I took this class a couple weekends ago. Had never ridden a dirt bike or super moto or ridden on dirt or on a track before. I was probably the slowest/most cautious in the class, but had a great time. Never any pressure to ride beyond what i felt comfortable with. Definitely felt like I was riding better by the end of the class. Likely will go again.
Awesome having you Joe. That's super intentional. You can't learn or have fund when you're stressed, and as we mention in the class, nobody cares how fast you are. Already looking forward to the next time!
It's really a benefit, and an inspiration to get to see the"inside story" about these rider improvement and training courses. Thanks for that! I need to find a supermoto training course in my area.
You probably won’t be able to. This is one of only 2 tracks I can think of in the US that has this. And this is the only one that gives you 20 different bikes to ride. And provides you with riding gear.. Nothing like this were I live in TX. But for the price, i save my airline miles then go fly and ride! There is nothing else like this and always fun. 2 days before Ian’s day here. We rode all day in full rain. No crashes and they let use ride the ttr125 in the mud to try dirt track style sliding. Which I did not even get close to succeeding at. But I got to try! Not going to attempt that on my sv650.. so yeah, there is nothing like this place.
It's true that going too fast isn't going to make you faster and that the key is to find the right lines. However going faster and pushing a little bit does help you figure out the lines as well because it helps you notice when you are off line, giving you instant feedback. No need to go super close to the limit but close enough to at least start sensing where it is is super helpful for learning after you have the super basics down!
I’m so confused on leaning. I’ve been riding since 04 off and in. Started on 600cc race bike. I was always taught to keep bike upright and lean the body now it seems like lean the bike and keep body upright. Is that because I watch adv videos now not sport bikes? Counter leaning works great at slow speeds and in tight areas but on the higher speeds it seems better to lean body.
you are always countersteering whether you realize it or not. Don't worry so much about the pushing the bike down or leaning off. For right now stay nuetral (like pro sm riders) and just do this 1) perfect lines (ride so you can get on the gas) 2) faster transitions via counter steering, 3) smooth 4) early gas. That's a great starting point and you can be insanely fast with just that.
Ian, here is the clip of you on the DRZ when the carb failed before the jump. I was right behind you and the Suzuki has done the exact same thing to me at the track. I knew exactly what happed when I saw it. ruclips.net/video/AcEJNxzM-XI/видео.html
The American way of teaching is so weird. It likes to teach by asking students questions about a topic they don't know anything about and they then just throw out their guesses. I've seen this method applied so many times and I think it's a waste of time. Teach me something first and your point of view on it, then I can digest it and later on ask me questions about it and we can discuss anything that remains unclear.
Except 1) they often know something about it 2) often know the wrong thing about it, and that is an excellent way of getting students engaged. it also informs the instructor or where the students are and what they need.
This is called informal assessment. "The specific purpose of informal assessment is usually to use the information collected in order to set goals, identify intervention strategies, and measure intervention outcomes."
We did the math. a drz with a pro rider is 8 percent slower. A DRZ is literally 92% of a fs450. imho that's not turd material. klx300sm now thats a turd, and I like that bike too :)

Thank you brother! Awesome having you out! I just found the vid and stoked to watch it!!!
You hear a lot of youtubers talk about this course but you actually documented the whole thing. That's awesome!

Supermotos are seriously underrated bikes
Did this just in March. Lots of fun, Brian is laid back but super informative instructor.
Thanks Brother!!
The whole class reminds me a lot of "slow is smooth, smooth is fast". If you get the basics right slow and smooth, that translates into fast later.
Ian's next video "Don't tell my wife, but i bought a DRZ400SM".
Best rule I’ve learned is the bike wants to live so let it. Teaches you to relax, breathe, and let the bike tell you what to do.
Another great thing to learn that will translate really well to all riding is trials!!!!
That was really good. Thanks again for sharing 😊.
Very cool. Definitely going to give it a shot one day.
Well done getting out there and improving your skills in as many ways as possible. 💪🏽
🏍️💨
Do patrons get early access to your videos. I'm still waiting on part 2 of the 2023 ktm 890 adventure video.

How does this have less than 1,000 Likes?! This is amazing content. Thank you for giving us an inside peek into such a great course.
thanks Ian another great video . good advice for sure . cheers steve/ Australia
Great school, went twice. Highly recommend. Ian, good job as always documenting the experience.
Great video!
This is an amazing video Ian. Thank you for documenting your experience. Next time I’m working close to Southern California, I’m doing this.
Great vid. Look ahead is the key.
Supermoto is THE definitive way to learn how to go fast'n'safe.
Thanks for sharing. Amazing content
Funny moment at 13:13- “Right now” dude repeating the instructor. 😅 😎
Excellent video! Great to see so many training options to improve riding skills, got to find this in Texas!
Amazing video. Thanks a bunch.
Been following socal super moto for years. He’s very knowledgeable. Me buying a Drz400 is Brian’s fault.
Great Video Ian, thank you for the awesome content, I need to find something out here.
Fantastic! 👌🏼
The dirt bike design is in my opinion the elemental motorcycle. Great vid thanks for sharing!
Great video. I’m jealous
That looks like it was a ton of fun. 👍🏾
Super moto, super fun
There is no better value in motorcycle training, and it's fun as heck.

timber box
@@abladerunner831 best place to crash is on a racetrack.
Cool! Lover the counter steer slides putting the elbow down on the tar. Hahaha, and see my arse.
Pretty cool
Ian please review moto guzzi v85 TT :)
How would you rate the new published KTM 890 SMT which claimed itself a "long-range supermoto"

I wish I could do this
you could, buy a pitbike and put supermoto tires on ;) people are racing those as well
@@JOA-S awesome point, no need to do the school, any dirtish bike with any streetish tires will get you out there!

trash shows nothing and extremely long video for no realson
DRZs are turds but supermoto is the funnest type of motorcycling!
