Its kind of amazing to me how much the vocal effects on Scorched's voice change the vibe of the song. With him, it sounds frantic, violent and emotional with a tragic tone to the end But without him it feels cold and more traditionally oppressive, with a hint of a light at the end of the tunnel.
It's kind of shocking that so much of the song's initial identity as "desperate rage" comes from specifically the distortion on Scorched's vocals. Without them it sounds fully tragic rather than being aggressive then dipping into tragedy near the end.
