Another great video man! I was unfamiliar with his extensive work in Morocco. You should really be affiliate linking these books from the videos in the description - just ordered his Morocco book!
Awesome! That’s exactly why I’m doing this channel. I hadn’t heard of him until a couple years ago and couldn’t believe how under appreciated his work is.
That first bicycle shot in chapter 2. Wow. What to add, what to subtract. Loved how he said it. The beauty of banality. Love that. Sort of the opposite of what happens at the end of the Lord of the Rings. When Frodo gets home, it looks small and sucks. HG got home and thought, "Huh. Okay. I get it now." TV snapshots feels a tiny bit Moriyama. And after Morocco and India, he'd >have< to use color. I totally get it. Great video!
This, with the tweaking of the antenna and so on, feels more intentional than Moriyama's though. I sort of get what Moriyama was trying to convey with his series about the Watergate scandal and it's TV coverage, but on the other hand, I get the feeling that his hand might be doing the 'shutter button twitch' all the time and he just happened to be in front of the TV :D I don't know what to think of Moriyama in general though, it might just be my interpretation. I've been to a show of his and have seen many of his books and magazines, I respect his work but I'm still not quite sure of what to make of him.
i saw his books in the background of your videos and started to wonder when a video would come. its a great vid, it's bcs of him i started to take photography seriously. Great job!
More of these “Easter eggs” to come with all videos going forward to broadcast what’s coming next. Cool someone picked up on them. His work is great. I wish I could find more on the man himself, but there wasn’t much personal stuff that I came across.
@@developingtank seems like you found most of the important stuff already (the church part.) fun fact: his dad worked in a film factory and told Harry not to become a photographer because they are always with "girls". He has a documentary: www.thedarkroomrumour.com/en/film/harry-gruyaert-photographer-a-film-by-gerrit-messiaen it's great to see as a fan and also as a non fan
@@matthiasvangysel938 I have to get around to watching the doc. I bought it a while ago, but never want to heavily rely on other videos when making these so that I don’t end up too influenced by their ideas.
Also loooove that quote - "Being a photographer is a solitary quest because you have to be given the ability to follow your instincts and not worry about where the instincts of others will take you." Not sure if that is a mix of Harry and your own quote, but it's so important and needs to be heard.
@@andras_ikladi I resonate with that so much haha. I'm the same way. I remember parts of that from the Harry Gruyaert documentary. I guess I interpreted the quote more as in him not trying to be influenced by the work of others - but maybe it is more of a literal, physical sense of shooting alone.
It’s all him, but one that I do also completely agree with. Shooting with others can be fun, but nothing truly great photography wise comes out of those experiences imo
@@developingtank it trully is awesome work you ve put into this Street Smarts collection and i am huge fan! Been going through these daily and its been a phenomenal, informative and inspiring journey! Once again, Kudos!
Agree with the other comments .... good work. My only critique would be that your pace of speech is a little too quick and i feel like you are hurrying this great content. Or maybe it's my brain just doesn't move as fast as yours 😂
@andras_ikladi This is what I’m going for. I’m sure if you play it at a slightly slower speed it’ll sound fine, since I only use ambient music for the most part. If I go any slower my voice loses any sound of passion and I feel like I’m putting myself and others to sleep. I could easily stretch these videos to 30 minutes, but I’m not trying to waste my time or others and I want to push the idea of how many legends are truly out there as far as possible.
Seriously , this channel deserves more followers !!! The videos are so well put together , and love how you come across on camera ! Thank you
Thank you! It seems like it’s picking up traction. Please, share!
@@developingtank absolutely!! I know how much effort it takes to make these videos , they are incredible

No time wasted. Hell yeah bro!
Respect. I hate watching videos that beat around the bush and don't get to the point, so I don't want to do that to others.

I have one of his books mostly shots in Morocco and his color palette is quite brilliant and also how he manages to get people in the right places
I probably need to grab the Morocco books too seeing how he’s held it in such high regard.

The LOTR comp is great and I found it interesting that he and Moriyama were doing the same project at the same time without knowing. Thank you!
