- Henny Youngman, king of the one-liners performs his comic routine on the one hour pilot of Celebrity Cabaret, hosted by Richard R. Hall in 1977. This pilot episode never aired, however the series did become a nationally syndicated half hour show. This episode was shot in the studios of WSNL-TV in Central Islip, Long Island where Mr. Hall was host of "Long Island Tonight with Richard Hall" a live half hour variety show that aired Fridays at 11pm, and later "The Richard Hall Show" a one hour variety show which was syndicated on "The Fourth Network" and TV stations including WBTB channel 68, Newark.
Funny Mr. YOUNGMAN introduced me in one of these episodes. I once was able to see it now it's gone. Would be nice to see it again.
Hey! This was a PILOT EPISODE, fella, and this is the raw, unedited tape! The intro was reshot cuz of the flubs, which happens with professionals, and as is customary, the laughs & applause were appropriately sweetened / enhanced. We're lucky just to have this this tape of Henny!
...I LOVE THIS CROWD!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for uploading this! And thank you for holding on to this for decades and not reusing the videotape! You are a broadcast historian.
He is working hard with this audience.
true....clean comedy....this generation needs this
Henny Youngman, CLASSIC!
a class act-I remember him
This was great! I just talked to Richard Hall this evening and he gave me the link to this page.
Read Henny's biography 'Take My Life, Please.' What a life story. The guy was amazing. He really had it hard when he was young; a real scramble.
I've heard Henny's will read:
To my lawyer Irving I leave nothing, even though I owe him fifty bucks.
Rusty is right! I think this is great comedy, not the crap you get today when every joke is at someone Else's expense. Henny is the top banana in my book, and you can take that to the bank!
wonderful just love it
They don't have comedians lie this any more-what a shame
Steven Wright.
gotta love that Richard Hall Hair "DO" -dude !
and followed by les dawson - the namesake of one of the UK's finest comics!
doc it hurts when i do this
dont do that lmao
The audience would now be in their 70s!
Before there was Rodney, there was Henny. TAKE MY WIFE, PLEASE!
I love his Milton Berle joke
A class act
I've always loved his humor. But this was the first time I ever say him play that fiddle! All these years I'd thought it was only a prop!
Oh that Henny Youngman.! ---Rowan and Martin's Laugh In. . . .
I'm liking that bow tie.
That was in the days when there COMEDIANS about, no longer I am afraid. The UK suffers the same fate.
I was 14 on this night !
The timing of the host was impeccable
Feel the same.
The one and only Henny.
A lot of gentiles probably didn’t get it, but his opening crack to the dweeby host about uprooting a tree in his memory on his next trip to Israel was funny.
The custom is to plant a tree in someone’s memory.
Take my wife, please.
that audience is brutal
it has clean comedy you just have to look for it
by the 70's one liners were losing their appeal? i doubt it .. steven wright came on the scene in the late 70's later to influence mitch hedberg..also milton jones and emo philips
I wonder if Rodney Dangerfield was inspired by Henny.
Henny Youngman before there was a Rodney Dangerfield or Don Rickles!
hes a singer who sings songs......
RODNEY DANGERFIELD got his style from Henny Young man.
"We don't have clean comedy anymore!" You guys do realize at one point, Youngman's jokes would be risque to just plain crude. "Boston Strangler" and "I tried being athiest" would have been EXTREMELY rude and crude 40+ years prior to this. People would be looking to the comedy when THEY were kids as clean, and forgetting THEY had their OWN comedians and musicians who were considered dirty and crude for their time.
Elvis was Crude.
yes it does! if you can't say a joke without "f*ck" in it then you're not a comic, you are just a person on stage trying to tell jokes. comedians can make others laugh by telling funny stories and jokes not berating, using curse words, and jumping around being a fool. it's called stand up comedy not foul mouthed-run around-crapidy. later =oP
@DrVonNostrand im 17 watching it because i saw the guy on goodfellas
@SweetVixen90210 Mitch Hedburg almost had it down, accept he cussed some but other than that, never talked down about anyone.
Yeah, like Capitol Steps, Red Skelton, Victor Borge, etc.
Ya think they shouldda paid me for that too?
I'm glad they got rid of cleavers to be honest.
Huh?
How embarrassing, I used to wear fruity clothes like that guy with red hair has on. (_blush_)
What a dud audience.
no one under 70 is viewing this clip.
No one under 70 cares what you think.
32 hear
not true.
this crowd is not really in to henny are they even a boo and growns
CALL OF THE WILL MAN : I noticed that .... he’s not cursing and swearing so they can’t understand him!
A bunch of recycled jokes. He's told the same stale corny jokes for the last 50 years. I bought an album of his years ago....the same thing.
