corporate/branding colors are pink and orange, so it tracks that they would make the new packaging align with that!

you just got me through a hefty load of washing the dishes🤣. thank you for your great reviews!
The NYX glue prmer and setting spray are great. You need to shake the crap out of the spray first
I think the elf bronzer looks great on you! I'm excited to give it a try
I thought I was alone in that I hate plumping glosses that leave lips burning or excessive mint scent to it
Emily's math bit. 🤣
I truly appreciate your drugstore beauty content!
Make sure this is the last step before you use your setting mist, and you'll be G2G.
i love the essence juicy bomb butter balm. i have the watermelon (red) shade and it’s my fav.
Abby if you love the EOS strawberry dream lotion you will love the new Kayali Yum Boujii Marshmallow perfume. It smells just like a strawberry milkshake. I bought the travel size perfume and instantly bought the full size. It smells soooo good❤🍓
i literally use the infallible setting spray as hair spray on my short hair and its really good
I hate it when companies add fragrance to products you use on your face.
Eos body lotions are one of my faves and the fact the new scents are all just gone now is a bummer lol
Also, full disclosure. I got naturewell body wash that is a dupe for bum bum... Its like a solid 98% match.
This was really helpful. I appreciate the depth you go to when something either works or doesn't work for you. Thank you!
14:15 reminds me of the Clinique chubby stick highlighter which I love! I'm definitely going to pick these up. Thank you! ❤
The ELF bronzer looks really nice! It has a little red to the shade and makes it look really sun kissed
Can’t use RMS LL because it contains coconut oil - so excited to try the L’Oréal Le Glass highlighter 😊
The EOS lotions are SO good, I love how it’s super moisturizing and still gives us great scents. My favorite is pink champagne and fresh&cozy
I just tried it after my shower tonight and I don’t think I’ve felt so deeply hydrated by a body lotion before…I’m sold!
@@savysav4 you’ve truly never tried Eucerin cream then. My sensitive skin can’t handle EOS lotion
@@KristenZianourry2015I haven’t! What’s your favorite?? I’d say I have normal-to-dry skin.
@@savysav4 Eucerin is made for people who have super dry, eczema prone skin. It's very hydrating. It doesn't smell the best though, I kind of hate the smell actually lol. But if you don't care about smell it's super moisturizing!
More drugstore content please!!! ❤
its so funny to me that Loreal made a "hairspray" style setting spray cause when I was in high school for musicals and recitals, I literally sprayed Loreal hair spray on my face to make my makeup last through all the dancing, costume changes, and hot lights so it's so perfect haha
im old school i only use powder products my skin is VERY oily cant imagine any creamy products on my skin
and i have the olive tone tan skin shine is the LEAST i need
thank you for reviewing all of these, youre brave
Abbey, I am one of your granny subscribers and absolutely adore your channel because you are so genuine and love your foibles!
can you do a low fragrance hair care favourites? I love your suggestions but I often get asthmatic in the shower with a lot of fragrances
That L’Oréal glassy highlight reminds me of the merit one, only difference is the merit does not last on the skin at all, literally doesn’t look like you applied anything an hour later. I’m excited for the L’Oréal
Please do a full Oribe review, all the products best to worst!
THANK YOU for pronouncing peony correctly! 2024 was the year of nobody knowing how to say that word 😂😂
"flimsy and bendy and if it was a little stiffer it would solve a lot of my problems" 🤣
4:28 i think i would love that on my T zone only.. can you test the spray on your T zone only and give us a feedback please 🙏🏻, Love your videos 🤍.
I have been watching your videos since 2020, and I know your videos are about how products work. But I would love to see a collection video. Mostly body care
Omg 2020 wow ❤ Will add to my list!
the ending “you’ll never see me again” 😂😂 you’re so funny
Thanks! Loooooved this!
I wish the demo of the NYX IV was one of the more neutral colors since the problem was their bold pigment, but the demo was the outlier bold shade among nudes...
I'm so glad you tried the teddy tints, now I don't have to! Thank you!!!
the l’oréal setting spray even LOOKS like hairspray. i would definitely grab the wrong thing by accident and that’s a problem!!
Absolutely fantastic video !!!! Thank you Abby for saving me a few bucks !! ❤ Love, love your in depth reviews. And thank you for reviewing the Vaseline lotions, I’ve been wondering about them ! Bought both of them, perfect for summer in Florida. Love 💕 ❤
Yay I hope you love them! They are perfect for Florida weather
Came here to defend Prequel after seeing it in the thumbnail 😂 glad to hear you love it. Prequel’s products are truly wonderful!
Prequel original cleanser in the MN winter is a revelation 😍
Ok I LOVE that song Cry for You by September!
The elf bronzer/contour does look beautiful on your skin. I prefer it to the nude stick on camera.
Exactly!! Why is that something brands brag about who's testing it to make those claims 😂
Which face powder did you use in the clip showing after you set the elf contour?
My favorite drugstore mascara is covergirl cleantopia mascara
The L’Oréal shadow sticks… did you try applying them to bare lid? You only mention them on top of other things, but I always use shadow sticks on bare skin. A lot of shadow sticks don’t require a base or are made to work together, not with other products.
I use the Neutrogena oil fragrance free too, to take off my makeup. Love it
Oh MY GOODNESS, those Teddy Tints were awful. I bought 4 of them off the jump and they ripped my lips up badly! I called my dermatologist about what to do to fix them (he recommended nipple cream 😅 worked like a charm). I returned them and ordered the NYX...I love the NYX!!!
Me personally… I think everyone’s packaging should be millennial pink😂
When i exited out of this tab, It said “I tested 33 New Drugs…” lmao
Can you please review the ordinary hair density peptide serum efficacy ? Love❤️
Thank you for this video! I love your reviews
Of course! Thank you so much for watching ❤️
Girllll!!!!! all your effort, I love you for this. The details and number of products you test are really something. Thank you for these amazing videos!!
You look great with that silvery sparkly eye lid color (when youre testing the milani cheek color with powder)
Elf also had a blush and highlighter wand. I didn't love those because they made my makeup patchy but I LOVE the contour wand. I've repurchased several times since it released.
I disagree with a lot of these products but that's what makes us unique 🎉
I love your hair color!
68 smells like a grandma fragrance to me. And get a horrible sinus headache
