Some of the capacitors in the ECU (engine control unit or the car's computer) were known to leak causing all sorts of issues. Did you ever get yours fixed? There are people on eBay who will fix this for you but you have to take it out and send it to them. Not exactly easy, I've done it twice after the first clowns didn't do it right.
Hi Robert cook I have the same 93 Lexus, Do u remember the online site that rebuilt your ECU? I'm having the same problems.. thanks hopefully this message gets to you.. I just do want to send mine out to a place to RIP me off.. thanks ...
Love how people tell you what the fix is without actually being there! Had same issue with my 96 ls 400 my codes were 6,4,and 3 misfire.... Changed fuel pump, plugs and wires, coil packs, mass air flow sensor, this was done by 3 different shops....My next try will be fuel pressure regulator, so I feel ur pain for sure...
go to eBay. there should be a guy in new Jersey or PA that will rebuild it for $70. your ecu will fit into a USPS priority mail envelope. easy. just eBay ls400 ecu rebuild
Man I sent my ecm to ECUREPAIR on Ebay they sent mine back saying it was corrosion...sent another ecm to auto computer solutions on ebay and now my catalytic converters are glowing red....do you have a link to the guy who fixed yours please
@@pushhrodd01 I sent the ecu to ECUREPAIR on ebay car ran good for 5 minutes then my catalytic converters were glowing red...they said the ecu has nothing to do with the catalytic converters glowing like the sun
it's easy reading codes with a piece of wire and counting the lights. just google how to read them. and sounds like a spark problem get the covers off the dizzy/cam belt and see if one rotor button has moved forward.
I have the same issue , I have checked my ECU, [LS400 1996] and nothing wrong with it. I highly recommend to diagnose the engine (u can search on yt how to diagnose an ls400 ) and my issue was both o2 sensors failure . I didn’t get to replace them but that’s seems to be the issue as I found an exhaust leak right before the o2 sensors . Ps. I’ve replaced the fuel pressure regulator and is still the same. I have to replace now the o2 sensors and the exhaust leak. I’ll be back with a comment here once evertongin in on 😊
There is no OBD1 scanner. There is a jumper wire under the dash that you ground, and it makes the CEL flash. Short Flash = 1 Long Flash = 10 You add the numbers after a pause and that's your code.
Yes there is - I have one. Did you actually think that big connector under the dash with all those pins and very particular shape is there just because? Jumping those two terminals in the OBD1 CONNECTOR is the way to get info WITHOUT the scanner. Let me guess ... born after 1990?
@RobertSmith-js2kz since u want to be a smartass, any electrical device that relays info is technically a computer. A calculator is a computer.. which has 1 function and 1 function only. My car is obd 0 on and obd1 harness running off an obd2 ecu so dont try and tell me an obd1 scanner isnt a computer
I had the same problem, it was one of the coil packs. you have two, one in the front of the engine and one on the drivers side by the valve cover. Hope this helps other with this problem.
Its one of your sparkplugs or fulepump if you put bad gas you need to add a lot more premium other gas to breakdown the bad gas that you have in there and if it clears up you know what the problem is
My LS did the same thing, my cluster also started staying at 0 until i drove down the block and jumped to my speed. Realizing the cluster was bad and my constant misfires. I had everything esle checked and it was my ecu. Check your ecu guys. There are ALOT of complaints about it. look up club lexus discussions about it.
Having this problem now with my ls400 lexus, mines stalls while driving with the low rpms but if high speeds runs fine after a few stalls & recranking soon after the stall i finally made it home now it want start but it cranks tomorrow my 25 birthday yayyyyy way to bring it in
I just bought one yesterday and I had the low idle problem as well I checked over the lines in the PCV line on the driver side of the motor was plugged and cracked after I replaced it the idle went back to normal but mine misfires as well still trying to figure that out
@@jdm_obsession unfortunately I cant be as much help on pre obd2 cars. Are your misfires totally random? Have you been able to isolate the misfires to the left or right bank? Regardless, I would definitely recommend ruling out a vacuum leak before replacing parts. If you have access to an air compressor you can make your own smoke-tester with parts from a hardware store for less than 20bucks. It's easy and works as well as a professional setup. I've had a 96 and 2000 and the gasket between the master cylinder and brake booster is somewhat know to deteriorate with age. A leak here will cause low vacuum that can lead to random misfire and anomaly codes like trac-control. On 96+ cars you can use fuel trim data to diagnose the actual issue for misfires. If you are interested in making a smoke tester there are RUclips videos to help with that.
Hi I'm am having the same issue with my ls400 when I cruise around town or to work it's fine but when I do need to put a little pep in my step for ex: entering freeways/main streets my car tends to choke as such any help on what the issue is or was very much appreciated!!! 😊
Hey man, I see your comment was 6 years ago. Those symptoms are exactly what’s up with my LS400. What was the problem in our case? Any help be greatly appreciated.
My advice: Never, ever, go back to any of these "Mechanics" again. Incompetent, morons that do not have an OBD I scanner? All you need is a paper clip. Besides that, start with the basics. Seriously doubt its anything internal engine related.
To be fair, OBD1 scanners are make based and can be expensive to get all of them. Plus they might rarely use them. So I wouldn’t really hate on a mechanic for not having the scanner. At least they said they couldn’t work on it right away and didn’t waste time. Unlike the first guy he went to.
