@@nativeterramining621 wow...thank you very much for the quick reply!! I got into hounding in the Wells area in California but live in texas. So I've been dying to get out and get my hands dirty. Thanks for the info and I'll let you know if I happen to find something worth mentioning
My father worked for the electric company here in Texas or 33 and a half years. Back then it was called TP &L. He found and I remember him taking us out to an entire piece of land covered in petrified wood. It must have been a forest at one time. It was so much of it you had trouble not stepping on it as you went. I believe it's private property now.
And it was possibly next to my property that I live on now. The property was part of a cattle ranch and you couldn't not even step without tripping on a petrified rock and yes were served by TP & L back then. When the ranch was sold and broke up into small lots the place was bulldozed and I guess the petrified rock was collected before the dozing. Wish I had pictures, but back then we took it all for granted us kids played with them and never thought a thing about it being so special of a place.
There’s a lot of areas out in Buchanan Dam and Kingsland localities, Hoover valley too, that whole area. That are filled with petrified wood like that. It’s when the big droughts hit and the lake/river beds are exposed. You can find whole thick ass petrified tree stumps all over like damned grass. I had a huge collection

I'm from tx and never knew the state had so many mineral deposits around until I watched his vlog. I enjoy looking for rocks and now I know where to hunt for them
Ok...native Texan here. If you come down and want to search the Llano River, don't call it the Yano as some "experts" are saying. It is of course a Spanish word but it's pronounced Lano, just ignore all the "proper" instructions. Oh and Welcome to Texas...have fun
Good ole Texas. As you mentioned though, much of Texas land is privately owned....and Texans takes trespassing serious. So for sure do your research. The only Gold mine I know of in Texas is on a private ranch down around Presidio. I was actually given a ride around the property and saw the old mine. This was back when gold was $800oz and climbing. The owner didn't have any interest in reopening the mine then and could careless about it now. Such a beautiful piece of land as well.
Rick Davis I really have no clue friend, all I know is McAllister Park is chock-full of that stuff, and along the banks of a few rivers like the Uvalde have some fossils.
Just FYI, Llano is pronounced Yawno (the L's are silent or pronounced as a Y.) The word is Spanish. It's commonly mispronounced by people north of Waco so don't feel bad. 😊
I guess Llano county is north of Waco, because everyone there pronounces aa an "L", not "Y". I have live in Texas all but 3 yeas of my life, and I have NEVER heard anyone pronounce the "LL" as a "Y". I bet you live in central Texas. Most people don't count my part of Texas as Texas. For when they say west Texas, it hundreds of miles to the east. Btw amethyst can be found in real west Texas. But it's on private land. For $100,000 I will sell someone 10 acres with acces to the mountains it's found in. Must have vehical with ground clearance, lots of tires and lots of fuel, to get from the 10 acres to the mountains. From highway to property can be done with a car, less then 1 mile. From property to mountains is approx 40 miles by very rough road. Fuel is 80 miles away 24/7, and 30 miles away Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm Sat 9am to noon. Again it's private property.
