Recently, I've noticed that when transitioning to the low end, the lower notes don't speak clearly and it seems like air is escaping in the sound. It feels as though my embouchure remains tight from playing in the upper register and doesn't relax sufficiently when I switch. Any good exercises that would help?

Keeping your corners firm and forward is essential! Then I like to imagine my lower lip/jaw sliding forward like a drawer.
You can practice this just making an embouchure and blowing, then on the horn using the harmonic series. I like to start with middle C to G below, then add the low C when that is feeling good.
