Classroom of the Elite SHATTERED My Expectations

- Classroom of the Elite is an anime I went into not really expecting much and I came out after experiencing some of the best anime I've watched recently. I really thought this show would just be a glaze fest for Ayanokoji, but it was so, so much more than that and as I watched more, I began to realize why so many people obsess over this anime. The production might not be the greatest and there may be a lot cut out from the light novels(at least that's what I've seen online), but it still managed to be this good. It's also really neat seeing an anime really take its time in a high school setting and slowly progress through each year. It's not done in an MHA way either where the whole story takes place during year one and the time progression throughout the year and seasons felt really natural and the slow character development throughout those exams reflected that.
Did anyone else think Classroom of the Elite was gonna be a complete dude? if you did, did it ever change your mind or do you still feel that way? Lemme know!

The funniest part is even a mere mention of the anime will have every COTE fan yelling at you to read the light novel.
Just goes to show how bad of an adaptation it is. Anime is just not giving it the amount of love and care this series deserves.
Ln is good but the translation of volume 15 and after were.not official were just bad so it's.not readable after that
Im gonna have to get over how hearing his internal thoughts to that degree, he usually does not think what i would expect solely based on what ive seen from the anime lol
COTE? The anime? Read the Light Novel
@@AVIMANHWA0 Maybe you should've waited for the official translation then bro
I personally like the anime, but if you wanna see the authors genius writing I'd suggest you read the light novels. The characters are so well thought out and the attention to detail there is miles ahead of the anime, which cut many things out of the light novels, including many characters monologues and inner thoughts which I think is one of the best parts of the light novels.
I agree
Novel readewr don't even catgorized both cote anime and novel as the same story anymore due to how aweful it is.

What
Trust me. if you liked the anime, you will be OBSEESED with the light novel. I's just so much detailed and well written.
Yeah but this is generally just the nature of all LN vs Anime. The LN medium just lends itself better to detail oriented writing. To be expected TBH.
@@artOVtrolling yeah it is, however the anime of COTE is so poorly done it doesnt even compare to the LN
@@nycesu gotcha. Bad is a bottomless hole I suppose. COTE is a special kind of bad then, I take it.
@@nycesuYea but if you pretend the light novels don't exist it's a fire anime
@@artOVtrolling I mean the cote anime and cote LN don't even feel like the same stories that's how bad it is done
I remember watching season 1 back when it first dropped. And I liked it.
Season 2, I absolutely LOVED.
Season 3 convinced me to read the Light Novels, and now that Im all caught up, I can safely say, it was THE BEST DECISION I'VE EVER MADE
Can u tell me how many volumes r animated? Or should I read the LN from the start?
@@veal___deal6784 the entire Year 1 series is animated in the span of 3 seasons. If you want a more in-depth experience, you should read the whole light novel, but even if you don't start from the beginning, you won't miss out much.
You can start from Year 2 Vol 1 or Vol 12 overall
@@veal___deal6784 read light novel right from the beginning, because anime cuts out so much that you may find yourself not understanding what's happening. I read it from the beginning and even though I knew what was going to happen, I really enjoyed the read. There is like 2 times more content in LN than in anime
Is the LN finished? And does it go through all the 3 years?
@@alvisebordignon4010 no, it's still ongoing. Year 2 is almost finished though. A couple or so volumes left before Year 3 starts
Just finished reading Year 2 today, there is definitely a lot going on with the characters and the whole dynamic of the school and classes. Even characters that didn't seem as fleshed out in the anime have their relevancy and are, piece by piece, shown to have more going on than meets the eye.
Can't wait for Year 3, whenever that comes around!
0:51 Incredible delivery 👏🏻
Ayanokoji might just be my favourite anime character ever, everything he does is just cold af
the anime is genuinely great but if you want the full experience, i suggest reading the light novels from the beginning, since it adds so much more depth into other characters and ayanokojis goals and motives
The "elite" concept is to graduate from class A, ensuring that students have their individual and collective skills worked on so that they can be well explored in the real world. And about entering the school... it is merely a formality, as there is a whole research process when students send in their applications.
Tbh I loved the first season. I didn't have any doubts about it being bad. I actually thought it was gonna be good but not my favorite. It broke expectations. Season 3 especially. Great wnimation, great battles, peak emotions, peak Ayanokoji always looking colder than the artic.
i need to start reading the LN. just finished s3 and I don't think I can wait anymore. I'm worried I'll fall in the LN rabbit hole and get addicted
Jus finished s3 and idk where to go to read the LN😭😭
@@Mindbetter_ you can find light novel in jnovel
1:56 everyone think that way, but the depth into it makes it so reasonable
I really like the anime. I tried reading the novel because everyone said it was so much better, and honestly, I could not get behind it. I'm not trying to say it was bad or anything. But I kind of really like how the mc is portrayed in the anime, so reading him as much more emotive, and also appearing a bit less cunning/psycho, It just didn't seem like the same story.
And again, the novel might be better, I tried reading it because I wanted more of anime-Ayanokoji, so I didn't give it an honest chance when I didn't instantly enjoy the novel-Ayanokoji.
It is definitely a glazefest of ayanokoji 😂
I know everybody says this but , if you TRULY want to see how many amazing characters with detailed backstories and motives the show has go and read the LN.
And even besides all those entertaining characters Ayanokoji is still the best , for god's sake this guy lies to himself in his own monolouges most of the time which are barely shown in the anime.
If you really want to enjoy this masterpiece i would reccomend reading the LN as it is a 10/10
Wow so unique
Shame that people dismiss this anime as a generic one with an Edgy antisocial MC who gets all the girls...Wait a minute....
Kinda is that 🤣

The school is actually an short picture of whole human in world ( world doesn't consist of just smart or leaders or strong person, it contains variety of them )
The end of season 1-season 3 is when classroom of the elite got good to me, since i never got spoiled i was so close to dropping the anime in season 1 because it was fan servicey and very boring for me. After i finished season 1 and started season 2 i got hooked (especially the part when our goated mc 1v4ed ryuen and his followers💀)
Im convinced to tackle this anime again. First watch through I dropped at the island arc, but I'm convinced now.
I watched all three seasons in the past few weeks and it genuinely surprised me how intelligent the writing is. Even with limited runtime in the anime, it gets across that all these students are deeper than they seem, and the sheer amount of students that are actual characters because of it instead of being blank background filler. This series thrives on the way it develops characters through hardship and adversity, and it shows with how every hurdle is another person's time to grow past their problems. Ayanokoji is involved with it pretty much all the way through, and it showcases just how brilliant he is, as well as how he outmaneuvers his competition. As you said, it wouldn't be particularly interesting if he was just doing it because he's better, but his background and how his hand is constantly being forced when he just wants to have some time in a "normal" life. The author also avoids hitting the harem genre with this one, as it's pretty damn clear there's at least 3 or 4 girls that have their eyes on him for a relationship, and the way this is skirted is just how Ayanokoji is genuinely a heartless person that builds connections and bonds for the sole purpose of exploiting them to push his agenda and get what he wants or needs. He doesn't really know what "love" feels like (relatable) and doesn't really have the desire to know.
And that's as far as I've gathered in the 3 aired seasons. I know this is one that people suggest reading the LN for (I'm sure it's amazing, I read LNs myself) but I feel like anime only is probably a more than acceptable way of consuming this work. Missing out on the thoughts of other characters and extended pasts is certainly not something to dismiss, but the way the show characterizes the cast and the expressions and body language shown off almost always portray what kind of things are going through everyone's heads (except Ayanokoji, Mr. stone face himself). I probably won't be reading it anytime soon, but that's mostly because I have a long backlog right now for LNs...
I am glad you enjoyed the anime and I know you have heard this a lot of times but as a LN reader the anime is subpar at best if you really wanna see the genius writing I definitely recommend reading the LN as the anime doesn't do it justice at all
The fact you think koji doesn’t desire to know what love is, is enough reason for you to read the light novel
i'm so glad that i cote was one of my firs LNs causa my backlog is crazy rn and it doesn't help that i keep adding to it lol

when they announced a season 2 and 3 with the same team behind season 1. a lot of people where kinda shocked, since season changed a lot from the light novel, and if i remember corectly the author was not happy with the changes (same thing happend with High School DxD season 3, that is why season 4 of that show was at a new studio and a new team)

I began reading the LN when S3 was airing. it's so fucking good. Everyone says to go from the start and I reccomend that aswell but you can start from Volume 4 (when S2 starts) as season 1 is adapted decently enough but still lots of missing content but nothing compared from when Season 2 starts. (Don't forget about the .5 volumes)
I'd say go from the start because there are funny moments you won't catch otherwise like Ayanakoji trying to be a comedy character at first

What about the manga? Is it good?

Ayanokiji is probably my 2nd favorite main character in anime, the only reason they don't surpass my no.1 (rimuru tempest) is because his design is honestly kinda boring (but that makes sense I guess lol)

Exactly the same thoughts on it. Haven't read the light novel but it's the 2nd highest rated light novel of ALL TIME on MAL, so it has to be good. I'm thinking about reading it but I haven't read a single LN ever, so it might be a little complicated.
Hey just saw the LN its awesome but I find it difficult to only read without any pictures🤕
the novel, if you think about it and read about it enough, will show that Koji wants to defeat his own mindset of seeing everybody as a tool by him losing.
But I shall not leak it all, you should find it out.
He doesn't want to be defeated, at the start of Volume 0, he was mediocre at almost everything, leading to numerous losses. However, with each loss, he improves significantly, eventually emerging as the top student at WR.
@@___Manish___ he occasionally mentions wanting to study and learn about emotions and situations he couldn’t in the white room and yes you could interpret this as him trying to fully adapt into society while remaining a largely emotionless calculated manipulator but when u add in a couple scenes with a particular character in the light novels I do feel he wants to make build everyone up to see if he can learn from them and ultimately be defeated ultimately just my theory
"The moment Ichinose goes down, I will be there... to deliver the final blow." - Goattaka Ayanokoji.
I'm rewatching season 1 in Japanese and the hint dropping is so much better in the OG. It doesn't even compare. Like the blind spot where Ryuen lapdogs tried to bait Sudo to beat them so they could put a complaint on his behind, and later Ayanokoji manipulated Suzune to install a fake camera and make the attackers withdraw the complaints. In JP it's so much clearer that Ryuen was doing it to test the school system and their type of answers to violence claims while eliminating and crippling a rival class. But in English it's like going so fast and there is so much emphasis on Ayanokoji hinting at the lack of cameras in that spot...in JP he drops it really naturally that it's not perseptible. The only way to realize it was really to have Chabashira tell Suzune that Ayanokoji is good at manipulation, which they are both the best characters to have that discussion because Chabashira is a good manipulator and Suzune really hates being used, so You can see that Chabashira was using Suzune more than she was helping her. In English it's more like a wake up call from Chabashira...
“Is it this the one of the hardest school in Japan to get in to?” That’s because that’s phrase is a lie. As far as I know entrance exam and interviews for this school is just a cover up that the school chooses the students they pick to enter the institution. Basically even you’re the smartest person in the country that doesn’t necessarily mean you have a qualification to enter.
AK is cooking. ALWAYS.
I like the anime when S2 was airing enough to go ahead with the LN. I now do not like anime but I'll still watch future seasons (if there will be a continuation).

The thing that I thought was crazy was that you have to remember that these are school kids 😂

I’m sure that so many people are saying the same thing but if you liked the anime you will love the LNs. I used to like that anime but after reading the novels, I can’t even watch it anymore because I think it is just garbage in comparison. The Anime is kinda MID if not just bad compared to the Light Novel.
The light novel is genuinely one of the best LN I have read ever
I liked the show and the novels but the concept of Kyotaka's up bringing is a bit hard to accept when you know this kind of stuff has been tried and the kids are completely fked up and have zero emotional intelligence.
anime is meh imo, but it got me intrigued and helped me enter the world of cote light novels… haven’t once regretted picking up the LN, a few boring volumes for sure but over 90% of the LN are fantastically made.
Hands down one of the best highschool light novel, COTE is a masterpeice in a genre that's saturated with dumb, cringe, way too basic and too much self insert works. The light novel is easy Deathnote level if not better.
If you don't want the fan service and the mystery, please try out the LN it is FAR more superior.
Please, just please read the LN. If you loved the anime this much, LN will definitely become your favorite
The Light Novel shits on the anime so hard it literally feels like a completely different show because they skipped 80% lmao
the anime is definitely good but it does skip alot of stuff like character development from the LN
anime ayanokoji is third best... out of four. Ln ayanokoji>2 year's manga>anime>1 year's manga. change my mind
Read the novel. The anime is an extremely waterd down version of the story and characters, believe me.
bruh... what am I even watching???
This hot take is bouta be unpopular. Also quick note this is a really long comment so figured i would quickly summarize it. Light novel struggles with pacing, ayanokoji in the anine is sometimes better in my opinion, and its animated. For more detailed explanations read the whole comment.
The anime is better than the light novel. For starters pacing in my opinion can be an issue in the light novel. Detail is a good thing but sometime the light novel can go a little too far with it. Say what you want about how you camt have too much detail but it can be boring to read the 3rd page of just blabbering on about something people are gonna forget about immediately. An example of this is when they are explaining the rules of the uninhabited island exam in year 2. They put too much detail into how the game works. I understand that in story it makes sense but for the readers it ended up just being countless pages of boring and forgettable information. I think it would have been better if it was simply explained that one day they were told the rules and the key rules were highlighted while the other minor details just came naturally. Another argument i hear a lot is that the light novel is better because the anime doesnt correctly capture how ayanokoji acts. I personally disagree with this. In the light novel, manga, and anime ayanokoji acts different. Its simply just a different approach to the character. Other characters are still protrayed about the same in all of them however ayanokoji changes a lot. This isnt neccesarily a bad thing. I actually personally like the anime's way of capturing ayanokoji a bit more. This is because ayanokoji is much more emotional in the light novel. This wouldnt be a bad thing if it wasnt for the fact that ayanokoji comes from the white room. On the island in year 2 ayanokoji loses to sudo in an anime quiz. Thats because he wasnt exactly doing education on anime in the white room. You could also apply that idea to his emotions. He was never taught to feel emotion or what it should be like so instead it comes off unnatural for ayanokoji as he was never taught it. Because of this ayanokoji comes off more cold hearted as he doesnt really have the same emotions. Or atleast in the anime that happens. In the light novel he acts very similarly to a regular person when it comes to emotion and conversation. He also tends to say he would lose to people which just doesnt feel right. Hes supposed to be the perfect human being. But instead he just feels like the average ivy league student. Sure hes really good but hes nowhere near the best. Last but not least theres the obvious reason of its animated. Some scenes are just better animated like fight scenes. Because of this no matter how hard the light novel tries to make for example fight scenes better they just fall short compared to the anime counterpart.
It wouldnt be so horse shit is they didnt cut a ton of content and change shit to fix the plot holes they created by removing content
THE LN IS PEAK x100 better
season 1 was good, 2 was good but 3 was kinda slow and uninteresting tho imo. LN is peak

Bro did you complete light novel??? .
If u like the anime you would LOVE the light novel the anime skipped alot so if i were u start at volume 4 start of season 1 of year 1
The version of this you watched was an extremely watered down version of what the author created.
I recommend you read the LN and make a video then
I'm surprised season 1 might be your least fav because it has better animation than the 3, season 2 has a lot of cuts (because they're the weakest in the LN too) while season 3 should be the best arc of year 1 yet season 3 did a lot of cuts as well and def has worse animation than season 1 too.
I hope they up the budget for year 2 (season 4 onwards) because it's definitely a loottt better than everything in year 1, Kiyotaka finally started revealing his cards and from time to time is working not just in the shadows anymore.
dunno man its pretty mid imo.
whole series is just ayanokoji chilling and at some random moment its like ''yeah bro i just solved it lol'' with nothing interesting abt it
i am sure its better in LN though
I must admit, being up to date with the ln I'm not the biggest fan of the direction it's going, I think it has become too much of a generic harem/rimance story
top 3 worst adaptations of potential for a LN
Bro actually in the light novel he is not that wood plank man instead he shows emotions and much detailed than the anime ı think you must read the light novel and see the real thing.
