    In the 60s I bought a BSA Bantam 125cc for the sum of £5, this included a helmet and gauntlets. It was my first motorcycle as I had just turned 16. I couldn't wait to get it on the road. The insurance was £3.10 shillings and the tax I think was about 10 shillings. I loved that bike, it gave me the freedom to go where I liked. I've had many motorcycles since the BSA Bantam, but It's the one I remember the most. They were good days to be young.

    When I was young, a mate's dad had a D10. It was the only transport the family had and his dad would use it for work every day...I think he worked in the stores at a local factory. He must of had it 30+ years. The dad died young...in his 50s and the bike was put in the shed. The mum rode a C90 and I used to see her ride off to her job at Boots. She died a few years later, before retirement age. I always wondered what happened to the bikes as my mate went to live in Australia before his mum died. A few years later, by chance, I got talking to the guy who did the house clearance at their house and was shocked when he said that both bikes had gone to the local dump as he couldn't be bothered to sell them. The mum and dad loved those bikes and it was such a shame...I think I learned a life lesson that day..

    1967 and I had my first bike, a Honda S90 Super Sport. A friend had a BSA Bantam 180 and we used to go riding together.
    With a pillion rider, my 90cc Honda would easily leave the 180cc Bantam with no pillion behind, especially uphill. That said it all.

    You’ve certainly restored her into a lovely machine and she is now something to be proud of ,but it does show what somebody with just a modest workshop can achieve so well done my friend ..............( now where did I see that Ariel Arrow ).......

    Wonderful!. Still have my D3 swingarm Bantam I bought when I was seventeen as a wreck and did a basic restoration to get it running with my Dad (now 55) Trying to restore it properly in his memory. Any chance of the chap in the hat doing a tutorial video on wheel building and how to seat engine bearings without a press!.

    A wonderful finished product. I had a Bantam 150 for years and remember it fondly. If only you had painted it the correct colour it would have been perfect.

      They came in Bantam green or black. Later swingarm D3 and D5 models offered grey or a maroon colour as well.

    Interested in doing this. I know nothing about motorcycles but I have friends that do. What is the approximate cost of parts in USD?

    Do you not think it woukd have been a good idea to cut the stupid music when you started it up for first time to let us hear the engine running. Seeing the bike on the road again was great but the engine woukd have been a lot nicer to listen to than silly music.

    its really hard to beleive now, but my dad rode a d3 to work everyday to pay the mortgage (£3000) circa 1968 and i watched him on a sunday afternoon as he fixed up his bike for the next weeks comute of about 12 miles each way and petrol was well below £1.00 a gallon. between myself and the other petrol heads at school we managed to strip down scooters, mopeds and anything that had a petrol engine and enjoy the freedom of being off road. i was lucky living in a rural location in the '70 s once or twice a cop car pulled up as i was pushing my bike to the woods and he would say take it back home, OK officer.

    Lovely video but why oh way the stupid music?

  • @meckanicall
    @meckanicall 7 лет назад +4

    Pretty good but in all honesty all you have done is strip the bike down and sent everything off to be done by someone else then rebuilt the wheels and reassembled it. You have not renovated the engine, and gearbox (combined)...renewed the wheel bearings, brakes, forks bushes, rear suspension, steering head bearings, done any tin work, metal polishing, rewiring etc etc. Basically you have just assembled a mass of "new (refinished)" parts...Quite simple in fact...Sorry I sound harsh, but you do say the film is a renovation video but it isn't.
