I was diagnosed with ITP in April 2021 (it is now June 2023). In January 2021 I was pregnant for the first time and I lost my baby after 10 weeks. Three months later I caught a cold and could not get better, then started getting bruising all over and my doctor checked my platelets. They were at 3k. I got treat with IVIG, it worked, and I was sent home with 75mg of prednisone to take daily. It drove me insane. I couldn’t sleep, I had lots of pressure in my head, I was moody and depressed. I had mental psychosis on prednisone. My platelets got better and I would get off the steroids, but then would drop as soon as I would get sick with allergies, cold, flu or anything and would have to start again with the steroids. It was awful. My specialist to this day states she didn’t advise me it was okay to get pregnant again but she did tell me it would just mean more monitoring and that it would be fine. It was not fine. She didn’t tell me that I could pass on the platelet killing cells to my baby. I got pregnant in 2022 , I was doing okay until 37 weeks, and I had to get a C-section. My baby’s platelets kept dropping for days until it got to 17k and then they gave her IVIG therapy too. She is now a year old and she is doing well. So far so good. As for myself, 6 months after postpartum my specialists finally put me on promacta 50 mg and it worked! I have gone down to 25mg now and I’ve gotten sick with a cold 4 times now without any bruising or bleeding. I am doing amazing. I pray to God that I won’t need medication at all one day but I am also so grateful that something worked for me. Sending much hope to anyone that is dealing with ITP today.
AOA. Hakeem sb. My baby boy suffering from low platelet issue since 22-03-2023 when so many red spots and purple spots were observed over his different body parts. We immediately consulted CMH Lahore doctor n he said it's ITP. Immune thrombocytopenia purpura. He immediately suggested urgent CBC where his platelets were found 7000-8000 with low neutraphil high lymphocytes and low Hb at 8.4. doctor then recommended steron syrup twice a day along with ulsanic syrup. After 2 weeks usage he changed the medicine from syrup to prednisolone tablets with dosage 2 + 2 till 9th may of may. CBC test was carried out regularly. Report of 24th may showed platelets 66000. Doctor and we all were satisfied. Now after gap of one month, red spots started again and conducted CBC again where platelets were 25000 with Hb 9 neutraphills and lymphocytes are quite ok. Agreed! I've recently been dx with this condition. I already have NO trust in medical/pharma after the BS of the last 3 years. The options given to me included all of the above. I dutifully wrote them all down as he was explaining each to me. I already knew I wasn't going for it. Went home and researched further. Next week when I got my blood test back he called again. My mom is on the iv she’s been on it for 5 days now she was feeling good until they started her on that ivig when they first gave it to her she had very bad shakes couldn’t even talk her levels have not went up they actually dropped They are down to 19 now The doctors continue to give her that IV and I really think it’s doing more harm than good she went to the hospital because she was throwing up blood and it was in her stool she had multiple transfusions her platelet count just isn’t going up they don’t want to give her the steroids because they don’t want to cause bleeding but in this case what else can we do. Dapsone is an antibiotics for treatment of leprosy. It causes hemolysis inducing erythrophagocytosis by RES in the spleen. The mechanism is similar to the anti-D globulin. It’s no highly effective. The effect doesn’t last long. It can cause serious side effects with severe hemolysis when patients have G6PD deficiency. Now it’s much less used for treatment of ITP.

If a patient has a splenule can that cause a reoccurrence of ITP? Splenectomy and then 12 years later itp is back
Yes, it is possible. However, before removing he splenule, please consider trying other non-surgical treatments first.
